downgraded when returned signed, options?
newshane replied to Shalashaska's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
There are a few other pressers who can sign off for the yellow label. The CGC doesn't allow promotion of these companies on the board, but a quick Google search should point you in the right direction. -
Oh Canada.

It still helps regardless. It doesn't ensure that the person gets the package, but if someone signed for it then you're off the hook.

I agree. I have my post office hold packages throughout the week. I pick them up every Saturday. Granted, I pretty much live in Mayberry. My post office is very small and I'm on a first-name basis with everyone there. But they agree to hold my packages throughout the week for no extra charge...no PO Box required. It might be a pain, but it's better than having the packages destroyed by the weather, roaming animals, or a thief.

Signature confirmation is your friend. I use it when selling high-dollar items to unfamiliar customers.

Collecting every appearance of a character
newshane replied to FineCollector's topic in Comics General
That list of "270 books" is just one category out of ten on the website. You're welcome to continue perusing the complete site if you wish. My point is that the accomplishment of collecting "every appearance" is not nearly as "doable" as what you claimed. I'm also not sure why you made the claim in the first place, after freely admitting you know next to nothing about the character. -
Collecting every appearance of a character

I just want to make it clear that I applaud anyone who goes after a complete run, regardless of one's definition of complete. I think it shows true love and a sense of dedication to the character and the hobby itself. To complete any sort of deep run is a true challenge and an immense undertaking. Some runs are easier than others, but that doesn't make the pursuit any less worthwhile. Part of my love for the registry, despite its flaws, is the opportunity to explore the collections of others and share the collections of my own. It's also great to see scans of raw runs from collectors on the board. I'm a big fan of collecting runs, but I will never again try to collect a 9.8 graded run of any sort. No way. I've been broken. But my next goal is to put together a raw Iron Man run. Looking forward to it! As much as I love keys, I always seem to go back to the torture of putting together runs. -

It would still be very, very, very difficult to compile "every appearance" even using your definition. There is nothing remotely easy about it in the slightest. Some people (not you, necessarily) think, "Oh, Spawn! A modern age comic. There are millions of these available and they are probably all in 9.8 condition." Not even close. Trent over at Spawnworld has compiled an exhaustive, comprehensive list of all the Spawn appearances. Take a quick browse, if you're curious, and see what's out there. It's insane. HERE is a list of guest appearances, for example...this isn't counting the hundreds of other issues in which Spawn has made an appearance... -

I'll just issue the challenge right now... if you have every appearance of Spawn...I'd like to see side-by-side pics of his 185 Sketch Edition and 232 EWU special along with a sticky note that says YOU OWE ME YOUR PAYCHECK. -

I know he stated that for Spawn. It's nowhere near as doable as what you think. Go to SPAWNWORLD and look at all the issues listed in the checklists. I've been collecting Spawn almost exclusively for the last 4 or 5 years in an attempt to put together a complete 9.8 run. There are TONS of foreign issues, one-shots, variants, etc. Some of them with print runs fewer than 100. Spawn is a mother and no one would know that better than me. That being said, if he truly does have EVERYTHING...I'd love to see pictures of his legendary collection. I think saying that he has "every appearance" is hyperbole at best. We're talking thousands of books. -

per PM. Thanks! -
As a collector of issue runs, I can't wholeheartedly recommend the practice. It takes a special type of insanity to pursue a span of issues in a specific grade. You end up searching compulsively and spending way too much money. There is an edge of anxiety that kicks in and helps you follow through even though your goals seem impossible. In short, don't do it. I could be absolutely loaded with keys, but I've chosen a different path and must live with my decision as I follow through to the bitter end.

Lunch break wasted. Now I have a headache. But at least I have a few names to add to my personal list of people to avoid. Two problems with eBay...just to begin... 1. Winning buyers who don't pay. 2. Sellers who use stock photos and insist on ridiculous terms when they are too lazy to provide an accurate grade or edit their listings. Oh yeah...and I know the time changed and all...but is it FRIDAY and someone just didn't tell me?

The buyer told me that he would claim the book under normal circumstances but offered to let me keep it since I made the price cuts. While I think that's a kind gesture, I have no problems giving the book to a repeat customer. My word is my word. Bonus book claimed. Don't forget the Flash Lenticular is now on sale at 20% off!
