  1. So... @ADAMANTIUM Keeping it light this year... I took plenty of pics of people in costumes and some displays but I think I will hold off on them. Here is what I picked up. Weird Science 22 - Picked up from Highgradecomics / Storms for $160 - Love the cover and slowly putting this run together. Marvel Tales 153 - The cover looked interesting and for $22 I couldn't beat that even in a lower grade. Picked up from Tomorrow's Treasures Action Comics 359 - Girl accuses Superman of killing her father? For $5 let's see what happens. Picked up from Tomorrow's Treasures Hallmark Enterprise - At the Hallmark Enterprise I walked up to see what was going on this year with exclusives. They told me about the Enterprise and how it was a con exclusive. I wasn't paying close attention and took it home for $40. They I realized it was the "Evil Enterprise". Meh... #NotMyEnterprise - Put it up on eBay and sold it for $70. It ship out tomorrow. eBay was handing out $10 Gift Cards and Cell Phone Camera Stands... ummm sure. No brainer on that. I entered both accounts in the raffle for $500. Gift cards will be used - free $20 Funkos - Special thanks to the board member that hooked me up with the NYCC Pinstripe Pigeon. I ordered the others from Funko themselves as they became available. I picked up the other two pigeons, the Mandalorian, and Aloha Freddie all for $15 each. If anyone else is interested you can get the Black and Red costume pigeons still from NYCC but the Mandalorian has sold out and Aloha Freddie is still available. Stumbled on some old toys so I picked up a clean Hammerhead and Gammorean Guard as well as the Grey Beard Obi Wan for $7 each. NY Yankees Mummy Pin... $10 sure... why not? Zap - heh... was walking around with a boardie when I saw the poster for Joes that this guy had. I saw Zap and immediately inquired. This was on a Saturday. Zap is notoriously hard to find with his hands in tact due to the size of the accessories cracking off his palms or his thumbs. Even though I am getting out of Joes, I figured I would hold onto him for a bit and then offer him online. Picked him up for $37. Larry Hama sketches - When I went to pick up my sketches this year I had a great conversation with Hama that had nothing to do with GI Joe or comics and I had not seen him laugh and smile like this in years. A couple of guys behind me were foot tapping but Hama kept telling a great story after great story. These go to my portfolio of Joe art. I picked up a Scarlett and a Beachhead this year. Not shown, I picked up two blind bags for gifts, each containing a plush cat with octopus tentacles on the bottom of them called Tentacle Kitty. $15 each.
  2. I have enough pics. I took pics with the intent of doing a thread and I went floating around the show with two guys from the boards, one who is an active participant and one who lurks. However, who knows.
  3. Skipping the last day. I already got up at 8:30 and pulled a root ball from the ground from the hedge I cut down. After that, there is no need to walk around the Javits floor for a couple of hours. Picked up three books the entire con. I wound up buying two books from Richie Muchin / Tomorrow's Treasures and added to my Weird Science pile with issue 22 from Storms. Storms is fairly priced and easy to negotiate with. Overall seemed to be a great day if you were shopping for graded video games. Curious to see if any of those sold.
  4. Marvel unveiled the costume on Saturday at NYCC.
  5. I just got back and settled in from the show. I am going to repeat what I have said before. People are not selling to dealers anymore. Bob Storms himself, commented when I wrote this that dealers are having a harder time finding collections to buy and have to adapt to this climate in order to compete. Why would I ever sell my books to a dealer? Unless the dealer is going to give me 90% of the value I am going to send those books to auction at CLink, CConnect, Heritage or MCS. So the main competition seems to come from auction sites. When dealers are sourcing even some of their inventory from the auctions I am competing in they are going to buy a book and raise the price to have a nice wall book here and there. The value then goes up because the dealer wants to make some scratch. The thing is, if I am the underbidder or monitoring the auction then I know what the book is 'worth'. I'm not paying the inflated dealer price on the book I wasn't quick enough to nab on the latest auction site last week. I am walking around the show and realizing that I can find better deals on books online. It's disappointing but true. In the last 30 days I have spent into the four figures toward buying some things. I have cash and a credit card with me at NYCC as I walk the floor. The thing is, I am not going to buy something just to come home with something. I am patient and I can wait. If I can do better online then I will wait until then. I asked about a copy of ASM 31 today (1st Spider Gwen for the Noobz) - guy had it in his booth and I inquired. He had to make a phone call to the dealer than ran the booth. Raw book was in a 4.5-5.0 range at best. The guy wanted $300 firm. Seriously? Okay... I will pick up a graded 4.5 for $175 at the next auction. Glad I picked up my 9.0 from another collector last fall. So for the books I am looking for? Let's see when the next major auctions are: Comiclink auction starts on 10/16 Heritage has a Sunday auction on 10/6 and then again on 10/13 and every Sunday thereafter Heritage has a major auction event coming up in November Comic Connect is running their next event auction ending on October 14th. There is PLENTY to pick from as a buyer. It is a buyers market if you are patient and it is a seller's market for the impatient.
  6. Mark's very busy these days. https://nypost.com/2019/10/03/whistleblowers-attorney-says--didnt-help-write-complaint/
  7. So far I picked up three loose and incomplete Star Wars figures... I bought the Enterprise Hallmark Ornament exclusive to NYCC only to realize that it is the Mirror Universe Enterprise... to eBay it goes. Tooka picture with the Far Side wall for the school of the gifted and took home the welcome back free print. I love me some Far Side. Bought a $5 Action Comics 359 where Superman is on trial for killing some girl's dad. eBay is giving out $10 gift cards and iPhone tripods to take pics. I also bought a mummy - NY Yankees pin. Have my eye on a few books but just spent $640 with ComicLink... I am still doing better at auction. Took a few pics and will be back around tomorrow through Sunday at various points of the day.
