  1. Finishing Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson (finally...) and slowly going through The Brewmaster's Table by Garrett Oliver. Up next I have Brewing Up a Business by Sam Calgione (plus an entire shelf more...I was hooked on swap.com before they changed the format... :( )

    I am not on Swap.com but am on PaperBackSwap.com. I just looked up Swap.com and ... yuck ... you have to be paired to swap? :P On PaperBackSwap.com, once you mail something away, you earn credit and then can redeem with anyone which is a heck of a lot better ... and no fee to the site either.

    What was the format change that you didn't like?

    Cryptonomicon was a one heck of a read but I couldn't get into his Baroque cycle :shrug:

    Originally it was completely free and there were no regulations other than make sure you send the book in a timely fashion and then give feedback. Now they charge a fee per swap plus they now require tracking or possible retribution from swapper and site which tries to make the members use their site-generated shipping labels, which miscalculate shipping costs and incurr a monthly service fee :P

    I'm going to check out paperbackswap, thanks! ;)

    Yeah, couldn't get into Baroque the first time I picked it up...but the same was true for Cryptonomicon and I love it so far (about a chapter or so to go...)!

  2. If a comic is sent in for ReHoldering and damage is discovered inside the case the submitter would be contacted and the book would be regraded. Graded comics can still become damaged from mishandling and should be treated/shipped with care similar to ungraded comics.

  3. Yes, you would need to write in "Review" in the "Other" field on the PDF or paper submission form. If you are using the step-by-step online form you just want to pick the tier that would be appropriate for the value of your comic and then write Review on the invoice near the Service Type.

    All of our services are based on value, so you want to use the "Maximum Value" column on the site to determine which tier is appropriate. Reviews do not have a specified turnaround time, so the turnaround is not applicable.

    If you supply a credit card, which is preferred, CGC will assess the fee once the review has been performed. In some cases there is no change to the comic and the charge would just be for a ReHolder, so it is easiest if you provide this method of payment.

  4. At this time the pricing for on-site grading is as follows:

    * Modern (Comics 1980-present valued $200 or less) - $24

    * Economy (Comics valued $300 or less) - $45

    * Standard (Comics valued $1,000 or less) - $75

    * Express (Comics valued $3,000 or less) - $125

    * WalkThru (Comics any value) – min $150 max $1,500 2.5% FMV

    The books are guaranteed to be completed by the end of the convention.

  5. You would submit the book for a "Review" and specify what the book is being reviewed for (grade, page quality, pedigree, etc.). This service is normally charged as one tier below the declared value of the book.

  6. This is an occasional effect produced by the inner and outer cases being in direct contact with one another. The visual effect is similar to oil on a water puddle because of the two plastics. If you gently seperate the two pieces or insert a piece of paper in the side of the case, this should remove this effect. Ultimately it is not anything that is in direct contact with your comic, nor will it affect the comic's condition over time.

  7. The case and comic will be inspected for damage, but the book will not be reconsidered for grading unless damage has occurred. (for example, if the book is dropped and the case shatters in one corner it is possible that the corner of the book could have suffered damage, so that is what is checked for) If this is the case we would contact you.

  8. :news:

    It has been brought to our attention that the Larry's Comics Edition of The Art of Chew were not labeled as variants, but rather a note was made in the Art Comments section. These books will now be labeled as a variant (which will also allow me to create a separate slot for them, as requested). If you have a Larry's Comics Edition that is not labeled as a variant, we ask that you submit it with your next CGC submission, listed on a ReHolder submission form (for tracking purposes) with a clear note stating the mislabeling of the comic. We will relabel all of them at no additional charge.

    Thank you! :foryou:
