  1. Very nice gift! Now that issue brings back memory. I must try to find it and read it tonight. I had forgotten all about those cards - I believe I need to obtain one more card to finish the set! Maybe I should get on that soon.
  2. For those interested in the Boom Archive TPBs, you might like to know that the cover on the Boom website for the Four Color 4 (and 13) is different than the one shown on Amazon (and more consistent with the other archive covers): http://www.boom-studios.com/disney-s-four-color-adventures-vol-1-tpb.html They also have the cover of the upcoming Donald Duck vol 2 archives as well.
  3. AJD - thanks for posting this here - didn't know that they were out - I'm placing my order on amazon ASAP for both books and the donald duck archive as well! I look forward to reading them.
  4. I recently got a copy of #106 myself maybe 2 months ago. I remember when I got it in my hands I was just drawn to the cover - definitely a classic WDCS cover. Thanks for posting it here - never get tired of looking at that one.
  5. +1 Excellent points there. Not only that, but I have a huge pet peeve with some sellers who think that because it's an (1) one-shot, hence it's a #1 or a (2) last issue of the series, that those things put a higher premium on the issue. Condition, scarcity, artist, specific appearances, or content matter all should be what we look at to determine value, not the issue numbering. That said, I hope Mummy's Ring prices stay low until I find a copy I am happy with saw two copies last weekend, both missing CF's....
  6. Try 212 pages It was a lot of comics for 50 cents. I think the sheer size of it is part of why it's very hard to find it in good shape now. My copy is VG+/F- at best, and I don't have much hope in finding a better copy (affordable).
  7. If anyone can answer this it would probably be Yellow Kid or Mr. Zoom. I would very much like to know the answer as well. One note I do have about this book is that I have seen two copies with labels like the one shown below, both from dentist's offices. This scan is of my own copy; I have a low grade complimentary edition and a slabbed regular version but have never compared the contents. The second copy was listed for sale on eBay in 2005. I saved a picture of the label somewhere but can't find it right now. I have never seen another Disney comic with this kind of "D.D.S." label, so either it is a remarkable coincidence or these rare variants had some special marketing purpose. Barbershops and dentist's offices used to have comics to keep kids happy while they were waiting. With television and DVDs there's much less need (or interest) for comics. I don't think that was what TB was wondering about - the WDCS in that era would usually have the address stamped on the comic itself for subscribers (IIRC), but the example he gave had a label stuck on the book. That makes me wonder if it was just a promotional mailing by the marketing dept to those doctor offices to see if they'd be interested in subscribing to the comic for their waiting room. If I'm off base, I apologize in advance.

I looked through the first couple pages of that thread. Amazing. I need to go through it all now tb: glad i'm not alone in my curiosity whether the promo was different in any other way. As for your question regarding the label, I am *somewhat* positive I have something like that on one of my WDCS books. I'll have to dig through them this week and see if I can find it. I remember it being odd that it wasn't a stamped address like most of the other mailed comics were. Maybe a trial issue/promo mailing?
  9. I think BZ has a copy of that WDCS Christmas giveaway. Near mint probably and not for sale but he has taken pictures to answer questions on previous occasions. Maybe he can help? BB-Gun - I'm still new around those parts Who is this BZ? I've always heard of this WDCS giveaway and seen only the front cover but never saw any more detail on it, hence my curiosity in finding out if there were any other differences. Would love to contact him and see if he can share that info with me. Thanks.
  10. Rich, refresh my memory on the Crescent City collection. Were all three of those present in it? If so, how nice were they? I know I should remember but it has been a long time since I made that purchase and owned them for such a short time Bill, Actually none of them were in it because Leonard wasn't able to find them in the condition he liked. Years earlier he had a beautiful FC #4, absolutely gorgeous, but he sold it to a good friend/customer who specialized in Disney, and he was never able to replace it. He had never even seen the WDCS #4 promo until I showed him my copy. Yellow Kid - how different is the wdcs #4 promo from the regular #4, other than the cover? Were there any other differences inside? Would love to know and thanks in advance.
  11. Don't you apologize for the great stuff you're posting. I love seeing that gag panel again. +1 Your posts are incredibly informative, and I (used) to consider myself very knowledgable about the Ducks but now I realize I'm still a newbie In any matter it's great to see how stories changed from what was originally planned (as shown in your OA) and to what was actually published.
  12. and the paper drives during WWII is where a lot of comic books probably ended up in? Wouldn't that be a big factor? Those old MMM covers are gorgeous. Don't own any but always tempted to pick up a couple...
  13. I recently acquired a Four Color 125 Lone Ranger missing a centerfold. If anyone has a coverless version or the centerfold of this book to trade, please PM me. Thanks!
  14. Picked them up last year, from two different sellers on e-bay. Printed by Dell. Anyone else seen those before? I've yet to see a 2nd copy of either since I accquired them. I know War Ships is listed in OSG, but War Planes is not. (side note: War Ships was mailed to me, in a plain THIN manila envelope, with no bag/board/cardboard/etc. Pretty much naked except for the manila it came in! Glad it survived intact!)
