Has a tiny piece out at the top & bottom of the spine (might be considered a bindery defect?) Cool stamp on back cover

I'm glad you found them but, .... Shhhh..... don't tell anyone so we can find more before they explode in price even more. Truthfully, the whole "variant" market has gone crazy. I saw that a 9.8 newstand copy of Xmen 129 just sold for $13,250 which is about $7000 MORE than the direct market version. Newstand copies aren't nearly as rare as Pence copies. The Newstand premium seems to be on super high grade copies like 9.6 - 9.8. Since they got beat up more being in regular stores the thought is that finding super high grade copies is nearly impossible. I'll tell you what is nearly impossible........ finding high grade Pence.

X-Men 129 9.8 ... a $13,250 comic? Huh?

I'm guessing the line thru the UPC code means mine is a Direct. Bummer. But if I take white-out to the diagonal line...... -

$7000 extra for Newstand? I've got a 9.8 but I don't remember if it's newstand. -
I thought this one was fun. Star Spangled Comics 1. It's not a SA comic, but I love the "JC Penny Shoe Repair" stamp. Imagine...... Walking in to get your shoes repaired, and there's a copy of SSC1 sitting on a pile of magazines.

Too be truthful, it's the 1st appearance of Emma Frost too and she's become a pretty important character in the x-universe. Also 1st Sebastian Shaw. I just looked on ebay and someone has a X129 9.8 listed at $20,200. Also, there is a 9.8 listed at $8999...... so why would you buy one for $13250 on CL??? Someone is trying to artificially inflate prices. I think we will find out that the $13250 never went thru. -

Imagine being that seller on Heritage thinking you were going to cash in, getting your hopes up for at least a $10k sale, and then the crash & burn. Likewise the Heritage buyer must think they got the deal of the century. -
Some other comics of note that I have found in the pile: Star Spangled Comics 1 Wonderworld 6 & 9 Human Torch 6 Captain America 17 Blue Beetle 10 Amazing Man 18 Flash 54 Weird Comics 10 Leading Comics 4 Samson 6 Mystery Men 29 Star Spangled 34 Daredevil 24 Feature 42 National Comics 32 Military 17 Blue Bolt 109

I was just watching a ComicTom youtube video and he said there was a new record price for Xmen 129 in 9.8.... $13,250. Anyone know if that's true???? That $ could buy you a 2.5 X-Men 1. I'll take the #1

I can't imagine being a comic seller and not fully going thru a lot like this. The comic's ages ranged from 1937 - 1947. It's such a sweet spot in time for grails. The Adventure 40 I found could just as easily have been an Action 1. In fact, when I first started paging thru it I thought it might be an early Action because of the black & white pages on a couple stories.

I 100% agree. Also.... I find it fun and challenging to piece together some rare comics. I don't have the funds to buy slabbed mega keys, so if I can piece together a mega key by buying an incomplete copy and then looking thru auctions like this for CFs or outerwraps. I have pieced together complete copies of Superman 1, Cap 1, All Star 8, using this method.

Yeah... there's definitely risk involved, but knowing most of an Action 15 was in there and a Superman 2 helped. I was right at my price limit on this one, but examining some of the photos I really thought there might be something good mixed in. Picking up auctions like this is how I found a Superman 1 page 1 origin page, a complete coverless Superman 2 (from a different auction), a Suspense 3, and an All Star 8.
