  1. Always found the character boring, and nothing I've seen has changed my mind about that yet. I'm hoping the critical response is excellent to raise my excitement level.
  2. Also, yea, this is true...but their direct incentive will be to NOT release anything on Hulu. Disney owns 60% of Hulu, but Comcast owns 30% and AT&T owns 10%. It's to their direct benefit to promote their own streaming service rather than Hulu, so it seems more likely they'd tone any future version of Daredevil down. I'm not even sure that's a bad thing...what would you have to cut from the three existing seasons to make them PG? That scene from season 1 where Kingpin slams that guy's head in the door over and over again jumps to mind, but what else? There's no sex in the show, and I don't recall any cussing, although I could easily be wrong. I'm not even sure the show deserves an R rating, it might be PG-13 just as the three seasons already are.
  3. They might if the ratings sucked. That article I linked claimed the ratings for season 3 were significantly down, but I don't trust that. It cites some external company from Netflix that tries to guess what the ratings are for Netflix shows, but I don't have much reason to trust it. But Netflix knows what the ratings were, and I'm sure they share that with Disney. It's all speculative until Loeb says something specific. If a year passes and he's still said nothing, that's a VERY bad sign, so I'm hoping he comments relatively soon.
  4. Here's an article making several disheartening claims: http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/daredevil/feature/a871705/mcu-daredevil-cancelled-season-4-netflix-disney/ The show's executive producer had publicly stated that he already had talks with Netflix about a season 4. That directly implies that Disney wasn't simply holding the character back for its own service. Disney has stated that its new service will strictly feature only PG content, and that any adult content will be released via Hulu. Daredevil has R-level violence, so it seems unlikely they would release it on their own service without severely toning it down.
  5. That's my hope. Is there evidence of this yet, has Jeph Loeb said anything yet?
  6. I love Woody, but he's too old for this role. I've been wondering for a while if Sony started planning this new Spidey universe more to inspire Disney to buy Sony Pictures than to actually turn a profit, but now that it's turning a profit, it's got a life of its own. Man, the amount of money Marvel is having to spend to get all their properties back is mind-blowing.
  7. That's what it looks like to me, too--Rupert Murdoch's flunkies trying to milk money by slapping a new name on existing content before the money spigot gets redirected from Murdoch to Iger.
  8. Something surprised me greatly about this season of Daredevil--Netflix didn't stick it in as a recommended watch for me despite the fact that I watched the previous two seasons. It wasn't anywhere, not even in their new releases section. I had to search by name to find it, yet they somehow recommended the first season to me before I ever watched anything superhero-related on the network, and they recommended the second season when it came out. Had I not already known it was coming out I don't see how I would have ever come across it just browsing around on Netflix. Since it seemed buried in their pile of content and since the Disney service starts before long I've been half-expecting them to pull the plug. So while I'm surprised, I'm not at all shocked. I'm not sure we should take this as a falling demand for the show but more of a reflection of the currenty-faltering Netflix/Disney relationship that's about to end entirely. I was surprised this season even came out...until the announcement of its release I was expecting an announcement that they would be pulling the plug.
  9. The Mask was great. It was also technologically innovative in a very similar way that Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park were. Terminator 2's liquid metal effects were the big unveiling of CGI in movies in 1991, and Jurassic Park proved in 1993 that you could create realistic-seeming effects unlike ever before. The Mask proved in 1994 you could create effects that made cartoon exaggerations look almost real, and they blended REALLY well with Jim Carrey's already cartoon-like exaggerated movement and facial expressions.
  10. What's Columbia Pictures? I can't keep track of who owns what anymore. Sony bought Columbia Pictures in 1989 and renamed it to Sony Pictures in 1991.
  11. The China haul is amazing. Sony's really going to bend Disney over to buy Columbia Pictures from them now.
  12. Also note that this is the third announced forthcoming television limited series from Avengers that Feige will oversee. The others announced last month are Loki and Scarlet Witch. I'm guessing they're picking the characters they think are the most compelling but require the least special effects, although doing the Scarlet Witch well should require some significant CGI. Of the three series the one I'm most interested in is Scarlet Witch. Her powers have gone through a LOT of different incarnations in the comics since Stan never defined exactly what "hex powers" are, and I'm not clear on which powers the film version of her has settled on. I also want to see her finally tied to Magneto as her father now that Marvel has the X-Men back.
  13. Here's a cool comprehensive list of all references to Marvel films in the television shows: https://io9.gizmodo.com/all-the-ways-the-marvel-netflix-shows-avoid-mentioning-1793966664 Wish they'd unify this under Feige so these references start going both ways and the characters can cross over--and even better so that Feige can work the same magic on the television shows that he has on the films.
  14. Quesada and Loeb have repeatedly said otherwise, so I'd have to see whatever Feige comments you're referencing to have an opinion. I assume Coulson isn't going to be in the films again because the cover story for why he's still alive is lame and reminiscent of the old stereotype that comic characters get arbitrarily resurrected all the time but Feige had no control over what Perlmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee decided to do with their shows, but just the fact that they felt the need to come up with the cover story is implied verification that the television and film universes were meant to be shared.
  15. All of the Marvel-produced television shows are MCU canon, it's just that up until this one they've used characters that mostly aren't in the films. The reason they're generally not as good as the films is that they're under Ike Perlmutter and his Marvel Creative Committee, not Kevin Feige. Variety says in the article linked below that this series will fall under Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige instead of Perlmutter, and that's a wonderful thing. https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/falcon-winter-soldier-limited-series-marvel-1203015438/ I wonder what the future direction of the other series will be once they move to Disney's service? I'm not sure Feige can work his magic across all of the films AND all of the television series.
  16. I'm now up through episode 7. I'm still hoping they eventually bring a costume back, but there's something about the mask that's bugging me big-time. With the costume you could assume that the covered eye sockets were translucent or had some sort of one-way function where he could see out but you couldn't see in, but with the wrapped scarf there's no mistaking that this guy absolutely, positively cannot see through it. And after episode 4 (rest in spoilers): Maybe something after episode 7 explores this?
  17. Minimal. He got a directing credit for one of the segments in Sin City, but I've repeatedly heard it was Robert Rodriguez who actually directed most of his segment.
  18. I'm such a Miller fan and and loved the first Sin City movie so much that I thought I would enjoy this despite the critical panning, but wow, I couldn't watch it for more than 15 minutes without cringing dozens of times at the pure cheese.
  19. My thoughts exactly. Also the critic reviews weren't horrible on that film, just mixed.
  20. Seemed like it was setup for a single joke from Wolverine.
  21. I had no desire to see this, but you just ignited a sudden interest in seeing that scene only.
  22. We've been talking about it for a few weeks in the Water Cooler ongoing Netflix thread. I generally enjoyed episode one but was bored by the second episode and am disinclined to continue.
  23. I'm a huge podcast fan, but I already listen to about two dozen a week and I'm hesitant to add another. I saw that this existed and became interested, but I haven't researched it enough to know yet whether or not to try it. On the plus side, it's short and therefore looks like an easy listen. My main hesitation is every podcast I've ever listened to is basically news, science, or talk radio; I'm not sure I've listened to a fiction podcast ever yet, aside from one a few years ago related to World of Warcraft.
  24. Same here. I love the guy, but that voice he's using for Fisk is distractingly dumb. Minor quibble in a great show though, I'm up through episode 7 now.
