Dead in a Week (Or Your Money Back) (2018) Tom Wilkinson, Aneurin Barnard, Marion Bailey, Freya Mavor, Christopher Eccleston Written & Directed by: Tom Edmunds Platform: Netflix IMDB: 6.2/10, RT: 45% Rotten Synopsis: After his ninth unsuccessful attempt on his own life, a young man outsources his suicide to an ageing assassin. "If you're serious about ending it, you need professional help" Verdict: A decent black comedy with a few moments of genuine humour, however thats mostly due to the excellent Tom Wilkinson and when he's not on screen the film loses my interest, the young lead Barnard sleep walks through most of the film. Worth a watch though.

Dazed and Confused (1993) Jason London, Wiley Wiggins, Matthew Mcconaughey, Rory Cochrane, Joey Lauren Adams, Milla Jovovich, Shawn Andrews, Adam Goldberg, Sasha Jenson, Cole Hauser, Parker Posey, Ben Affleck, Michelle Burke Written & Directed by: Richard Linklater Platform: Netflix IMDB: 7.6/10, RT: 91% Fresh Synopsis: It's the last day of school at a high school in a small town in Texas in 1976. The upperclassmen are hazing the incoming freshmen, and everyone is trying to get stoned, drunk, or laid, even the football players that signed a pledge not to. Verdict: I've always been a big fan of Linklater and this didn't disappoint. A slice of 1970s America seen through the eyes of students, great cast and --script, typical Linklater which I really enjoyed.

The Dark Tower (2017) Based upon and also a kind of sequel to The Dark Tower series of novels by Stephen King Idris Elba, Matthew Mcconaughey, Tom Taylor, Denis Haysbert, Claudia Kim & Jackie Earle Haley Directed by: Nikolaj Arcel Platform: Netflix IMDB: 5.6/10, RT: 16% Rotten Synopsis: A boy haunted by visions of a dark tower from a parallel reality teams up with the tower's disillusioned guardian to stop an evil warlock known as the Man in Black who plans to use the boy to destroy the tower and open the gates of Hell. Verdict: Being a fan of the overall story and characters (but not all the books) I had been avoiding this film like the plague. Well, I didn't hate it, in fact it was better than I thought and parts of it I really enjoyed. However, it would serve better as a TV series, with a runtime of only 1hr 49mins it's asking a lot to put even the basis of a trilogy of movies into that short of time. Elba is a highlight and his chemistry with Taylor was a great representation of the book, I probably enjoyed it more than most, especially looking at that RT rating!

Verdict: Never watched or know anything of the original TV series, it starts off ok and seems typical Burton until you see a vampire redirect a house while the Carpenters are playing. After that I sort of lost interest, I thought Depp was good though.

  16. I couldn't resist either, picked one up last week. It is pretty awesome!
  17. I watched the movie on Sunday afternoon. Overall I liked it and I thought it was a good representation of the book (bearing in mind its my favourite book of all time), I didn't know it was actually 2hr 49mins until I booked the tickets. Saying that, I didn't feel bored at any time but I don't think the horror genre is really the place for 3 hour epics, there could be some stuff cut out and you'd still have the same result. It did very much feel like, "hey the first movie was a success so here is a bigger budget now lets use it", with horror I feel less is more. The set pieces were well done and looked fantastic on screen, but at times it felt very much like big set pieces just about stitched together to make a story. The latter half of the film does better justice to the book than the TV Mini-series did. I loved the TV mini-series for Tim Curry's portrayal and mostly the first half with the Losers as kids, the 2nd half with the stop motion spider was just awful and really dents an otherwise decent portryal, with a bigger budget and better writers the movie produces a much better 3rd act. The cast, Chastain, Hader, Mustafa & Ransone are the standouts of the adults, especially Hader who I was really impressed with. McAvoy sort of phones it in and Ryan doesn't really offer much. I was really disappointed with how the adult Henry Bowers character was used, almost just thrown in there just because. A film with this much padding it in could have given way to make the Losers old enemy have more impact then what was given. I didn't like the overuse of profanity (F word) turns up more than a Tarrantino/Scorcese movie, I know when old, old friends get together there is alot of banter and sometimes swearing is involved but it's totally different to how the Losers were portrayed as kids and it didn't sit well with me. Also how the film starts with the homophobic beating of two men was the most difficult and unnerving thing to see in the movie and because its never referred to or brought up again, I don't know what the point of it was entirely to be honest. Skarsgaard as Pennywise is a highlight, totally different interpretation to Tim Curry who I really loved, but he does a real good job and is worth seeing just for that. Overall, its good but it has its problems but I would see it again in a marathon viewing with the first. As a fan of the book, I don't think I could ask for a better interpretation.
  18. Redeeming qualities? Hmmm.... I did like the look of Amber Heard. I enjoyed the whole Italy sequence but I'd unfortunately saw most of it in the extended trailer. The Trench sequence was awesome. Black Manta? Come on dude, the acting was Star Wars prequel bad, he was chewing through scenery like no tomorrow.
  19. Got tickets for Sunday, really enjoyed the first one.
  20. It was ok, better than the Angelina ones. It starts off well but then sort of falls of a cliff.
  21. You know what, I felt exactly the same way after seeing the trailer. I couldn't be more disinterested. Which is really odd considering the actor & character involved.
  22. So Aquaman finally dropped onto a streaming platform that I subscribe to and decided to watch it with friends, we all felt the same way afterwards... it was bad! Not quite Suicide Squad awful but cliff notes for me: - It's far too long. - The acting is pretty awful, and when Dolph Lundgren is one of the stand out performances you just know how bad everyone else is. Momoa cannot act. - The Visuals looked like Tron underwater, some of which I liked but by the end of it so much was being thrown at the screen you couldn't tell what was what. - Too many battles and fight scenes, give me some story PLEASE! - The music was all over the place. The two things I liked from the movie were the sequence in Italy and the Trench scene. Basically everything out of the water. Black Manta was awful, seriously the acting was really bad in this movie. Just when you thought DC learned their lesson with Wonder Woman and Shazam, this pile of crud turns up. Urgh. Avoid.
