  1. That was always such a confusing point with me. GI Joe was such an 80's thing when he arrived despite the two movies. Box office showed that GI Joe seemed to only be awesome to the middle aged adults that remembered the 80's... yet he was clearly a child.
  2. they are going to be beside themselves when I submit the NFL cards... Just received my Plaxico, Sam Hurd, and Winslow Jr chase autographs. I really want a notation of "Legal Troubles collection."
  3. You got two pernts today though... so at least you have that going for you... which is nice.
  4. I riled someone up last year in OA when I made mention that the general public doesn't care who half the artists are who everyone chases and spends thousands on just to get an image of the back of a character in one panel just because a certain artist drew it.
  5. I went to look at the exact date. Girl at the time and I went to go see Morrissey at the Hammerstein. Then we went out after the show and wound up in lower Manhattan. Deciding to go to Dunkin, we are standing online for coffee and donuts when this guy with spiked hair, spikes and a leather jacket and pants comes running in screaming, "help me help me help me" and ran behind the counter of the D&D trying to hid in the back. This brick wall of a dude smelling of 'club' and dressed like he was at the Roxbury has blood all over his white shirt and his cheek is a mess. Guy was slashed in the face but somehow got a hold of the knife. He ran in there with his friends and ran behind the counter and they started working Mr. Spiked Hair and dressed in leather over. Everyone screams. I said let's get out of here. I made sure to grab my order before we left. I remember that one vividly.
  6. Not at all. Last time I witnessed a stabbing was in October of 2007, Halloween in NYC...
  7. With your use of the word "your" and "you're" you should pay tribute to those that came before you and change your user name to "card_connoisseur".
  8. Oh and anyone that has ever intentionally wronged Greggy... if someone has ever intentionally wronged Greggy I hope they get mauled by a bear the next time they go walking through the woods and their corpse is scavenged by other wildlife.
  9. Can I get a ruling for wishing people death on Christmas who wrong me in egregious ways, like cutting me off in traffic or playing on their phone at a red light and being so involved in their phone they miss the green leaving everyone stuck behind?
  10. What's happening is that too many people do not understand what 'free speech" is. You don't have it here. This is a privately owned entity. You play in CGC's sandbox. Free speech protects you from being imprisoned by the government. So let's put it into perspective. You are interviewed by a camera crew at the park and you casually mention how you hate (insert ethnic group here) and how they are ruining your park experience. The police will not arrest you because as Father Lorfanfant said, "Dear boys, America is a wonderful place. Everyone gets to show how stoooooopid they are." However, when this airs, it does not stop you from being fired because your boss does not want you representing his business with those views. It also doesn't stop your neighbors and society from shunning you.
  11. I get to make a ruling on this believe it or not. So long as the Card subforum is attached to the comic book boards and are not a separate entity like the coin boards. The card subforum closures will qualify for pernts. (IF such a thing still existed.)
  12. The PayPal TOS says it. If PayPal is offered then a discount cannot be offered in the same setting that PayPal is offered, to provide the customer an incentive NOT to use PayPal. There was a guy doing some shady stuff on a Facebook group a while ago. He was a tool. A bunch of the people supposedly got in touch with PayPal and the seller himself complained that PayPal locked his account as they reviewed his transactions.
  13. I might reactivate IG... I had great success over Facebook dividing the remainder of my GI Joe collection by a third... Been hinting at things for awhile... since November... I think this is a year of a major cull.
  14. Yes, but possibly not in this way. I believe it is a combination of an overall shift in collecting what is important and the impact of digital reproduction and collected works. When I was a kid and decided I wanted every single Amazing Spider-man ever made I went with an approach I had from baseball card collecting. Get the rookies. I did not care about the storylines, did not care about the artist. I did not care about any of that. I knew I had to prioritize the rookies. So I went after 1st Black Costume, 1st Black Cat, 1st Hobgoblin, 1st Green Goblin and so on and continued to buy it every month working my way backwards and picking up other books as I had extra cash. I had an AF15 before I had an issue 1. Go for the rookies. The values of a lot of the books these days seem to increase for rookies as the first appearance of those characters are the things that are really popping. Sure, a 9.8 or a 9.9 is reaching five figures of certain books because there are some bored people out there. But, people are buying up 1st appearances waiting for a show, like a card collector looks for rookies of players that show signs of greatness. Movies are performance. If Judge hits over 40 HR for the next four years and gets an MVP. Gold Glove, Batting Title or anything else while the Yankees win another championship, does Judge's rookie card increase in value? Of course it does. So, if the movie is a blockbuster, it gains more exposure for the character and the character's first appearance increases in value as well. Because... well... rookie card. If the movie or show is a dud, then the rookie card decreases in price. FF 45 is an example of that. I think that this has flipped comic collecting on its rear end. While in the 80's we were told that Miller's Daredevil run was a must read, it's really Elektra's first appearance that is the standout. Sandman is a great title, but really the only two books you 'need' to own is 1 and 8. The rest you can read digitally or through a collected edition.
  15. That’s not what he said. Perhaps you should reread. He said that regardless of how or what anyone was doing how will this impact the market. He was not debating it. Personally I see a severe drop of usage on eBay starting in April of 2023 once people file their 2022 taxes and say it’s not worth dealing with a lot of this anymore. People will start “dumping” collections to dealers but only with the idea of receiving cash in hand. Some things will be simply donated to charity like golf clubs or old clothes to avoid dealing with it all together. I will imagine it will be harder to find things like legos from a bulk collection because moms will donate them or ... I’m horrified to say this... throw it out. however... expect to see a lot more local garage sales and tag sales. Expect a lot more in hand trading and selling. Edit Also people people to be severely more selective with what they buy. There will be a decrease in sales across the board. I see quite a few people buying a lower grade condition item until they find the higher grade copy they want. Trading upward will be a little more complicated than previously believed. The flippers will take a step back. This may drive prices downward. Again though, I see Facebook local sales and Nextdoor market place pickups increasing... I also see a lot more theft, manipulation and violent crime increasing. Some fool is going to try and offload a $2000 NM 98 CGC 9.8 or a pair of Jordans... and someone is going to try and rob him. I want to see how it all plays out.
