  1. Great comparison, These 3 seem highly speculative and not worth the risk. I would rather put my money in high grade: New Gods 2 The Forever People 1 Jimmy Olsen 134,135 They are speculative. Find a VG set and you can sell them for $40-50. NM set can get you $100 easy. How that guy got $120 for FN copies repeatedly is hilarious. If the writers somehow gives the JSA appearance in the JLA movie, then we will see allot of JSA issues be heating up on ebay.
  2. Wow you're right. I just checked on ebay and surprise by the price on some of those books. Especially the awful ones.
  3. Hugh Jackman Congrats - pic? It was just graded from CGC. That is great. You deserve it and it is will be well loved for sure. Congrats again and post pics when you have it. What sig(s) did you get? Indeed it will I got Marc Silvestri sig on the book. And who's been suggesting you submit these for the longest time, but you listened to Sam instead? And where did you buy these books from again? You Congratulations!!
  4. Here are the current turnaround times from CGC sisters company's. NGC PMG CGC
  5. Not half as surprised as I am that someone would get Alter Ego graded Cool book though. I meant was... I was surprise CGC was able to encapsulate a 160 page book into one of their holders. I did not know if it will fit or not.
  6. My first 9.9 CGC. And it's a whopping 160 pages. I was surprised CGC grade this one.
  7. Exactly. CGC is not a publicly traded company and Florida doesn't require (I'm guessing) disclosure of ownership interests. Comics Guaranty Company is an LLC, as is Certified Guaranty Company, it's parent company. Correct. All florida corporation public records can be found on www.sunbiz.org Until CGC goes public, ownership does not have to be disclosed nor does any financial information. Which is why I get annoyed when people start demanding CGC spend $ to hire employees and buy equipment. It's not our business and we have no idea what their profit margins are like. So far I haven't read people demanding only suggesting.to see what CGC can do to speed up the process. Why get annoyed what people write? The ones who should be annoyed are the customers that has their books backlog for 110 days or so at CGC. It's just words.
  8. Just buy another Encapsulation Machine, add a 2nd shift, and hire more graders. To train the new graders should be done on 2nd shift. That's a good idea. I'm assuming you will be putting up the $ to purchase the machine, and hire a 2nd shift, and hire more graders? That's very nice of you. CGC is a business, not a non-profit. They have to balance profits with keeping their customer base happy. With the amount of submissions they are getting, it doesn't seem like the turnaround time is hurting their business. I once worked for a company that had 3 shifts but their was a change of management and the new managers cut it down to 1 shift 12 hour days. Their customer were very angry, because parts weren't being shipped quickly enough. BUT the new managers wanted to show profit to the board of directors ( I'm thinking a hefty bonus at the year end). Eventually the company closed down because the company lost their biggest client (Honeywell) that was 80% of their business.

  10. I love this book !!!...And it's not easy to come by a high grade copy.... So true. Because of the black cover.
  11. Wow nice book Rocketeer. What's keeping it from being a 9.8? The last 9.6 CGC sold for a whopping $430. http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch_adv%2Easp%3Fall%3Dy%26TITLE%3Dadventure%2Bcomics%26TITLEOPT%3DALL%26ISSUE%3D462%26Condition%3D%26ConditionTo%3D%26CensusRank%3D%26SearchPageQuality%3D%26Pedigree%3D%26PRICEF%3D%26PRICET%3D%26DESCRIPTION%3D%26DESCRIPTIONOPT%3DALL%26SearchRemarks%3D%26SearchCGC%3D%26EXCLUDE%3D%26CATEGORIES%3D-1%26WCATEGORIES%3D-1%26SORT%3DCATEG%26_where_forsale%3Dy%26_where_auctions%3Dy%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26where_forsale%3Dy&id=933167 ...nothing,..it should be a 9.8,...CGC has been very tight in the last few months ,..but I was happy for the 9.6 If there's nothing wrong with it...I wouldn't be happy. I would give a call. Last year sometime, I called cgc to get results on my books. They told me it got 9.6's. I said there was no way the books I submitted could've got 9.6's, unless if it was damaged during shipping. Lucky for me the books just got graded that day, so I was able to talk to the senior grader for moderns. I ask politely to recheck those books while I was on the phone and he did, he couldn't find anything wrong with them. So he changed the grades to 9.8's. And he did apologize for their mistake.

