  1. I used to buy copies of CBM at Gosh Comics in London back in the 90s. Like many other collectors, it had a huge influence on me, and introduced me to all the non-E.C. pre-code classic books, along with all the other GA rival publishers to the big two, such as Fox, MLJ, Quality, Nedor, Centaur, etc. Can't praise that mag enough. Eventually, on one of my regular trips over to the U.S., I bought a set of the first 25 issues at a Con. Still have the complete set which I reread occasionally.
  2. Well, I was planning on going for those MMCs and that Science, but holy God in heaven, those books are shooting up. The Wonderworld 12 has gone so far beyond GPA it's insane... And as for the Science 5...
  3. Some remarkable prices, it has to be said. That Marvel Tales 95 being just one example...
  4. Atlas provides 3 extra original images on their covers and all folks can do is complain. Haters gonna hate. What can you do? True enough. Maybe you can never have too much of a good thing.
  5. I was about to get indignant that my beloved Atlases were about to be dissed, but that is absurd.
  6. Some nifty covers on those Charlton romance books, and rarely seen.
  7. You bet your sweet patooty it does. I have the full run of that title, sans #3. On the few times it has become available on eBay it gets a huge bump. The last auction I saw there was for a coverless copy, for which I think I had bid 50 bucks, and still got outbid, and by more than one bidder. Gary Dolgoff currently has a 2.5 copy on eBay for $1500.
  8. Great book hard to find but conserved with cover clean married back cover and centerfold pieces added tear seal ? I'm sorry Hey thats great i was just saying. I would love to have that book and go fishing for G.A.tor. This was a project I have been working on for almost 2 years. I found the various pieces to this book form different places all over the country and had Kenny breathe life in to it. Its complete, and putting it together was one of the most satisfying adventures I've had in this hobby. I'd be happy to show you the before and after pictures if you are interested - it was really amazing work done to this book. Worth all the time and effort - what a book.
  9. Harvey were E.C. copyists, perhaps more than any other PCH publisher. I've read a fair amount of the stories, and some of them are pretty decent, but lacking E.C.'s edge. But then again, there were some pretty impressive covers...
  10. Maybe the Misfits reunion concerts in September is adding to the attraction... Not to mention that it's a rough black cover and one of the more sought after covers in the run. Can't justify the price for all lower grade copies but maybe this was a case of two or more collectors just wanting it badly! I don't think so. This VG copy on HA just sold for $478 including BP: http://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/horror/chamber-of-chills-19-harvey-1953-condition-vg-/a/121629-13279.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013 I'd say the Ebay buyer overpaid. I wouldn't say, judging from the scan, that that was a VG copy.
  11. This thread is rapidly becoming the business.
  12. 8, 15 and 30 would be in my top five for that title, with 12 and 26.
  13. Yeah, that's pretty unreal. It's a tough book, but not THAT tough. Then again, nothing should surprise me anymore with the market the way it is. Anything I'm interested in on Heritage in their Sunday auctions goes for above GPA, sometimes way above.
  14. Awsome pair!!! Just magnificent. I've got a #4 (a Gerber cover book) but no #5 (the tougher book). Great copies of both.
  15. $2,950 Wow, glad I was able to grab the one recently sold at HA. It must have been a long period of extended bidding I am thinking. Actually no. The bidding exploded after I put in my slightly more modest bid - and it got to the closing amount before any extended bidding. I get the impression that this book may be one of those things that I regret not picking up years ago.
  16. 3 books that are hard enough to find, let alone in such nice shape. Never see the Phantom Stranger 2 in high grade.
  17. Been after a copy of this book for some time, glad I finally nabbed this one. Such a bizarre, over the top cover. Shores matches Schomburg...
  18. As with all things comics, it's only temporary.
  19. No question about that. And #6 is the scarcest. Although you never see #7 in anything above 5.0.
