  1. Hot...for the quality stuff...there is a lot of room for growth
  2. I read and reread this SA comic book more than any other comic book, with FF1 coming in second and FF ANN1 a close third.....it made me a super collector...I cannot tell you the joy of finding it on the news stand and reading it in the car...back the old days...the wait between FF issues was really long. to live it and wait for it was something special...nobody new what to expect...like when I bought FF5 off the stand...who is that guy......they were head and shoulders above any other comic book out there, they were different and everyone new it.....collectors from issue 4 on would trade at a 3-1 level.
  3. opps...my bad, but the photo books did kick it....great stuff...but it hits right on point...who are these people...forgotten, misidentified, I would like to know about the builders of this form, it was the members who made it what it is today....we need a HOF, a history of CGC board participants who made it great. "Classic" response..maybe you should be next...42K posts.....
  4. Great choice....remember the eternal wait between volumes of his masterpiece the "photo journal"....it was like yesterday....the books stand the test of time and inspired me to buy or collect books I had never seen before.
  5. I agree put him on probation, or" double secret probation" but maybe he has mellowed a bit now that he has gotten older and has "real purpose" in life, no longer being a E-Bay seller living from sale to sale and having his income devastated by family medical bills and E-bay store attacks. His new project is to create a Comic book fandom history movie, his archives are simply put amazing because he knew where to look and get before they were destroyed ....I hope and pray, that if he is unable to create this project that the archives will be retained and given to a major museum. The stuff I have seen and talked about are irreplaceable. Lets hope this gets done as it is a win-win for everyone true comic book collector.
  6. Thank you. If we go back in time to 1973 I believe that Overstreet had Action 1 at 600 in mint. I was in love, I did not care about market value, price, resale etc..I went for it, from the heart. Spot on Ken.
  7. Clemency has been in the news lately as a hot topic. It is real. It's purpose is heal, and encourage rehabilitation in our society. Why not here....who are we to say or challenge a time honored tradition. Who out there will SECOND the motion.....who has the guts on this board to agree with this stand.
  8. Unfortunately his board life was cut ridiculously short by the "party". Yes he was controversial, yes he has unparalleled knowledge of the platinum age (see Overstreet), yes he was there from the beginning as a collector, dealer, and true comic book collector...with flaws...yes and who does not have them. We lost a tremendous resource on this board in which facebook gained. Yes he had the 1960's burn it down mentality. But it is WE the collective board knowledge that lost out, we have was witnessed many classic threads being deleted out of existence. Those, which were very vigorously debated, are gone forever, the "party: has erased them from existence and our memory. Hence controlling the past also controls the present and future. It is in the sprit of this loss, we must NEVER forget who build this foundation of the CGC boards, who by the are the best in the world, most knowledgeable, and most accessible in the comic book/art collecting world today 2021. And yet what exists today is only a banishment list...that is wrong until now.. Please take a minute today, to at least remember our fallen victims who have come, flamed out, and no longer exist according to Big Brother. There are always two sides to every story...and I fully believe in rehabilitation, that Men and Women can change, and that second chance should be given to those who have atoned or realized their mistakes. It time to create a CGC COMIC BOOK BOARD CLEMENCY LIST ???..... in the spirit of mercy and lenience.
  9. He officially became #1 member of the hall of fame CGC boards on post #1 of this thread in the Lord's year 2021. We cannot change history...please remember the mantra...."who controls the past controls the future and who controls the present controls the past" this unfortunately is our controlling narrative for CGC board history...especially today. We cannot "Buzz", rewrite history unless of course you in possession of absolute truth with all the written records and human memories , in which case you control the past.
  10. I do not think it is issues or that Cal acutally has issues, merely the way he communicates. Once you understand CAL, then you get it. Lets take his selection of IM/SB1...it is pure genius. You get two #1's for the price of admission, plus it was a one shot issue which was UNIQUE. Rather than have this issue be forgottern Cal has ingrained in our collective comic book CGC board mind, that there is real value on that issue. I bought that issue off the newstands and thinking how cool it was." Buzz" I disagree Cal us a survivor, a true comc book collector, who not only partisipates on these boards, but does so in a uniquie style for anybody else. With 10 K in posts, Poetry in motion Cal speak*, and the interest he generates, my choice was no brainer to our Hall of Fame. It is time to induct a second member...who amoung you will take up this challenge...and name number TWO...... *Footnote: "Calspeak": I am hoping someone will name me number 6...for" I am a free man and not a number"
  11. Cal fits that number of posts, actually exceeds that at 11,495, but in the spirt of Blade Runner " the light that burns twice as bright lasts half as long:...I agree that it must be significant poster over a sustained period of time, even someone who has been banned. It it important to make these boards, not termporay but for new memebers who want to see what a "classic" post is, or how a personality can come across, lets give me and new memebers a reference point. Come on, lets here some more nomations and why they deseve to be with CAL
  12. Thank you for your vote of confidence. To me, members lost on the board should not be forgotten it was those trailblazers who helped make what we have today, I would like to know what they did special, who they were, what did they collect. I assume the majority of the board members are just like me...comic book and comic art fans for life...no matter what happens we know deep down inside we like what comic books stand for, good winning over evil, EC science fiction stories which never lose their meaning, early comic book covers which you first bought with your folks, and those early collector friends that "got it". If so, it not just about the grade, the book, its about the people too.
  13. Incredible post...the "beat " poet shows why he should be the first HOF member...take it to the bank CAL
  14. Exactly, the point of having this thread, it is not just the comic books, but the collectors which make this hobby somewhat unique. Especially in the early days of collecting, when we ourselves created the comic buyers guide, early comic conventions etc etc, the early band of collectors were a wild off the wall classic bunch.
  15. Could be, Since I came on the boards later, could you name a few very early famous posters who are no longer on the boards, thanks in advance.
  16. Always loved that book..in the early days of collecting it was up there both in value and demand. In the last 50 years it has faded a little, I don't know why, it is one of the greatest and most valuable GA books on the planet....in my opinion
  17. One per person with an explanation would be workable, but there are really no rules. I think this would especially helpful of the very early board members who got this thing going , they have faded away UNNOTICED...they deserve some credit and recognition . SO lets do this thing......
  18. Sad story, I saw Stan many times, in the end it was not pretty. Still we need to pay respect to the fact that without him (him thinking about quitting circa 1959) we would not be here today.
  19. As a collector, dealer for over 50 years, I have seen amazing changes. Don't let the inflated size of the number of collectors, or investors scare you, the real and true comic book collectors have always been a sold base of around 50K, they will never go away, what is better today is that we have access to all of these great reprints especially GA and SA age material, in the old days buying the book was the only way to get the material. Change occurs but we now have a lot protections that Coins obtained earlier. By far GA/SA comic books have a much better long term value, once you get a 1909 penny, what are you going to do with it, certainly not ever look at it again, but the GA/SA comic book you have a piece art and history which conveys a superior message or image and is something you can look, even read if not CGC graded. I have heard this doomsday message for over 50 years, we are gonna be ok, in fact even better in the future with the success of Marvel TV now as well as the highly successful movies, etc. Don't let change fool you....the real collector base has never changed.
