Value of UK price variant SA grails
gadzukes replied to drmanhattanite's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Great post Pantodude. You did some solid analysis. I'm hoping the "respect" trend continues. And I love the sound of "premium pricing". -
So, Why Has AF #15 Continued to Drop In Value?
gadzukes replied to KEY ISSUES Comics's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I think we're going to see an explosion of single pages being slabbed now on these Marvel Keys. That will be the only way some collectors will be able to have a piece of a Key. Might be a good time to invest in the Golden Record reprints? -

Piper, prepare to have your mind blown if you haven't updated values within the last 2 months. And then.... once you're finished, consider that your collection is probably worth WAY more because GPA doesn't include all of the data (and there's been a lot of new data the last 2 months). My collection increased by about $150k in the last 6 weeks. -

Including the 4.0 that just sold for $44,500. That's a major difference from the $35,850 it shows as the last sale. -

Wait until tomorrow, cuz you'll have to redo the whole thing again. -

Sell? But..... but..... but..... these comics are...... my precious. Seriously though..... I am selling a few things. I sold a restored FF1 4.5 & an Xmen 1 .5 last week, but maybe it's time to pull out a big book. Not my AF 15 though. -

Yeah...... it's making me nervous. Like the rug is going to be pulled out from under us any day now. -

I'm out of work right now because of the pandemic (I'm an entertainer and have been hit hard), and yet my collection's value has probably increased by at least $150k over the last month (I too own an AF15 4.0, so this $44,500 price just made my jaw hit the floor. I bought my 4.0 as a raw copy 3 years ago for $12,000) -

If it was just a one-off on a few comics in one month that would be one thing, but we are seeing a sustained massive almost exponential growth over just about every Marvel Key issue (trickling down into lesser keys). New records are being made weekly (almost daily) in multiple grades over multiple Keys. -

Is there really this much disposable income out there? Fun fact..... you could get an AF15 7.0 for this price just 5 years ago. -

Was that a CL auction? -
Oh yeah???? Well your sub sub-basement is like a penthouse compared to the pit where I pulled this one. Truthfully..... I just sold this one last week. Basically coverless, no CF, half of last page missing, and lots-o-stains rips and creases on every single page, but... in this new X-Men 1 world we find ourselves in I was able to get over $1000 cash for it. Have you ever seen a worse copy? Buyer was happy though, so was I. Who knows..... maybe in a month it'll sell for $2k
-
Yes, the coloring in the waves is really handled well. Interesting cover. And nice high grade, congrats Albert

I always thought it would be cool to own this, but when I see them they seem to be outrageously overpriced. Found these two at a pretty good price. I like how it says "Superman carries the boat (or plane) when his hand is placed in the slit in the bottom." Um..... Superman and the boat (or plane) are not proportionate with each other. Weird. These pages turned out to be larger than I thought they would be. I had a thought to send them in for slabbing.

Silver age comics that are heating up
gadzukes replied to rabidwolf's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Yes. They are listed on the label. Enough collectors look for them that they usually bring a premium price when selling. The inserts were always at the center of the comic and all the ones I've ever encountered were made out of a card stock material so they are easy to detect when you hold and flip thru a comic, it'll feel stiffer. -

Qualified means limited in some way. A qualified comic is sometimes missing a page or has a coupon clipped, or the CF is detached. A really common qualification is Hulk 181 with the MVS "marvel value stamp" clipped out. Technically, the comic should be graded as an.5 incomplete, but if it is an 8.0 in every other way, CGC would give it an 8.0 Green Qualified label (and you would cry because of the clipped MVS) In general Green Q comics are valued the same as maybe a slightly resto'd comic. -

"Qualified" An ASM 1 that was a 5.0 in every way except it had a coupon clippoed, would get a Green "Qualified" label. And on the label it would state what the "qualification" was.
