  1. Awesome! I am sure you are sad to see it go, bit it will make someone very happy. How the heck am I going to compete with you now for those sweet Planet Comics issues
  2. Someone asked me to post this book eons ago. Finally dug it out to take a photo, some old label pedigree goodness ?
  3. The world is full of unscrupulous individuals. I was looking at a collection one time to purchase, it really was nothing great upon inspection, about 300 books, mostly 90's drek with about a dozen mid grade bronze issues. He informed me as I started looking through the books, that his knowledgeable comic friend had offered him $1,500 dollars to purchase the collection but he was not sure if his friend was trying to lowball him, but he would prefer to sell to someone other than his "friend" After taking a look to make certain there was not 3 or 4 Hulk #181's hiding in the pile of books, I told him he should take his friend up on his generous offer as he was unlikely going to get another offer as good as that.
  4. Temptation = Planet Comics #70 ?
  5. Sign me up, will probably need to grade most books from my phone, but living dangerously can be fun!
  6. An update on the flood damage and clean up. The room has pretty much been completely cleaned up and is almost 100% dry now. Still a minor bit of moisture under some parts of the laminate floor but that is steadily drying out. I had planned on replacing this at some point, so I will remove it at a future date as its warped in many spots as a result of the water. I pulled some additional books out that were also water damaged. Nothing major, but lots of modern type drek and some lowish grade bronze/copper age stuff. The books absorbed some water, but most books only had water marks on the lower portion of the books. As opposed to junking these ones, it was nice and hot out, so I put the books our in front of the house along with some other stuff in case any one wanted to grab them for themselves. One stack was gone within an hour and the other two stacks were taken within another hour after that. I suspect someone grabbed a bunch while out for a walk and came back later with a car and took the rest. The books I put out were all water damaged, but pretty much dry when I put them out, so hopefully someone can put them to use for themselves. Whoever found them was probably thinking "Score!!", its not every day you see stacks of comics just sitting at the roadside. A few of those later books I was clearing had already started to grow small bits of black stuff on them (I threw those in the garbage) so I was glad to get the last of the damaged books away from my other stuff. The additional work I did to stop water from entering again seems to be working well as we have had several big storms roll through since the "incident" I will probably purchase a few additional shelves or bring in a pallet to at least keep my additional books off the ground. Its not a complete solution, but at least would help avoid any future damage from water entry like the last one where the floor fills with water that is not too deep.
  7. Posting in these long forgotten threads feels like a dancing in a graveyard in some ways
  8. Happy to see all these new Planet issues from the Berk collection making their way in to the hands of FH and Planet fans!
  9. Only so much time to clean up and get everything dry that needs to be. I kept some books back to dry out, but unfortunately I just don't have the space, resources or time to try and save them. They were all soaked right through and don't want them fostering mold and mildew that would potentially spread to other areas and comics. Having had so many comic boxes destroyed, I have stacks of books piled up all over the place until I can source some fresh boxes (I have them on order now)
  10. The Planets were all ok. I keep those in another room well away from the floor
  11. Thanks for the info. Not going to go through insurance as the damage has been pretty minimal all things considered. My neighbors put a claim in a number of years ago when a main break put two feet of water in their basement, the cost of clean up and damages was over 60K. They had had one previous smaller water claim as well. There insurer will no longer provide them with any flood coverage as part of their insurance ? Hopefully I won't run in to any severe flooding situations , but if I ever do, that is when I will be contacting our insurance group to deal with it.
  12. Its an older house that had some water leakage issues due to an older style concrete block foundation when we first moved in. We had the house set up with external waterproofing and new drainage systems which worked well for the last 4 or five years. The basement has sunken windows with those galvanized barriers around them that protrude up through the ground. With a combination of all the heavy rains, and some erosion around the window area with the barrier settling over the years, a big run off of water basically emptied directly to the window space and flowed right past the window frame, down the wall and into the basement room from what I can tell. Windows are meant to be weather proof, not submersible proof. I did some fix up today that should keep it from happening again.
  13. My collection is probably over 14,000 books, there are only so many places in the house they will fit. I do have other books in different parts of the house too.?
  14. This was primarily from a collection I purchased, so more mid and lowish type grades. Some of those books in the bag however were books I collected when I was a kid ?
  15. I am up in Markham/Thornhill. Its the same rain
  16. These are the higher grade losses. Mostly completely waterlogged ?
  17. I am actually very grateful the damage to the books was limited and most of my nicer raw books made it through ok. It could have been way worse.
  18. Ensured most of the Mylar books whose boxes got wet were in fact still dry and I wiped of any residual moisture on the base of the bags. The top picture are books from wet boxes that were protected by the Mylite 2's , the second pic shows few books that had some hole or crack in the Mylar and are pretty much done. The JIM is only partially wet, I may see if I can salvage that. These books are in addition to the ones I mentioned earlier that are toast?
  19. I am wiped. I have pulled the majority of books that got hit and dryed of any moisture on the Mylar. Lost about 6-7 long boxes of material, about 70% of the longboxes material lost was Derek type stuff, the other 30% low grade bronze and some beat up silver. Still going through the books damaged, but lost about 20 high grade silver age books. That were stacked on the floor, no real keys or anything, but still upsetting. Will work for a couple of more hours drying and cleaning up the books.
  20. In this box, all were ok except for one. So grateful I upgraded to Mylar over the last five or six years for most of my collection
