  1. How about disclosure on the label that the book as been permissibly restored or altered..that would be a way of saying its not original...I agree with waaghboss the grading label should disclose it if known...
  2. Using restoration and "getting away with it" before, during or after the grading process misses the real issue here. What true GA/SA comic book collectors are objecting to it changing something from its ORIGINAL condition or modifying it..of course adding additional profit on the CGC reward system grading scale. Why should a 8.0 Action #1 become a 9.0 highest value comic book over a "true" and UNRESTORED , unpressed 8.5 That is unfair putting it mildly . This is grade and greed madness and not motived by the real issue here. The true comic book collector in reality what to purchase the GA/SA comic book in ORIGINAL CONDITION...just like in coins if you cleaned them, it decreased the value. That is why we have a purple label to begin wtith...I do not buy in to you theory as to timing before labeling or grading to eliminate conversations as to what is right and wrong in this collecting world. Why have a purple label at all, if these grade manipulations are allowed, encouraged and rewarded which change the original appearance and grade of the GA book..where does that leave us in the end?... Should CGC create another label saying " Original "Answer please.
  3. This is the best summery of this issue and the best post I have read this year..not only do I agree with you 110%..this manipulation of changing permissible blue label "get away with" it restoration will lead to rejection of the CGC grade itself..or grade and color dilution of credibility of the blue label itself and the CGC. Greed could get the best of us here......
  4. same here , my folks said some kid was selling comic books our local mall out of a box...she brought me a bunch of Thunder agents....great reads...I started collecting those also at once.
  5. I agree..Superman is the "man"...once complete let us know...
  6. I can remember looking and looking in the late 1960’s for man on a rampage Spider-Man issue,,, the story line continued, it took me a year to find it... great read..that much has not changed.. just recently reread it... still great
  7. I will second that but much greater in my opinion in the original comic art market than in Ga comic books and I remember a story on these boards about a comic art dealer who routinely raised prices on comic art that did not sell and other stories of inter comic art deal sales to raise overall market prices. While comic book and comic art auctions are subject to manipulation.. the vast scale of say 1700 items auctioned at one time such as the HA Sign auctions are less subject to this given the sheer size of it.
  8. One other point I would like to make about the difference between collecting today and say 1960's 1970's 1980's is when you left and sold your books, there was no way you could really get that material again in any form. Today with the incredible reprints, I can buy 3 Vols of Fantastic Four hardcover bigger in size, better in color and get FF 1-93 plus annuals of unpublished covers for around $300...(note they are reprinting Omb #2/3 in 2021). I agree with your beater copies nothing compares to the smell, feeling of holding that original book. But if they are slabbed you cannot read them anyway. So I can see how it is easier to disconnect from collecting today, rather having the actual physical copies you should STILL be considered a collector even if you just have the Big reprint books. But way back when, when you were out, you really out Today, if you come back you can still get the material that who sold back in a different format. I think it is a very interesting issue here..can you still be considered a true comic book collector with a collection of reprints...? any thoughts...
  9. How can they clean that and get away with a blue label...how is that actually done...that is amazing from one photo to the next....WOW thanks for the pic...
  10. We all evolve as collectors...when we are young we feel we can last forever and what we buy will be with us forever. but things change at some point your know that you time left is not as much as your time that you have lived...so things change, I am sorry the comic book shop is a no go...so many going out added to yours not going in means for tough times in terms of getting new and young collectors interested by dropping by the shop. I disagree your view that leaving a comic book collection in this day and age is a burden...too many options, you can also instruct recommend that they go to auction, no cost to them and they get pure profit on the return. Don't forget, while you might not read all of those books in the bookcases, it still gives you freedom to chose what do want to read, the smaller the collection the less options. I have come to the understanding that I will never be able to read every GA comic book that I want to..... Don't forget in the future, that you might want to recollect and get that passion back..dont made rash decisions in the middle of a pandemic ...think carefully and be careful...good luck... On a personal note...I hope you can resolve some of the mutual issues you have with you son prior to passing.
  11. No mystery here...if you had read some of my early posts, I am still the collector I was back in the early 60's/70's and we never showed out hand and I mean never. Early on if a dealer or other collector knew you needed the book, the price was double, second early on a number of great collections were stolen and of course none of that has been discussed here on the board it has been lost to the tears of the many collectors of the past...look into the SF comic books which Nick bought...he came to the Berkley comic convention in ...1972 or 3 showed off the big stack of timely's he had just paid for $1 a piece for and they were amazing condition wise..I saw the entire stack, as did others..where did showing off get him?..stolen thats where..Hello. Old school and I am proud of that collectors had a code...of conduct....make that survival...besides the whole world laughing and being against us and calling us "dorks" we prevailed to a point in 2020 that nobody back then would believe. Like it or not the creation of the CGC will forever go down in history keeping GA/SA comic book collecting relevant forever. Your version of comic book collecting and mine are polar opposites..yes I can adapt, slowly but you have to lived it..been there...the excitement...not for $$$ but for the quest and finding and reading GA material which we thought had been lost forever. It was and will ever be to me all about the GA comic book itself. I cannot tell you how many times everybody spoke about the END or doom, or that prices have peaked, there was a man by the name of Bruce Hamilton..he helped create the CGC and later became disenchanted with it and he had the biggest safe that I had ever seen for his collectables...he was a pioneer collector who also lived by the early collectors code of slience. Men of honor...yes, there was less money on the table back then...still it was who you were that counted back then, not what you owned.
  12. I had seen earlier on the board some of this , but I had no idea so many of the Mega Keys are juiced up, pumped up and then hyped by the auction houses...yes every sale by the auction house increases GA prices and fees for the house...however in fairness to the buying public, especially GA/SA comic book collectors who do not know about this great board or do not take the time to really read and enjoy it. I had a idea that I would like some feedback with the board. The complete grading history be disclosed by the sellers, auctions houses, and dealers....in fairness and transparency to all. This would be done by Keeping the serial number of the graded GA book the SAME and being able to look on line for its entire CGC grading history. This would make sure that the buyers were aware of where the book had been and putting some sort of realistic valuation on your bidding process. Thoughts?...can it be done? Happy "Thanksgiving" to all..
  13. At the time...I was unaware that somebody could juice up the Pages of a comic book to make them white.....I still am in a way...does anybody know the secret behind this....?
  14. Lou: the video made for e-bay on the sale of Action 1 9.0 white pages..clearly shows super white pages...to me it is impossible for CGC to have not graded those pages otherwise..something had to have been done........in between grades...
  15. When will the “madness “ stop... the only thing is for the buyers not give such an incredible premium ... I firmly believe the page upgrade on action 1 upped it a million...
  16. Wow how do do that.. on the video action 1 9.0 white pages for the eBay sale , in the dark they were Snow White ... amazing.. how did they upgrade that.. they were bright white
  17. Question: on a mega key... what is the record grade jump from initial CGC to final upgraded grade? Anyone know?
  18. I will second that...some amazing work, thanks for the pic MC
