  1. I used to find them in my local Walmart all the time. Not anymore. It's been a while since I've seen any Marvels 3 packs.
  2. Absolutely true, I've been doing this for over 40 years and I rarely found any newsies in comic book shops. And when I did, they were mid grade at best.
  3. Although I did start reading comics in the early 70's, I didn't start collecting them until the fall of 1978. The book that took me down the rabbit hole was Marvel Tales #98. That was 7 months before the first Direct Edition comic hit the stands, which would've been late March of 79. I remember buying a Star Wars #24 that had a slash going down the UPC box. I bought it at a book store that sold comic books in their basement. Then 3 weeks later I saw and bought the same book at the newsstand. This copy didn't have the slash in the UPC box. From there on, I tried to buy at least one of each copy of my favorite titles. Although I wasn't always successful when it came to newsstands. Either I would forget or the condition of the book wasn't up to my standards. I did this mostly through out the 80's and slowed down in the early 90's. I did start again in the mid 2000's, but with very few titles. When it came to DE I never really stopped buying them, with the exception of a year here and there.
  4. Just arrived from sunny Sarasota. Is this still the cats meow?
  5. How are the later printings of HR #1 selling? I thought there was like 5 or 6 printings, with most people caught of guard on the second printing.
  6. The real question should be, Why would anyone press a very common book like X-men #1?
  7. Just spoke to Roger the owner, he told me they had to close down their last location due to covid. They have moved to a new location at 104 Washington Place, New York, NY. It's just a few blocks away from their old location. They're still in the process of moving some stuff over to new place. You can reach him directly at (212) 691-0380. I would call first before heading out there.
  8. The only reason I have a small amount of newsies in my collection is because I was always actively seeking them out when they were being released via the newsstands. In the mid 2000's I was mostly working in Manhattan and anytime I came accross certain titles at the Hudson Newsstands in Grand Central or Penn Station, I would snap up only the high grade copies that I could find. Most of the time it was hit- and- miss. I always felt that these were always going to be very tough to find in high grade. Although, in retrospect I wish I had bought all of them.
  9. Spidey #252 actually came out on Thursday 2/2/84. I remember this because it was my birthday. Comics used to come out on Thursday until they pushed it back to Wednesday. I clearly remember going to my comic shop that day and being told only copy per customer. Although, 3 weeks later I did snap up another 10 or more copies from the newsstands.
  10. The background reminds me of this.
  11. Saw it twice already. First by myself on Saturday, then today with the family. The kids loved it, although the wife did fall asleep.
  12. I would have to agree with your assessment. There were still plenty of newsstands available in the early 90's. I would say it was around 96-97 that they started to decline.
  13. Took me forever to log in today.
  14. I met him back in the summer of 82 in a book store that sold comics in their basement in Flushing Queens. Very friendly and outgoing guy. He would actually go there to get his weekly fix. Definitely one of the good guys of the industry.
  15. I tried to get tickets last night for Sunday to no avail.
  16. Just curious on why we can't log on to the boards with our dealer's account?
  17. Everything that you wrote was spot on.
