  1. I have no problem doing BIN for a book with lots of sales history. But if i have a book where I can't find a single sale (which I do), I don't want to risk undercutting potential $$. I would hate to put something for $100 BIN and then have the same item sell a month later for $500 or more. In the same vain I don't want to put something up for $500 and have it sit for months not selling.
  2. OK I screwed up and listed this topic twice. How do I delete this one?
  3. What is the best day of the week for an eBay auction to end? A question to the members who sell comics on eBay. When you list your comics in an auction format, what day of the week to you try to have your auctions end? I sell quite a few comics on eBay, but I only do But It Now. I have a rare item that I want to list on eBay, but I can't find a sale either current or completed. So I don't have any idea what it may be worth. The item is a Goon #1 preview that was handed out at the 1998 San Diego Expo. I figured I would put it up for auction and see where it goes, but I want it to end at an ideal time. So what day and time of the week have you found is a good time to end?

  5. Does anyone have a saved image of the Hulk book referred to in this thread? A lot of talk about how bad it is, but since it's from 3 years ago, the eBay photo is deleted.
  6. My local Walmart, which isn't a Super-Walmart carries the Rebirth 3-packs.
  7. Steve Rude and Mike Baron. I remember back in the early-mid 1980s, I was at the San Diego Comic-Con and I was at Steve Rude's table getting a sketch. I had him sign my copy of Nexus #1 Black & White and I had asked if he knew where Mike Baron was (I didn't know what he looked like at the time). He said he was wandering around so I went back to watching him draw my sketch. Suddenly someone came up and started talking to Steve and sounding like he was a pro instead of a fan. I looked at his badge and saw the name Mike ( no last name). I assumed it must be Mike Baron and asked him to sign my Nexus #1. He looked at me kinda funny and asked "are you sure you want me to sign this? I'm not Mike Baron, I'm Mike Royer". Needless to say I was a little embarrassed. To finish this story, Mike Baron did eventually show up. When he did he was very excited and geeking out. He had just run into David Carradine, who was walking around the dealers room, and was obviously a big fan.
  8. On the Arrow TV show they cover it both ways. The people of Nanda Parbat (the home of Ra's Al Ghul) pronounce it Raish, while Green Arrow and the gang all refer to him as Roz al Gool.
  9. What i hate is when you put a comic up for auction and it gets bid up pretty good and the hi bidder has really good feedback and then at the last second of the auction some low or zero feedback guy comes in and outbids the other guy. And what happens probably 90% of the time when this occurs is you never hear from the hi bidder. So you have to wait 7 days before you can make a non-bidder claim. But by this time even if you offer it to the runner up, they usually aren't interested anymore or think you had a shill try to bid them up and pass on the book. Then when you go and relist it, the book ends up selling for a lot less than what the under bidder would have paid for it. When this happens you just want to reach through your computer and strangle the insufficiently_thoughtful_person who didn't pay originally for costing you a chunk of money.
  10. If the page you want colored is from a published comic book, I would not have it colored. If you are adamant about having it colored I would get a copy printed and have Neal color the copy. If the art you have is a commissioned sketch then by all means have him color it. Back in the 1980s I used to buy original art and get sketches by various artists. Comic book colorist Steve Oliff used to attend the San Diego Comic-Con every year and i would have him color my con sketches because for me they looked better colored. I saw a few pages of original comic book art that the buyers had Steve color, and while it looked nice and he did a great job, that particular page would no longer be in the original condition that came off the artist's drawing board and was used to publish the comic book. I would almost liken it to an original page being destroyed in a fire or some such and the only thing left from it was a copy of the page. This says nothing to the difference in resale value.
  11. I wish I still had the original art I bought back in the 1980s and sold in the 1980s. The Adams cover to Adventure 376, the Garcia-Lopez cover to Batman 353, The Miller splash to Wolverine mini-series 2,the Byrne cover to Captain America 254 among others.
  12. Technically consider orange back. Series 1. Series 2 on all had different backs. I know the bat symbol can come in different colors as well. There were 3 sets of painted Batman cards by Topps in 1966. The 1st set has the black Bat symbol on the front. These are numbered 1-55. Next set has a red Bat symbol on the front and are numbered 1a-44a. The last set has a blue Bat symbol on the front and are numbered 1b-44b. There are also 2 sets of photo cards from the TV series. The painted cards are valued based on condition, just like comics. If they're in nice shape with no creases or rounded corners, you might get $1-2$ apiece for them. The 1st card #1 (which you have) and the last card or checklist card are going to be worth more, maybe $5-$10 depending on how nice it is. Possibly some middle numbered cards might go for a little more than $1-$2 if they have cool or classic images. By the way if I'm not mistaken the art for the painted series was done by Norm Saunders.