  8. Had a few meetings to go to at NYCC and then walked the floor. How many times can you say, "Excuse me" to someone buried in their iPhone and standing in the middle of the aisle oblivious to those around them until you just bounce your way past them? Asking for a friend.
  9. I am thinking of doing this show. After a day of throwing elbows into people standing in the middle of the aisles nose deep into their iPhone and oblivious to everyone else saying excuse me and please move... This could be interesting.
  10. It’s always a slippery slope. I believe that you are correct that this is a jaded and crazed reviews. I didn’t know you had to be anything other than a white male in order to have a bad day. But it is still a slippery slope. I was recently in a meeting when someone remarked that women were not receiving equal pay while fulfilling the same role and putting in the same time with the same credentials while having the same productivity levels as someone that was making more. Someone remarked with the eyeroll tone of “here we go, another SJW...” really ? I just turned and told him he is a f’n idy-yot shrugged and went back to my non-attention to the meeting. There are some real striking inequities that still exist. Recently I saw the same conductor throw a POC off the train for not having a ticket under the the threat of calling the police while a few months ago he let a white woman get a pass and stay on the train. I guess it is to a matter of degree and how much people want to twist things. I think that the warnings about the shootings have some merit, not because it’s actually going to happen but because the thoughts that it may happen is real. If I were to tell you that someone shot up a movie theater or another school tomorrow, would you even blink? I’ve become desensitized due to the frequency of these events. Either way I’m headed to NYCC - work asked me to do some things for them while I am there - and then I will be around the place over the course of the weekend. At the earliest I won’t catch Joker until next weekend if that.
  11. As comic fans we have a different perspective of Batman than the general public. Comic fans have the ability to quote and reference eighty years of Batman publications with recent fans viewing Batman as a character of multiple layers and a character that is merely a few bad decisions away from being a character like the Joker. General moviegoers unfamiliar with the comics break it down with far more simplicity. Batman = good. Joker = bad. Once the public breaks that down, you can't have Batman without a villain. You also cannot have the Joker without a hero to stop him. That's how the general public is going to find themselves outside of their comfort zone. I want to stay clear of political nonsense so I am treading lightly here. With MANY topical issues today such as homelessness and violence, the question of mental health is brought into the forefront of the discussion. In the comic book world, the Joker is the poster boy for mental health issues. Without Batman, the sole focus is going to be on the Joker and his demons that drive him. This is why I said that the movie will have two reviews. There are the reviews that will come out now when you have a public that is struggling to find ways to address real world mental health issues. There are reviews that will come out in a few years or even decades from now when the public has fully digested what goes on in the world and has a different perspective. And again, I am speculating here. I could be wrong about this... right now though... ?
  12. In all honesty I don't answer that question and I do not counter lowball offers.
  13. No idea to be honest... I just went looking and could not find anything.
  14. For some lines maybe. I could definitely see that. I think it depended on how popular the line is and what they thought would move quickest. I’m curious for someone to ask. Two of the GI Joe creators are on the Facebook collecting group. One guy I’m not a fan of and he would have the answer so maybe someone else could ask Kirk Bozigian.
  15. I bought the barge and it’s still on the bed in the spare guest room in the basement. to me though... I’ve said all I can... I don’t look at this as a $575 item especially since it’s not a licensed property but an in house property. Now I want it to fail just to see how Hasbro handles it so I know what to expect moving forward. I backed Cookie Monster and it was flat out cancelled when it didn’t meet the goal. Unicorn didn’t meet the goal so they pushed the deadline back. Now we are four days away to see whether they cancel it, push the deadline back further, issue it as is or raise the price to produce it for those that backed it. I bear no hate toward Unicron. It’s an easy pass for me but I know it’s a priceless lifelong dream for others. Part of me wants those that really want this to get it. However, I really have some morbid curiosity to see how this handled by Hasbro.
  16. As I removed you from block and freely receive notifications when you respond you should be able to send PMs. That should not be a problem. I blocked you well before your particular disagreement with Hollywood (I assume it is he who you speak of.) I’ve said it now twice. You continue to believe what you want though which is why I put you on block to begin with. you can take it to Pm if you want. You should not have been blocked from doing so unless I do not understand how the system works which is very possible as well.
  17. Contrary to belief this is not elementary school. Unless you have committed a grievous wrong on someone I do not care what your argument is toward people you squabble with. They are adults and they should be able to deal with it in the manner they see fit. Years ago two people here that I got along with rather well at the time had a spat. As far as I was concerned that was between them and they could work it out despite both of them wanting me to agree with their perspective. Again, I don’t care who you don’t get along with. That is between you and them. I block (ed) you based on you and my perception of your overall behavior.
  18. I recently took you off ignore this weekend to see if I was wrong when you replied to the Mario Kart thread. I put you on ignore months ago and by my own volition regarding your ranting and raving on certain things and your overall demeanor. From your comments over the last weekend I can see I was not entirely wrong to put you on ignore to begin with.
  19. Snake Eyes Version III It combined some of the cooler parts of Version 1 and Version 2. Fans never seemed to fully embrace it since Version 2 became the 'classic' version. It was only briefly used in the comics until they shifted to additional designs before reverting back to Version 2 in the modern era in the IDW books.
  20. I have seen reviews for this movie and speculation about its performance from multiple sources and angles. Here is my take, I think that no matter what it is going to strike a nerve with some. Some will embrace it and some will run from it as it will strike too close to home. I am curious about this movie because if I am right, it will have one type of review upon release and a revisited review at some point in the future much like the Shawshank Redemption experienced. Now I am not comparing it to Shawshank Redemption as far as how good Joker is. I am simply saying that some movies are reviewed in one light upon release and then reviewed under a different light after the public has thoroughly digested it.
