OtherEric got a reaction from pmpknface in I'll pound you to a "Pulp" if you don't show off yours!
Two books in this week. I already have the Nov-Dec 47 issue, but the price was too good to miss. I know someone who will appreciate it as a Christmas gift.

Here’s an oddity I’ve had for a long time, never sure what to do with it. Only a double cover, but the outside is newsstand and the inside is direct:

OtherEric got a reaction from ADAMANTIUM in Canadian Mark Jewelers Copy
I have no idea. While I suspect I own several more, the only Mark Jeweler issue I know I have for sure is Logan's Run #6, and I only know that because I ran across the issue in storage a few weeks ago. BUT, if somebody had the 75c version, it would give us some info, one way or another. I'm also curious if the 75c MJ version exists at all; I'm not clear on how completely documented every possible issue having the variant is.

A quick oddball question: Does anybody have this issue with a 75c price and the insert? That would seem to be the obvious question to ask at this point.

Pete Rice Magazine, Jul 1934
Cover by Walter Baumhofer
I just love these early Pete Rices with the Baumhofer covers. So much detail and emotion!

Interesting observation/question. Indeed, I think you're right. I basically have all of the Picture Stories from the Bible issues, and quite a few of them (especially the "Complete" editions) don't have a cover logo of any brand...I think those books spanned the "DC branding era," the "All-American branding era" and the "EC era." I can't think of any other books from the era that are without one of the logos (i.e., the Big All-American and Picture Stories are the only examples I can think of).

OtherEric reacted to batman_fan in What else do you collect??
I also just started collecting 1950s and 1960s Peanuts strips original artwork. So far I just have three but I hope to continue adding to it.

I have posted before but not sure if I did in this thread. I collect Mars Attacks gum cards. I finished the set but I am trying to do some upgrading.

I need to track down this one for myself. All Sheldon Mayer issue.
More generally, what an awesome idea for a collection!

OtherEric reacted to 50YrsCollctngCmcs in Post your Pogos / Walt Kelly Books!
It's Thanksgiving and while I have much to be thankful for in the world of comics I'll just be thankful that I picked up this Voldemort graded File Copy of Animal Comics 22 on Comic Link for a pretty good price a few months back. I've been looking for the right time to crack this out of its clamshell for reading, and this morning was the day. I'm a big fan of these Racine file copies so I always like picking these up and while others may consider the stamp obtrusive, I find it adds to the history of the book. So let's get crackin', literally.
First, the book came out of the slab easily and it was nice to see it free again. It had been graded a 6.0 mostly due to the back cover pieces missing from the top of the cover from what I can tell. It presents nicer. The cover is by Kelly but does not have the panache of his Pogo covers; bet he didn't like Uncle Wiggly!
The first story is Uncle Wiggly; I've never been a big fan but maybe I'm missing something.
Then we get to some fun stuff like Pogo! The series is still called Albert and Pogo at this point. The dialogue is way beyond what one might find in a typical kid's book. I sure wish I were around when these came out as I bet they must have been a blast to read at the time fresh off the stands.
After that Dan Noonan has part of his serial tale of Rover. These are good stories and would be worth printing in a reprint volume by someone. This is a great example of why Dell comics are good comics!
Then I was surprised to see a feature by Morris Gollub I had never heard of called Sitara based in the Indian jungles; this will be interesting to read.
Next up is Elephunnies credited to Walt Kelly by GCD but this looks like John Stanley all the way to me.
Then on the back cover, we find Albert and Pogo wrapping things up.
Well I'm going to try to find a few minutes today or tomorrow to read it all but thought I would share in the meantime. I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy some comic time this long weekend!

Hard to go up against that beautiful run of Capt Satan...
I recently scored this cool one at a flea market. First issue, awesome shape, beautiful Bok cover and only a buck.