  13. They do have to pay a bill, no idea if it's "hefty". CGC enforces faster turnarounds on books based on value to prevent this issue. If there's a "lot" of "cheap" books there, no idea what the formula is for their insurance. Average value perhaps? Curious...if a book let's say Amazing #15 and it was submitted under regular Economy for $800,000.00, Would CGC pay allot of money for that book sitting in the warehouse? Or would they grade that book as soon as possible?
  14. Tell me if I'm wrong but doesn't CGC pay a hefty bill to their insurance for each day that the book stays in their facility?
  15. One of my favorite covers he has done.

  17. How much & rare is the Venom: Lethal Protector #1 White Cover!? http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/Home/4/1/73/1012?articleID=45355
  18. Another steal I won on Ebay. But it has that overlay defect that is very common among digests. I just wonder, why so many digests has so many overlays on their covers? Stories include: "Battle Tags For Easy Co." by Bob Kanigher and Joe Kubert "I Kid You Not" by Kubert "A Penny For Jackie Johnson!" by Kanigher and Kubert "Head-Count" by Kanigher and Kubert "Calling Easy Company" by Kanigher and Kubert "Sergeants Aren't Born--!" by Kanigher and Kubert
  19. My family really find this digest adorable. It has a new story about the Super-Jrs. This is a very nice Christmas digest to bring out for the holidays. Look at the back cover on the digest, you'll notice Robin (The youngest of them all) sleeping and having a candy cane in his hand. Just like a wee toddler. And Batman, always looking after his boy wonder, is holding onto him. Because apparently the nails that holding the Super-Jrs did not hold for Robin. The digest includes... The Super Jrs go to the "Island of Forgotten Toys." Plus Sugar and Spike have 3 Christmas adventures. Super Jrs. - The Isle Of Forgotten Toys Sugar & Spike - Spike's Big Problem Sugar & Spike - Cowboy Santa Claus Sugar & Spike - A New Adventure With The Genius Cover done by: Vincent Squeglia Here are some pages from the book. The making of Super-Jrs. Source: http://digestcomics.blogspot.com/2007/08/best-of-dc-blue-ribbon-digest-58-march.html One of the strangest, if not the strangest, digests DC ever published--the Super Jrs. Holiday Special, an all-new sixty-five page story aimed directly at young kids! It's a fanciful Xmas tale that features five little kids who get transformed into pint-size versions of Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and...Flash (you all know what I'm thinking). There's no writing credit, but the art is by Vince Squeglia, someone I've never heard of before and as far as I know this is his only comic-book credit. The story is wonderfully told and Squeglia's art is beautiful, and the whole piece has a definite Sheldon Mayer-esque feeling to it. It's a really great kids comic, and again all credit to DC for commissioning it. I'm betting this didn't sell very well, because... A) you never saw Squeglia's art in another DC comic, and... B) this is one of the hardest digests to find--if not the hardest--on ebay, since I bet not many copies got saved over the years. There's also three Sugar & Spike tales thrown in: "Spike's Big Problem", "Cowboy Santa Claus", and "A New Adventure With the Genius", making for an excellent kids and/or Christmas comic. I would love to know the origins of this book's creation, whether it made especially for the digest or for something else(an abandoned children's book, possibly?). It's a wonderful anomaly. In Scott Shaw!'s Oddball Comics column. Apparently, the Super Jrs. was a merchandising concept used overseas, and this story was originally done for a Mexican comic, and then translated into English for this American digest version. And of course, now we know from our interview with Nick Cuti that importing this story was his idea. It may not have sold well at the time, but speaking for this longtime comics reader, I'm really glad he did it!
  20. One of my favorite covers in the DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest series. I still have more to come posting my digests. I would like to thanks everyone viewing this thread, it helps by recognizing these digests that are truly undervalued and not to be forgotten.
  21. In the spirit of the thread, here is the last issue of Adventure Comics. Can anyone name all the characters on the covers?