  13. My pet peeve are the sellers who don't put a grade and just say "high grade" or "look at the pics and judge for yourself". This is fine if you're trying to tell if a book is a vg or a vf, but what if you want to know if a book is a 9.2, 9.4 or 9.6. Even with high res scans, they don't always pick up a small imperfection that can knock a book down. When I sell a book and grade it a 9.2 but the scan makes it look like a 9.4/9.6, this let's the buyer know there is a small spine tick or something keeping the book from grading higher.
  14. Hey didn't want to start a whole new thread so I thought I'd ask this question here. I was looking at the CGC graded copies of the Batman Adventures Mad Love and noticed the Prestige format version is selling for nearly as much as the 1st print regular edition. Why is this. Mad Love Prestige I know this copy had a best offer accepted. I looked it up and it still sold for $300. Also on the CGC label it has the date of 2/94 which is the published date of the 1st print, but the prestige format did not come out at the same time as the regular version. If you look on the cover, Bruce Timm's signature shows '95, so this version came out at least a year after the 1st printing came out.
  15. I always give a grade with large scans of front and back cover. I try to grade as accurately as I can, but when you get in the mid grades (vg/f to vf-) It can get very subjective. I give a grade so the buyer can get an idea of how I grade. If they buy a book and are happy with the grade, hopefully they'll come back for more. I don't like sellers that just say look at the scans, because i have scanned several books that I have graded vf/nm or nm- but they look nm in the scan. If I give a grade of nm- then the buyer knows there's a minute flaw that keeps it from being a nm so they won't be surprised when they receive the book and find a small stress line that didn't show up in the scan. I've also seen several sellers give a grade of nm and you can see obvious flaws in the scans. This will let you know not to trust the grades given.
  16. Here's a couple to add to your list: Hero Comics 2011 Lady Rawhide #3 (the special edition is the same cover as Zorro 3) Legion of Super-Heroes Archives vol.4 Maze Agency #3 Calibre Maze Agency TPB Vampirella Pin-Up Special #1 Vampirella Death & Destruction #2 Vampirella/Shi #1
  17. Here's some Adam Hughes goodness. This is a promotional poster he did to promote Penthouse Comix.
  18. Hey I didn't want to start a whole new thread so I thought I'd post here. I was at my local Walmart and found some DC 3-Packs. mainly Rebirth issues, but you can only see the top comic. I was wondering if anyone has bought some of these and opened them? Are the other issues #s 2 and 3 of the series or are they random issues? Also note that these are variants as they have no cover price. The Harley Quinn & Deadshot comic is a variant of Harley Quinn 21. If this has been discussed elsewhere already, my apologies. Apparently these have been out for awhile but I just came across them ( I don't go to Walmart very often unless I have to). I looked up some on eBay, but I didn't see any that were opened other than the top comic.
  19. As the owner of a distillery, I am always watching for antique whisky bottles. this isn't an antique! This was bought at the liquor store last year! i have two bottles of absolute brooklyn limited edition (they still have vodka in them though), apparently, when empty, those sell for good money. people turn stuff into lamps and stuff i guess. i have no idea. my wife just polished off some really good scotch i bought her..small batch, $100 a bottle (Aberlour a’bunadh), and apparently the empties sell for like $10. it is a pretty bottle, sure. I know, shipping this will be a PITA, but I'll survive Check out the prices for empty Crystal Head Vodka bottles. I used to work at a casino that carried this stuff and I would always check out the trash cans filled with empty liquor bottles to see if any were thrown out, but never found any.
  20. Found a few goodies at a Garage Sale this morning. Nothing spectacular, but a few decent ones. Especially at 50 cents each. The interesting thing was there were 2 guys going through the comics before I got there. There were around 5-6 short boxes. They pulled out about a box worth, but either missed a few that I picked up or didn't know they had value.
  21. Here are some books I picked up at a garage sale this weekend. Nothing spectacular, but a few decent finds for 50 cents a piece. Most of them are in pretty nice shape except the Brave & Bolds. I graded the Moon Knight 57 as a 9.6,so I was pretty happy with the find.
  22. I also have a JLA 158/Superman 327 and a Superboy & Legion 244/Super Friends 14. In addition I have a DC Comics presents 2/Action 487 and a DC Comics Presents 3/Action 488 that were already opened when I acquired the collection that these books were in. The comics in the opened packs appear to be in the vf/nm to nm- range. As a side note, the bags still have a 39 cent price tag from Pic 'n' Save on them.
  23. Just curious, does anyone know if the 3 packs and 2 packs have the same rarity or one is scarcer then the other? I have 3 2-packs, but they don't seem to be going for very much. One of them has Action 489/Superboy-Legion 245. I checked eBay and a couple of the Action comic by itself sold for $15-$20 in higher grade, but then a sealed 2-pack sold for $8.99. Is it better to keep them sealed or open and sell individually?
  24. I go to garage sales nearly every week and what i do the night before is check Craig's List/garage sales. Make sure you search the day you're planning to go out. I will type in the search box Comic Books or Comics. It will bring up any ads that have those words in the description. A good day to search is Wednesday night for Thursday sales as a lot of estate sales run Thursday thru Sunday.
