  1. FF1, FF5, and FF6 created me as the comic book collector I am still today, at the time comic book collectors were stunned by the great combination of story and art....it felt like this was clearly something special, in old days the early FF's commanded 4 or 5 to 1 in trade.
  2. Short term we have seen collector's GA/SA demand and prices rise. This could be a new unknown factor...let me give you an example...Pokenmon cards and the collectors market has exploded due to speculators ramping up the market..it could be the same way...short term gains and long term pain when dump the widgets or GA/SA comics as winds change. Should you buy during that period of increased speculation...yes if done so very carefully..I would limit my purchases to GA/SA books which are graded, unrestored, excellent grade score, and great page quality....everything else at some point is gonna tank. The virus is not over yet, this will take years to repair..I am hopeful we can late next year have some definite proof that we have overcome that. In the meantime government stimulus is essential and low interest rates also.I think the smart investor looks at real estate and sees a "giveaway" of a 30 year loan at under 3%....that is got to be in my lifetime if you use the full 30 years an amazing deal given the fact that inflation is around the corner and given market conditions the word is out. That is an asset that can produce income if you don't use it. Mid range price wise SA/GA, etc can produce excellent returns but not income and possibly storage fees, as well as recovery of sales tax and shipping before a real profit can be made...but that return over say a 5 year period has to take into account inflation which is coming like a giant ocean wave also. Just be careful and picky and prepare to long term hold your SA/GA comic books as a true comic book collector and you will end up just fine. We as true GA/SA comic book collectors as a whole will be strong, but lets hope we do not get a speculator run the GA/SA comic book market.
  3. So we have a dealer/ collector who is a speculator/investor...makes sense.
  4. I think the real question is the buyer a fellow dealer, collector, or pure speculator/investor....
  5. I think the seller of the 6.0 said "a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush:" type thinking and it is a record price and I agree with the move to sell it before the 7.0 sale. We are at a crossroads here that may determine a number of books in less than perfect condition will start being considered at the 1 million dollar level. I would say this uptick in market prices and demand is not coming from "old time" collectors in the majority but speculators who are considering the best of the GA high grade Keys to be merely investment widgets to turn a profit from. Long term it does NOT give a rock solid foundation in which these prices will never go down, on the contrary is vastly increases the risk of true GA comic book value( among true collectors) will be subject to market swings tied to the economy of the world, rater than this slow 50 years solid foundation increases which have built out GA/SA comic book world today. I know things are always gonna change...but for me I would be very careful in spending a million dollars on any GA/SA key under 8.0 unless white pages and it is a solid grade evaluation.. This is really big risk here on both the 6.0 850K purchase price plus tax and 7.0 if above a million plus sales tax long term.
  6. I agree but even say at 10%, there still is room for a profit when buying at $732K....very significant sale breaking the 750 price barrier for a 6.0...look for the 7/0 to be about 1.1
  7. There is a possibility of no insurance payout...I don't know if storing material in trailers outside of Jason street in a yard down the street would be covered. Clearly the loss due to theft would be covered by a tax deduction off of income. SO either way I think it might be a win-win...looking at the pic...if they had been there for say 30 years it appears that more than one theft occurred over time. How can Chuck warn other comic shops or buyers about what to look out for if he does not know himself exactly? Either way its not cool, and I hope the thieves get nothing for their trouble.
  8. I believe said he had 10 million items ( comics ,GN etc) at the store along, plus another 3-4 million in storage at his ranch that would him between 13-14 million items, yes he is a hoarder and tends to hang on to large inventory. I do not doubt that you outsell MH comics probably 3-1 or greater or that you have many more employees.I also agree on selection as you have many more expensive items. I think chuck prices his comics books on the higher side or highest side of the spectrum such that he can maintain as much stock as possible. Valuing your inventory vs chucks at 13-14 million do you have a rough estimate as to how many comics you maintain in stock day in and day ?...13-14 million is a awful lot even if it is just bulk?
  9. I wonder which operation is bigger comic book wise Chuck says he has like 10 million at the store and 4 million in storage as his ranch or something and that he has the biggest collection/stock in the world...but I think MCS is bigger..right?
  10. You should check out chucks videos on youtube...he explains his pricing...it a bit out there....
  11. I agree MCS is superior in terms of price, I have not bought from chuck for a long time, but I used to buy a lot of Marvel Masterworks and other items for him when he was at SDCC. His higher prices take into account the largest comic book store's upkeep and and expenses and a large number of employees as opposed to a regular E-bay seller.
  12. a lot of people have bought from chuck over the years including myself, I think on the lowest end books would be the safest .say the dollar books, but there is old saying that FMV is what a willing buyer pays a willing seller so...I understand from a consumer point that the books could be bought at a fraction of he is charging however there is a fee for the inconvience of shopping a lot of different web-sites that MH charges for.
  13. great book and welcome to the boards
  14. Agree 100%, I wonder if the buyer will be an investor or true comic book collector?
  15. If it cracks 1mil+ very strong result which could bootstrap lower grade copies way up...HA.com has the buyers for sure.
  16. one million is a success , there are very few collectors who can right that check
  17. The classic FMV response is what a willing buyer and seller agree upon. Too may of us rely only on Auction sales or E- bay sales to determine FMV and apply those market conditions to other similar GA/SA books. The reason we rely on that is simple..it easy to access. In some ways bob Overstreet's guide is superior as he assembles a universal market report from the dealers on the front line. I would say comic book convention dealers/ flea market dealers would be the best source for current valuation. There are no conventions and flea markets during this pandemic , such that will be missing from the equation for current valuation methodologies, but some of them have strong web presence. So I go back to square 1- willing buyer and seller some of whom don't care about prior sales or current FMV and Overstreet nailed it, the price of valuation is just a guide.
  18. The jist of the conversations was that GA/SA comic books from his collection have appreciated in value. There was some dispute over exactly how much they appreciated. The point is, that collectables, and would say "quality" collectables have gone up according to GPA and other sources. If you read the mile high comic book newsletter like I do, Chuck thinks the more comic books are being destroyed than created due to the limited publishing and distribution that has occurred during the pandemic as well as the wildfires which have hit the west coast especially hard.He claims is mail order business is booming such that he has just bought like $750K worth of out of print marvel TBS etc that apparently Marvel was dumping from there warehouse and not he refused to give discounts on TPS/Graphic novels which he is hoarding. So depending upon who you hear it from it is either the best of times or the worst of times.
