  1. :o $5500? You can get a padded chair at Boscov's for $55

:insane: True, and you're probably thinking that I can get a padded cell for nothing, but it will probably cost you $500 more to have that Boscov's chair hailed to the dump several weeks after the purchase, ...provided it lasts that long. ;)

A bit out of my price range though

hm Let's see, ...Eames chair or comic ...Eames chair or comic ...Eames chair or comic

C'mon Bill, an Eames lounge chair isn't much more than one of our beloved 10c comics! :baiting:

  2. OK, maybe I am just seeing things, but I have read a lot of Plastic Man stories and I know that Jack Cole had a clever sense of humour. On the second page of the Comet story that was posted here earlier, there is a moving truck shown. Is that a dirty word on the side of the truck? Did Mr. Cole slip one in there? Maybe I am wrong, but it sure looks like it.

hm - :o - :roflmao: I think you have a keen eye, son!

  3. Thanks guys. I will keep the faith. :cloud9:

Beautiful collection, Bill, ...and kidding aside, very nice couch too. (thumbs u

What you need now is an authentic Eame's chair for the ultimate in personal relaxation while reading those FUN puppies (trust me on this). :cloud9:

Thanks David. It's a sleeper sofa too for geeks that need a place, near comics, to crash.

Which Eame's chair do you recommend?

Sorry it's taken me this long to respond but I've been away most of the day.

I recommend the Santos Palisander finish with with black italian leather (this one is like the one I purchased from Design Within Reach in Dallas and had it shipped; but here is the Amazon description)

    http://www.amazon.com/Palisander-Recliner-Lounger-Matching-ottoman/dp/B001AVPAWQ

What I like about the Eames lounger is how it fits in with just about every decor while retaining an unearthly elegance, ...and talk about comfort! :cloud9:

Oh, one other thing: unlike most other furniture, Eames retains or increases in value (NOT the knock-offs; Herman Miller is the only licensed manufacturer).

BTW, that's a remarkably humanitarian gesture providing a restful place near comics for geeks to crash. (thumbs u

  5. Raniy day in Philly, and I had the day off, so I thought I would take an updated shot of my More Fun Comics run to date. Still have a ways to go though. The goal is 52 - 81

Wow, nice batch of Fun! :applause:

BTW, how long have you had that Rooms-To-Go couch? :baiting:

    Raymour and Flanigan :makepoint:

And it is a new addition to the comic room

  7. hello boardies! got nothing to show, just have an aversion to this thread laying dormant for over over a week.

I feel like my poor attempt at a jest just might've contributed to slowing this thread down a bit (how's that for irrational paranoia!), so let me try to prime the ol' Timely pump again by posting a bunch of scans of my Torch books (most of these have been posted earlier, either in this or other threads, but there may be a few surprises).

    What the heck...

I promise better scans soon (sans pool table); at least you'll get to see more detailed images! (thumbs u

  8.

    BEST find of All???

Alas, I can't recall the episode (I'll look for it, but no promises), but I came across an interesting scene on the television series box sets of the old early '60s crime drama NAKED CITY which were out four or five years ago. It's been awhile, but there is a chase which I recall stops for a few moments in front of a NYC newsstand. Lo and behold hanging in clear view is the prominently featured SA comic that recently sold for $1.1 million! :o

I'm sure you know which book I'm talkin' about! (thumbs u

    Cheers,

    David

  9. Have you heard of other finds as exciting as the recent Action 10 score on eBay?

    David

there have been many in that same realm... heck, I know of an action 7 purchased for $20 (many moons ago)...

I picked up a $12K for $3K 2 years ago...it happens from time to time where HUGE profits are available, but it is the exception, not the rule...too much information available these days, if folks bother to do the research (thumbs u

Picked up these two books back in December from different ebay auctions (the MM was an underpriced BIN)...

    daringcomics_7.jpg

    marvelmystery_66.jpg

...under $1K total (yes, that's for both books; no, I'm not kidding). :cloud9:

Yes, good things do happen now and then (it's all about being in the right place at the right time).

  10. been posted many times, but here it is:

    marvel1all92.jpg

Super awesome. I love seeing high grade copies of this book and they don't come around very often. Thanks for posting again, Gator. :applause:

    (thumbs u

Early Timely's are just awesome, period. :headbang:

    Thanks for the repost!

  11. So there's been alot of discussion about the plethora of SA pedigrees coming to market. With the Savannah collection just being rolled out and books from two spanking new pedigrees to follow, it seems like a good time to rejuvenate this thread.

Pleased with the quality of the inks and cover paper, with no tanning lines or apparent toasting:

    Showcase19.jpg

hm I don't see how Alanna could have tan lines based on what she's wearing!

    Nice book, namisgr! (thumbs u

  12. Just because these covers are so darn cool:

Those covers are very cool, Surfer! Hey, if this is "9.6 Day" I'd like to join in, ...can I, huh, can I, please? :insane:

    catman_4_CGC_compressed.jpg

:gossip: Actually, this baby was delivered several weeks back, but I forgot to post the new arrival in this thread. :sorry:

  13. Dear Gator,

As a dapper fellow and an environmentally conscious swamp-hugger are you inclined to wear real Italian shoes or side-step that sensitive issue with the knowledge that Italians are a constantly renewable resource? hm

  14. Awesome pick up. :applause:

Thx oakman ..... This book has been elusive.... :P

Nice pick-up Senormac! I can honestly say that Plastic Man #10 was the very first GA book I purchased from a comic dealer.

Great interior art and stories and a fantastic cover. Congratulations. (thumbs u

  15. Nice books Billy. BTW your getting hammered in the Timely thread.

but with full runs of young men and men's adventures, even the pre-hero stuff, i can hardly stand them down!

also, i need to get this book in the thread---it's my new fave church representative in my little set.

    cmj26.jpg

(worship) Beeee-eautiful Raboy cover on a virtually flawless Church book. Congrats, Billy!
