I hadn't been to a con in a while. Do you think this is a result of conventions losing major sponsors? I didn't see any of the normal companies I'd expect from previous years. I just don't see what the benefit is for the convention if the premise of the app is to get stuff from the convention without going to the convention.

Its really weird to go to a convention where Whatapp is there, where there is a convention variant that the convention is selling and has limited to 2 per person on the first day and 1 per person on every other day only to walk over to the whatapp booth and see multiple people live streaming from that show bragging about having 20 to 30 copies of that book. One guy was even saying "I BROUGHT THE FIRE". And these whatsap guys are being paid and flown to these conventions? What is the point in regular local people even going if all the "fire" is sold out and you have to go to some stupid app to buy them? How does this help attendance? I don't get it.

Marvel is still doing covers with Black Flag? Ok Marvel are just as guilty as everyone else. You can't say Marvel isn't ok with this and has less culpability than CGC if they're still doing business with these guys.

Also, why does CGC have a lawyer on retainer that is specialized in "free speech" law?

It was really weird when the CGC lawyer came on the boards and posted about that lawsuit and kind of solidified how close CGC works with certain auction houses.

When was the last time Crain worked for Marvel? There is a reason he's been on a road tour for three years. Marvel now regards him as a retailer.

It is not the CEO it is the guy who runs the comic division.

Marvel is selling the book to the retailer for $3.99 minus their retailer discount. The creative team has never received a cut from anything but that original number.

Depends on the artist but IMO a five minute sketch from a guy with the resume of Crain is too much.

No. When you sign up to do a retailer variant cover with Marvel (or any publisher that has any marketshare) you have to sign a contract. The contact says you can't use the artwork that they paid for (yes Marvel paid Crain for the original cover) in any other way than its intended. I'm not lawyer but I can guarantee you that Marvel is washing their hands with Black Flag and they could very possibly lose their diamond / Penguin account. Do you expect Marvel to put out a statement about these books? I do not.

Prices on those have been going up the past few months. I am assuming someone is pushing "THIS IS A LOW PRINT RUN COVER BY THE NEXT PEACH MOMOKO" or some nonsense. Its very weird but I'll take it.
