  1. Today's books. Let's start with the Warren. RIP Eerie:
  2. Now I’m trying to remember what the one book I ever bought that I did have to throw out because of the smell was… I know I kept it bagged and waited until I got a replacement before actually dumping it.
  3. At that price it might even depend on how badly it smells of cat pee.
  4. I think we should go for it even if there are only three of us to start; I bet we get more participation once it actually begins
  5. George Evans seems to get forgotten compared to a lot of the other EC creators, but he really was spectacular.
  6. What is baffling me is the "Marvel Digest Series" with a title still owned by DC at that point, as far as I know.
  7. I think the extra pages idea only made sense on the first five issues, where they actually had Cockrum doing the new material as well. Still well worth grabbing for the back-up stories, in my opinion.
  8. And if that happened, I could see somebody preferring the Yellow logo over the White, since the story is printed better in that version. (I know I deliberately got a yellow logo copy for that reason.) I'm just waiting for a seller to claim that Crime Suspenstories #26 should be considered the first appearance of the story because of the cover. On a side note, I really should grab a Crime Suspenstories #26 before it goes crazy like so many other EC's are these days...
  9. I'm really closing in on the Marvel Magazines from the 70's; I think with the exception of Crazy I only need about 30 of the comic magazines still. That doesn't include non-comic mags like Monsters of the Movies or oddballs like Tommy, all of which I'm missing other than the digest Haunt of Horrors. And in the case of Savage Sword I'm specifically referring to the 70's issues; my collection from the 80's is swiss cheese. Anyway, here's today's addition to the collection:
  10. I remember when that used to be considered the same value as the 22 in Overstreet because they were both in the senate hearings. While I don’t think they should be equal I think this issue has been unfairly left behind as the 22 skyrocketed.
  11. That’s a jaw-dropper to be sure. But to a certain degree I think it’s overdue… “Master Race” is one of the very few serious candidates for the title of best comic stories ever, and the book has been vastly underrated for decades. With that said, I think the jump to four figures for a mid-grade copy is probably too much too fast and we may not see another in that range for a few more years.
  12. That's a hard one. It appears that most of the famous print errors have been removed from the GCD- I don't see Sandman #1, Venom: Lethal Protector #1 (black cover), or Fantastic Four #110 up there. But I think all of those SHOULD be up there, as well documented and sought out print errors. But as others have said, drawing the line can be tricky. https://www.comics.org/issue/978442/cover/4/ Meanwhile, here is a book with three variations, entirely based on where "SEPT." shows up on the cover. I think that that is a far, far lesser distinction than any of the covers I mentioned, and at most on the level of the missing color on the FF 119. But since it apparently required a change to the plates, it counts as a variant. I feel like there should be a way to clearly articulate where the line is, but nothing comes to mind.
  13. Mark Evanier is reporting James Bama has passed away. https://www.newsfromme.com/2022/04/24/james-bama-r-i-p/ He's probably best known for his Doc Savage covers, but he did the covers for at least a few pulps as some of his earliest work. These are the three the ISFDB credits to him, all three are from my personal collection... I didn't know until just now that I the AFR 15 and the 10 Story Fantasy were his.
  14. This thread is more for discussing sales that have happened. Suggestions for a clearer thread title welcome. Announcements about sales go over here: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/474900-pulp-sellingtrading-thread-only/
  15. I was going to suggest that was a bit unfair, but then I remembered why I unsubscribed from the GCD mailing lists despite being a top 100 indexer at the time. (I’ve dropped to 142nd place since then, I still regularly contribute. Just not nearly as much.) With that said, I would have left the error scan there… it’s common enough that people will be looking for it.
  16. That's the one I had as a kid, would love to find a copy again. It's hilarious seeing the inside cover ads for Superman, Star Trek, and the Six Million Dollar Man on the inside cover. That's FOUR publishers in one book... DC, Gold Key, Charlton, and of course Marvel as the actual feature.
  17. Congratulations! I would actually say the cover is quite memorable... it's just that all the reasons it's memorable are bad ones!
  18. I've seen covers that look like they have a little bit of a different cover on them in the past, not necessarily a ASM 124. But it's not that uncommon on books from the 70's and earlier in my experience. I don't know the exact details on printing to explain it, other than they're printing different books at the same time.
  19. Grabbed at my local store today. While neither is a 9.8 candidate by a mile, they're both dramatically better than my previous copies:
  20. Found at a local store today; the last volume (III) I needed. First printing, even! Now I need to decide if I want to go back next paycheck and grab the 1st printing of II; my copy of that is a 2nd.
  21. You keep using that word, CGC 9.4. I do not think it means what you think it means.
  22. Welcome to the club... it looks like your seat isn't that far from mine:
  23. Today's Mail Call. Another (short) Marvel Magazine run completed:
  24. Allow me to apologize if I went overboard on the discussion; I just sometimes get excessively focused on stuff like this. You are quite right that it's more work than it's worth. The only reason I was concerned on the Vampi Annual is that it's the only Warren Annual with a new story; but even then it's set on Draculon, rather than between the issues it shipped between.
  25. Today's magazine pickup. Not a spectacular copy, but it finishes the run:
