Didn't it take quite a while before it became clear that these were Canadian? Not that that realization has reduced their values, so far as I know. No ads and black and white interiors meant it was likely that fandom would've picked up quite quickly on these books being Canadian...

Then again, it does vary from book to book. With some books, like Cap 74, the Canadian edition is as sought after as the U.S. version. And then there's the rare Weird Suspenstories books from E.C. which command very high prices...

Canadian versions of E.C.s go for less primarily because they are printed on inferior stock. Doubt that applies to all other publishers, however.

I remember buying a couple of "cleaned and pressed" books at Cons in the pre-CGC era. As I recall, the cover was no longer tight to the pages and didn't seem to go with those pages either (too bright, different feel, also pressed in a way that meant it was not flush at the side yet the overhang was too high). Solvent based cleaning is restoration as it alters the chemical makeup of the cover and/or pages - the book looks good, but is also artificial.

Awesome books. And even multi-millionaires would find it all but impossible to find such books in NM. They're so rare in that grade...

My understanding has been that the interior of the Pence books are exactly the same as the US versions. The only difference is the cover with the price variation. What other differences are there? Curious... There's the price variation and removal of the date. And at the bottom of the indicia it states "distributed in the U.K. by Thorpe And Porter". And that's it.

Just for the record in case anyone was wondering, jbcomicbox is not the consignor on these books. The thought did come across my mind for a few minutes there, but discounted it almost immediately after that. I figure the super big boys such as Jon, Veryzl, the Dentist, etc are really in there for the extreme long term and we won't be seeing any of their big books in the marketplace anytime in the foreseeable future. Indeed. It'd be a sign of the apocalypse (or at least a watershed in the market) if Verzyl decided to part with all the Church Timelys.

"UK Edition" describes what they are perfectly. -J. A "UK Edition" would have all UK advertising in it like many other UK comics that have American comic stories. These are "US Editions" that are priced for the UK. Yep. All the adverts inside the books were for the U.S. market only. The only difference between pence and cents was the distribution.
