  1. From what I've been told there's a lot that goes into a "proper press". There's nothing "quick" about a proper pressing. I don't know everything involved, but I know humidifying the comic before the press is part of the process (and other parts of the process are simply "trade secrets" that take years of experience to learn). I also know that each of the different eras of comics (Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc...) require different methods (temp & time in the press). I may be wrong but I believe a quick press is only a quick heatpress with no humidifying. After cooling down the paper fibers will want to revert to their pre-pressed state. I can only say that the comics I have had "quick pressed", seem to look exactly the same when I get them back. Whereas the comics that have been properly pressed look really good. This is all my Opinion, maybe others have had big success with the quick press. I just think if you're pressing looking for a bump in grade, just pay the extra money and have it done right.
  2. I was thinking 4.5-5.0 myself. But it'll present like a 6.0-6.5 which is nice
  3. Really nice looking copy. Flat, glossy. Has 1 major flaw, a 1-1/2" spine split at the bottom. Inside pages are tight and gorgeous. It's also not pressed but has a few spine dimples that could be pressed out. The red mark at bottom of back cover is overspray from the distributor.
  4. Normal Rules No HOS or Probies US Destinations only Shipped USPS priority. You pay $6.50 for raw & $14 for slabbed (I will combine shipping for multiple purchases) PayPal or MO for sales under $1000. Personal checks, or USPS MOs for total sales $1000 or higher. 1st in the thread wins it and beats any PM'd deals. No return on slabbed comics. Raw comics can be returned within 2 weeks (in the condition that I sent them). You pay shipping on returns.
  5. CCS does a great job on their pressing (although the "quick press" is a bad idea IMO). And it seems like CCS would always be the way to go because they are part of CGC, but because of the long wait I'm not sure I'm going to go that route anymore. Time to explore some of the other pressers. Joeypost has done some for me. He's top notch.
  6. Bought a couple of L B Cole comics from Gene. Comics were packed well and were in the condition described. I will buy from him again.
  7. My Value Submissions from 11/28 are still sitting as "Verified". I'm thinking...... maybe 2-1/2 more weeks, but I'm hoping sooner.
  8. I never knew the cover from Science Comics 2 was stolen from this one. Cool
  9. When a comic is this low grade, the cover can be tenuous at the staples resulting in jostling from the original positioning. (that sentence used words I very rarely use) I wouldn't over think the overhang in a comic that is this low grade.
  10. Send it in for grading only if you're ready to sell. Slabbing will always increase the sales potential. A buyer might look at this raw with lots of questions. Slabbing will take those questions away. If you just want to keep it in your collection then just keep it raw right now. If you decide to grade, you might want to press those ripples out. I own 2 graded copies of AF15 (4.0 & 7.0), and I own 3 super low grade copies that I keep raw (all 1.0s or lower)
  11. I am in total agreement about sending to CCS for evaluation. Don't just send it in for grading when there is a good chance for grade improvement (even a half grade point improvement is HUGE on this book).. Always hard to tell from photos but, I see 2 or 3 tiny dimples along the front spine that look like they could be removed with a pro pressing, and multiple small dimples along the back spine that, along with a dry cleaning will really improve the spine area. The rest of the front cover looks really nice to my eye. The spine/staple area looks strong to my eye to handle a press, but as a previous poster suggested, there is a long "pre-Marvel chip" that could dislodge with a press so that would be a concern that CCS or someone like Joeypost should give their expert opinion if a press is advisable. I'm very excited for the OP and can't wait to hear what the eventual grade of this comic is.
  12. Opening bid was probably the high end of the estimate
  13. I think a press might take that to a 5.5, I'm not sure a 6.0 in in range but who knows. That whole collection was gorgeous! What auction house was that?
  14. I was very interested, just didn't have a chance to post yet. That worked out to about what?..... $23,700 US? I think the winner got a great comic. Looks like a 5.0 or so. In fact that whole collection was gorgeous. Did you win any of them? I wish I would have known about the auction.
  15. That's a GREAT looking AF15. What do you think it grades 5.0? I think the winner got a great price!
  16. Dark Knight, that's cool to add your's for comparison. Maybe it's just that tbshay's photo is better, but except for the MC, I actually think his might be slightly higher in grade. The color strike is amazing.
  17. Yours is much more attractive. I wonder if all the white marks on the other photo are just reflections? If so, they should have taken more care with the photo.
