Holy Mackerel :whatthe:.  Funny, the centering isn't quite 100%, which I suppose I'd expect from anything over a 9.8.  Still an incredible book.

that's mold. you should just sell that book off. you don't want that stuff growing in your collection.

Argh! :pullhair:.  If it's really mold, it's going into the garbage.  I'm not going to pass it off to someone else.  Really frustrating - I got a really nice price on this copy.

Any other opinions?  Would love to be pretty certain before tossing this book - there's no smell that I could notice.

My initial impression is that it's about a 2.0 because a piece missing that is as big as this one inherently limits the book to the GD 2.0 range even if the rest of the book is not too terrible.  (The missing piece is actually larger than what the text states in the Overstreet Grading Guide, which "usually" allows up to a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, but the rest of the book is nicer than your typical GD 2.0 copy, so some leeway is allowed.)

There is one book in the Overstreet Grading Guide that has a similar size piece missing from the front cover - Whiz Comics #9 on page 250, and that book has some of the other defects apparent on your book, but the back cover of the Whiz Comics #9 isn't shown in the OSGG so a direct comparison can't really be made.  The Whiz Comics #9 was graded a GD+ 2.5.  But then you have a Captain Marvel Adventures #5 that has a somewhat smaller total surface area missing, plus some cover and interior animal chew on an otherwise higher grade copy that is graded at a GD 2.0 (page 259).

If I had to grade this book for sale, I'd call it a GD 2.0 but probably would not argue too much if you called it a GD+ 2.5.  It's kind of a wobbler.

Some great insight here - thanks!

I just got the awesome G.I.Joe Special issue!  Several years ago I met the awesome artist Scott Koblish at a comic con.  He's the inker on the Special issue.  I asked him to sketch a version of Snake Eyes similar to the cover image.  I also thought "what if Storm Shadow was on an opposite ledge from Snake Eyes?" so I asked him to also create Stormy in this pose.  It's amazing to see these all side by side!  Mr. Koblish is a great guy too, very engaging and easy to talk to.  I appreciate him and hope to meet him again one day.  Now you know!

It’s been a while since I sang the praises of hamiltonbook.com, but if they aren’t on your list of places to check for deals, you’ve gotta add them! Inventory fluctuates wildly based on what sort of closesouts and deals they can find, but I’ve found tons of bargains there over the years. Plus, shipping is safe, fast and cheap, and customer service is terrific.

It’d been a while since I checked them out, but I was delighted to find these last week. $14.99 for this hardcover slipcase box set of Pete Bagge’s Neat Stuff, which has a $60 msrp, and $15 for the DC Mignola HC, which is a $40 book. Also picked up some cheap ($10 and less) Alien books!

Over the years I’ve bought tons of Absolutes and Omnis for under $30, archives for under $10, etc. Comic selection is pretty thin right now, but it’s worth checking every week.

And if anyone is interested in that Neat Stuff set, they still had three in stock last time I checked!

Over the past few weeks I have been considering working on the run again. I still have the key snake eyes issues and 75 and 100. However I sold all of my first 20 issues and 154-155. I am a reader so none will be slabbed. I will post some here and hopefully bring some life back into the thread.

Sounds like an awesome idea - seems like an awesome run to complete.  I might post a few of my recent pickups too to help get things moving :)
