  1. This reminds me of a question I've always wondered about. Let's say the Hulk 181 is near mint except the stamp is cut out. How do you grade it? Is it a qualified nm? Is it a fair/good? And what would you price it for? Half of a raw near mint? The good price? What would you do?
  2. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this recently, but what's up with Detective 501? eBay link $40 for a raw NM!!
  3. I'm not a collector of foreign comics, but a friend of mine went to Europe back in the late 80s- early 90s and brought this back from Denmark as a gift for me. I thought some of you might like to take a look. I don't know if any other foreign editions of Killing Joke have been posted ( sorry, I didn't have the time to go through all 259 pages of this thread). I translated the title and it reads "He who laughs last". Note the size difference compared to the US version.
  4. I got a question and didn't want to start a whole new thread to ask it, so I'm asking here. Let's say you have a comic that goes for $100 in CGC 9.6 and you have a raw 9.6 to sell. How do you determine what price to sell it for? Do you start it low as an auction as see where it goes? Do you check what other raw 9.6s have recently sold for and price it accordingly? Or do you use some sort of % multiplier? Thanks for your input.
  5. Thanks for the info Flying Donut. That helps a lot. The prices sellers are asking for this book are all over the place. I picked this book up along with some other comics. I think I paid $1.00 for it. So anything I can get for it will be a profit. Unfortunately it's only about a fine. Although the copy that sold for $90 looked to be around the same grade.
  6. Didn't want to start a separate thread, so thought I'd post here. I picked this up at a garage sale a few weeks ago. The inside says it's a Free Comic Book day edition, but it doesn't say Free Comic Book day on the cover and when I checked eBay, I couldn't find any FCBD versions that didn't say so on the cover. Any ideas what version this is? Thanks.
  7. I stumbled on a garage sale this weekend, literally, I was just driving looking for a way out of a neighborhood when I saw the sale. Didn't see any signs posted. As I pulled up I saw 4 long comic boxes. Nothing too spectacular. Mostly Marvels from 90s. I asked the price and the guy said $2.00 -$10.00. I probably would have got a long box worth if they had been 50 cents each. Instead I went through the 4 boxes and found about 13 comics that were worth buying. I got all of these for $25. Not as great a haul as some of the recent finds of others, but still a good deal I thought.
  8. I go garage saling almost every Saturday, but haven't been having much luck finding any comics for the past few months. Well my drought finally ended. I picked these up today. They're mostly low grade, but there's a few that are close to fine. In addition to these in the photos I also picked up a small stack of Archies, some Harvey Titles, and a few Charlton/Gold Key titles. There were over 100 comics in the lot I picked up. They are mainly late 1960s to early 1970s, but there a few older and a few later. I thought it was decent haul considering I paid less than 50 cents a book.
  9. Out of curiosity, where do you sell most of the stuff you purchase? Do you do comic shows? Have a store? Sell online? Also how do you manage to find so many large collections? It seems like 2-3 times a month you manage to acquire a large collection of goodies. Most of us are lucky to come across 1 decent collection in a year or more.
  10. Didn't want to start a whole new thread just for this question, so I thought I'd post here. I picked up these 2 wood posters at a discount dept store. Obviously the first one is the cover of Batman 232 by Neal Adams. My question is, can anyone tell me what comic the 2nd poster is of and who the artist is? Thanks. By the way if anyone is curious, the posters measure 19" x 13"
  11. The same day I found the Captain Marvels I went to another garage sale and picked up a full run of Lone Wolf and Cub 1-45 plus some extra copies of the title, Rai #s 1 and 2 in NM+, and Doc Savage Magazine #s 3 & 4, all for a grand total of $12.
  12. I saw a garage sale ad on CL that said it had 1970s comic books. I decided to check it out and see if there was anything good. It turned out the seller had 3 Famous First Editions. They all had water damage and were priced at $10 each, so I passed on them. Before I could leave the seller said he had some more comics inside the house and asked me to wait for him. When he came out he had a small stack of comics. I asked what he wanted for them. He of course asked me what I wanted to pay. I told him it would probably be less than what he wanted for them. There were 20 comics all in good condition. I didn't want to pay alot because of the condition so I told the seller I would be willing to pay $50. He then says "give me $40 and you got a deal". 1st time I've ever had a seller ask for less than what was offered. By the way, this comic was also in the stack.
  13. I found this at a Garage Sale about a year ago for a buck. 1st print hardcover, thought even if I sell it for 1/2 cover I'd make a decent profit. When I got it home and looked at it closer, I discovered this Ended up selling it on eBay for $125.
  14. The other problem you may encounter is a dealer who has a stack of submission forms, who doesn't use them in numerical order or doesn't send in books frequently. He could send in an invoice numbered 17511 in February, but not send Invoice# 17512 until December. Or worse yet, he may have an old invoice from a couple years ago that he decides to send in.
  15. The one thing no one seems to have mentioned or thought about is that the Nic Cage auction is a joint auction between Heritage and The Mint. Does it say anywhere that Heritage has possesion of all his comics? Wouldn't The Mint have half of his collection? By the way Mudbuddha, would you know if there is a way to search the Heritage site for just the Cage collection?
