  1. Didn't do well at the VCC this weekend so I went up north to a small comic show in a school cafeteria. Brought back two long boxes of comics some old board games and even a Bionic Woman doll. I also got a late 70's child's Spiderman raincoat. There were some tpb's I got - An unopened box of prism Silver Surfer cards for $5.00 I got a bunch of Batman 52 comics for $1.00 each and some books I needed for my lists. These next books I got for between 50 cents and $1.00 each regardless of sticker price. Got this for $5.00
  2. I agree about the store. Been there, tried it, and bought the t-shirt. Of all the years I have been doing this 90% has been swapmeet and internet. Even just in these my networking has helped a lot.
  3. Bought a comic off of Brent. Shipped quickly and securely. Thanks.
  4. Wow, you got a better seller on both ends. I sent a message and said, "Also, you should know, comic collectors are pretty particular about condition on their books, and if you continue to sell comics and ship them like you did this one, you are likely to get complaints and returns. I understand it was free shipping, and did not sell for much [i was the only bidder, so I won at the minimum bid of $5], but at a minimum there should be a piece of stiff cardboard on either side of the book to hold it rigid - just the book in a bag and board inside a thin envelope provides zero protection." The response I got was, "Glad you received your purchase without any damage. Its amusing that a serious comic book collector would purchase a $5.00 comic with free shipping without considering the extra cost of better packaging or insurance." Just for perspective, it cost $1.93 for shipping, and I regularly mail envelopes with cardboard packaging for $2.25. You are right about collectibles maintaining there condition through shipment. I have actually lost money on shipping before to make sure that the package is well secured. My eBay feedback reflects this by my buyer's statements. To me, it is more important to keep customers happy so they return.
  5. Just a fantastic packing job. And they'll get pissy if you leave anything less than 5 stars. Sad. You are correct. I have even tried to explain that to some sellers and they still don't get it. They think the little they do is a stellar job. I got shipped a few comics, one time, sandwiched between cardboard from a cereal box and cardboard from, what it looked like, the lid of a shoe box. For the life of me I couldn't get her to understand that was not good. What I do, if I have a bunch of thin cardboard, is glue them together in layers with Elmers glue and have them under a press until they dry. Makes them nice and sturdy. People can do better, but they choose not to.
  6. I bought a food scale at Walmart which is much cheaper than a mail scale. Also, I greatly agree with this. I have been selling comic books since the mid 80s and have made contacts and a reputation from Olympia, WA to Seattle, WA and I live in Tacoma area. I have made friends with small show promoters and vendors. Your reputation is a must in this and you will find that they are an invaluable asset. I also sold at the local swapmeet since the the mid 80's until the mid 2000's and I still meet people when I go places, like the supermarket, who remember me. I will go so far to add that it is hard to do this alone. I have made customers, gotten product, and even supplies at a better rate, and sometimes free, than going out buying it retail. I had one show owner who used to let me help him bring his product inside the show and that got me to be able to do all of my shopping before the doors opened. I have met so many shop owners who refuse to take good business advice. It's like they think their way is the only way. I always try to be easily entreated and welcome all advice and I even seek it out. For my business and brick and mortar store I would comb the internet and even visit other shops for good ideas. Great thread!
  7. I know this isn't a comic book, but a lot of comic book stores are subsidizing their customer base by adding these to their store models. When I owned a gaming store I found it to be very expensive to purchase terrain to field the gaming tables. Now, even though I no longer own a store, my teenage son likes to play and it is time well spent. I began researching how to make my own terrain and have even sold some of them. I have experimented with multiples was on doing this with multiple ingredients. I will post some of the finished product. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 8. This is pretty cool. I have this one and a few others of these UK annuals. I get them whenever I can find them. Sometimes I pop over to the UK eBay and pick some up there.
  9. Yea, I have been wanting this, but has been out of my reach. For now I am settling for the TPB. Huntress and her original story line has always been a favorite of mine. I like how she would call earth one Batman Uncle Bruce.
  10. I think he is doing a remarkable job. At first I didn't think he would as I don't have any feelings for this character, but I like good acting. As a matter of fact, I doubted the whole show and didn't watch it until it was already on a couple months. I went and watched them back to back. I was impressed.
  11. Did he make a profit, when you add time spent? I don't know, but he must have thought it was to have bought it.
  12. About 10 or so years ago a major seller on eBay sold a lot of 1,000,000 comic books. Another eBay seller bought it all and there was a lot of drek in there. What the buyer did was sell the books in lots and as much as I saw he sold every thing.
  13. Interesting, in the 1990's, when I used to sell at the local fleamarket, I had a female customer who was thrilled to be buying comics from me, but her husband/boyfriend couldn't stand comic books.
  14. I agree. To do anything less is not satisfying the buyer's expectations brought about by the seller's TOS. The reason many people buy things is because of what is advertised and there will be dissatisfaction when they don't get what they paid for. It really speaks of a seller when they expect the buyer to accept less than what they were buying. What speaks in great positive volumes of a seller is when they have no problem immediately make the buyer whole when problems arise. Customer service is what keeps buyers coming back.
  15. Nobody in the Tacoma area sells carries this book. I don't buy weekly books and had to open a file at one Tacoma store just to order this book and "Weird Love" which are reprints of old weird love stories from same company.
  16. Please forgive me if these have already been listed, but haunted Horror is seeing some action. Some sellers are getting $25+ for $1. I'm glad I have the full run. Hunted Horror #1 on eBay Haunted Horror #1 on eBay Haunted Horror #1 on eBay Haunted Horror #1 on eBay
  17. Got both of these in the mail today. Thanks to Shark for the JQ slab.
  18. I finally got the last four Crime Suspenstories I need for this set. I can't wait to read them.
  19. I have had the luxury of being on the receiving end of that. I just can't bring myself to be a jerk to anybody, especially someone I don't even know.
  20. I mainly collect graphic novels, trades, and fanzines. These are the recent books i got at a lot less than average going price. I have been searching a long time for the Avengers vol. 1. I found the Planet Comics at Half Price Books for $8.00 and the Witches Tales Volume One for half of cover price. All are HC. For me this was a good haul.
