  1. And I'm sure that the state of New York wouldn't have a problem charging you the higher sales tax on the shilled amount. It wouldn't just be New Yorkers that would be at a disadvantage, as everyone bidding on the lot is on the same playing field. States have to respect the state laws of other states. This is why you don't need 50 driver's licenses and 50 different marriage licenses. I understand the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution. Article 4, Section 1 if I remember correctly. However... Yes and No... When Cuomo was AG - He went after Ticketmaster and the Miami Dolphins for instituting policy that put New York State residents at a disadvantage. While not exact in nature, the argument could be built that the current policies put certain states at a disadvantage to others by limiting purchasing power. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/2008-01-03-2902623599_x.htm Ticketmaster and the Miami Dolphins aren't states, so policies they introduce wouldn't be treated in the same way that a Texas state law would. You could also argue that the unusually high state sales tax charged by NY puts its citizens at a disadvantage by limiting their purchasing power too. Oh I know they are not states but I am throwing the argument out there as a means of discussion.
  2. Was watching that one on HA last nite...niiize! +1 HA had some nice spiders in the 9.0-9.4 range last night that all seemed to go pretty cheap. I would have loved to grab 2-3 more but just have too much going on this month to be grabbing a bunch of Spideys Thanks... Heritage is more miss than hit for me as they charge tax on order going into NY. WIth buyers premiums combined with tax it is hard to get anything even on average price. Most of my winnings come from eBay, CLink and the boards. Sometimes this even affects my buying through Metropolis. Why pay more? +1 It REALLY sucks when you just happen to be one of the unlucky putzes that lives in the home state of whatever auction house and get banged out for the sales tax Yep, living in Texas and bidding through Heritage means their buyer's premium plus another bite for sales tax. No fun. Add to that, shill bidding being legal in Texas Triple whammy Really? What is the justification for that? You may want to read this carefully http://texasauctioneer.blogspot.co.uk/2010/10/auction-shills-cappers-puffers-reserves.html and then this, http://www.originalprop.com/blog/2009/10/27/heritage-auction-galleries-lawsuit-in-the-news-claims-of-fake-bidder-n-p-gresham-auction-manipulation/ it's certainly food for thought. Of course my argument to my States Attorney General would be that if we are saying that Heritage is also based in NY hence various auctions that they run here in NY and the fact that all purchases through Heritage are subject to NYS Sales tax then why am I being subjected (victim) to Texas auction rules that place NY's at an unfair position? I am not a fan of shill bidding. If you have a reserve then simply start the auction at the minimum that you are willing to let it go for from the beginning. As I said though. Heritage is more miss than hit and my bidding through them is becoming more and more rare these days as I go after pricier books.

  6. Figured I would put it here as well... Placed orders for the following: Amazing Spider-man 24 - 9.0 Amazing Spider-man 32 - 8.0 Amazing Spider-man 40 - 8.0 Amazing Spider-man Annual 2 - 7.5 Amazing Spider-man Annual 6 - 9.0 And upgraded my ASM 39 7.0 to this in an unexpected win. Only one more book to go (Amazing Spider-man Annual 1) I have quite a few eBay dollars to spend so I will look into that in a week or two.
  7. In addition to: Amazing Spider-man 24 - 9.0 Amazing Spider-man 32 - 8.0 Amazing Spider-man 40 - 8.0 Amazing Spider-man Annual 2 - 7.5 Amazing Spider-man Annual 6 - 9.0 Just got back from picking up friends from the airport and found out I won this... unexpected expense but cool and a nice upgrade from my 7.0.
  8. Don't have pictures yet... but... Amazing Spider-man 24 - 9.0 Amazing Spider-man 32 - 8.0 Amazing Spider-man 40 - 8.0 Amazing Spider-man Annual 2 - 7.5 Amazing Spider-man Annual 6 - 9.0 This leaves one book remaining... Annual #1 and then "fini"
  9. I'm not making an accusation, but something seems a bit off if you look at the number of bids and the low feedback numbers those bidders have. Not too long ago I sold a 9.6 OW/W for $350 and less than 2 weeks after that someone sold a 9.6 W for $250. I can't believe the Thanos fever has gotten even hotter then since right after the Avengers movie I will agree that something appears a bit "off" on the bidding history on that one.
  10. I hope to get on your level someday!! No you don't - if I won it meant I was going to be doing nothing but eBay sales for three months to replace the money out of my savings account along with not buying anything for the rest of the year. I would probably wind up selling one of my other copies as well.
  11. I bid a bit over $17000 on the AF15 in 6.0 Didn't expect to win... but my heart pitter pattered when I was winning with less than a minute to go..
  12. In other news - I took the Amazing Spider-man #13 5.5 on eBay tonight as well as the Amazing Spidey Annual 3 8.0 and 5 in a 9.2 over at Heritage. 7 books to go.
  13. So he just relisted a book he does not have in hand yet. It is the same copy just won from SparkleCity. I will offer my losing bid. I looked at both copies before I posted the link and they are the same. It does not show up in your link but it does show up when you do a search. The seller is reputable. He may have purchased it as inventory with the possibility to make $500 off the book. However, annoying that he does not have it in hand. I have done business with them so I will not call them out on it. I would like to continue doing business with them as I still need a few more books.

  15. I can't argue against the insanity, but here's some other hammer prices on ASMs in 9.9 from this year: #239 3,501 (ComicLink) #275 1,351 (ComicLink) #298 1,532 (ComicLink) #300 6,101 (ComicLink) #312 825 (eBay) #319 1,226 (eBay) #323 1,136 (eBay) Well here is where the debate starts... I paid $60 for a copy of Amazing Spider-man 303 in a 9.8 earlier this year. Is a 9.9 of that copy really worth about $800-1000 more? How about an ASM #252 at CGC 9.8 for about $250. There are quite a few on eBay right now at this price. Is a 9.9 really worth $5,400 more? Apparently it was worth it to the buyer. But why not buy an AF #15 instead? Ah well, shan't hate on those uber-HG Spidey collectors. To each his/her own. I agree with you on that point However, I am still trying to figure out the exponential curve on a 9.8 to a 9.9 in relation to a 9.0 to a 9.2 or a 9.6 to a 9.8.

  17. Secret Wars 8 came out 7 months after Amazing Spider-man 252 allowing readers six months to realize how cool the black costume was? Many more were saved?

  19. Thank you... I actually like the looks of that 5.0. It is on my radar. It would be on mine, too, but the rust on the staples has migrated to the cover, so I'll pass. Didn't notice that... Thanks for pointing out. I briefly looked for it in the catalog and was pleased it did not have the foxing that the 6.5 copy had.
  20. Between Heritage and Sparklecity auctions closing on Sundays, it looks like it I want to actually sell my under-copies of my books that I should allow my auctions to end on Saturday... Too many auctions are closing on Sundays these days to remain competitive.
  21. Thank you... I actually like the looks of that 5.0. It is on my radar.
  22. Sparklecity is now carrying books by reputation... check out X-Men 142 in a 9.8. Sparklecity's copy is currently at just above $200. Another seller has a BIN at around $175 that also includes free shipping that is just sitting there.
  23. I actually read it this afternoon... Interesting twist on Victor Fries...
  24. I bid on that up until the end. I refused to go higher than $2000 (I went $1985 just to see if the guy before was going higher than $2000) on that. I will take a slightly lower grade when the time comes. On to other things...
  25. Book I am VERY interested in... but I may hold off as I have my eye on a whale... Or I may say to heck with it and try and take both home.
