I still like the idea of a bonus based on completion percent but understand it may not be feasible depending on the design of the database. It would certainly be easy to implement from a reporting perspective as all the required information, score and %complete, is already present. As to upsetting people, well... change of any kind usually upsets someone, but I do think that if the change details and reason for change are clearly and accurately communicated it will go a long way in soothing any ruffled feathers. Similarly, the message that registry awards will only be given for sets that are x% complete (in order to encourage set building) should be relatively well received and easy to understand because one issue does not a set make. My feeling is that "x" should be 10%. In that way, only a single book is required for sets of size 1-10, two books is required for sets of size 11-20, three books is required for sets of size 21-30, and so on. Regardless of what change is made, IF a change is to be made then it should be publicized WELL in advance of implementation. There should be announcements and banners and notices in the control panel, etc, etc, etc. That way the initial "sting" or knee-jerk reaction for those that don't like it will have a chance to soothe over time before it becomes reality. It will also give those folks a chance to "catch up" if they need to do so before they lose rankings.

Purchased in '91 and conserved in '97 this one might someday find a slab. Conserved, restored, whatever, I'm just glad I'm not chasing one now.

Old books about older times. The last one from Australia doesn't really count as an Atlas, but I included it just for fun. -
Restored or Conserved?
Figment replied to Figment's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I certainly don't know how to distinguish what was used, but the statement leads me to believe that the experts would be able to tell. She did ask if I wanted some of the stuff on the cover that could be "easily lifted away" removed, but again I've no idea what was done or how. It certainly hasn't been "decorated" or "gussied up" like some I've seen. Thanks. -
This is a tough one also, especially for the GA books which don't have many sales in general, and even fewer that get recorded. Part of the problem is that GPA and GoCollect automatically update everything they're aware of in what is fairly close to real time, while Overstreet editors must manually try to do the same in a once yearly cycle. I don't envy you (or the Overstreet guys) the task, this is a job for the new Amazon superhero called Analytics-Man.

Done in 1997 before there was a distinction, I asked Susan Cicconi to help this book survive the continuing passage of time. The intent was conservation, not restoration, but I don''t know enough about today's standards to know which color label it would receive? Thoughts? I've obscured the title so as not to obscure or influence any judgements. Thanks!

Will be graded a NG or green label?
Figment replied to OA4407's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
So I guess the next logical question becomes... If a 4.0 is given a Qualified label because "Page 12 missing, does NOT affect story", then if you ask to relabel to Universal what does the grade become? And does that mean a 4.5 or higher Qualified is not eligible for relabel? -

Hmm... I wonder what Warner Brothers had to say about this one? -

Hmm... I guess some of my documentation is wrong, that or my memory. Sometimes it's hell being almost as old as some of these books. Thanks for the correction. -

I got this one years ago because what kid from Texas wouldn't? (And yes, thanks to the new "open carry, no permit, no training" laws this is about what we'll be going back to.) -

I know it's a bit weird but this may be my favorite golden age not-Schomburg cover and ranks in my top five favorite covers of all time.
