You know, once you start Vampirella mags it's hard to stop.
It's a sickness. 🤪
You know, I've heard that, before, but right now, Turoks are my main focus. At least that's what I keep telling myself. hah!

Large groups of Dell’s usually have a distinct smell anyway. Must be the ink or paper used. I once bought a large pile at a flea market and just put them on the passenger seat for the ride home. My car was permeated we thin 10 minutes. Books had no water damage, mold or other damage.
Back to your problem. Try this. Lay them in a large box and sprinkle baking soda around them and close up the box. Let them sit for a week. Should mitigate the smell. Or spread them out opened up in the garage for a while. Has helped for me.
And, although, I rarely buy most of those books anymore, $50. was a great deal on those.
Robot Man, thanks for the tip. I'll have to try the baking soda treatment.
Interesting what you mentioned about the smell of the Dells.

Finally, the moment you all have been waiting for... The last installment of "The Old, Musty Trailer Hoard"!
I had run out of mylars, so I just stuck these comics into page protectors. Please excuse the funky glares in the scans. I was too damn lazy to take the books out of the protectors.
Thanks for looking, and a big THANKS to those that participated.
Happy hunting to all!

The fate of many comics was to wind up as musty old paper! As young kids we found some very early Wonder Womans at the local flea market that were falling apart and reeked of mold and mildew. They must have literally cost pennies because we had no money then. Somehow they ended up at the bottom of the attic steps disintegrating further. I remember looking at the pictures of the old Wonder Woman drawings sometimes and thinking, "well this is different!" Yes Dr. Marston it was quite different!
Into a pulpy oblivion they went; I'm sure Mom tossed in the rubbish bin the next time she went into the attic.
If only we knew what we know, now.

Nice find. I live about a 1/2 hour from Chiefland and I gotta say, there will not be any white paged hoards being unearthed around here
I lived in Chiefland for about seven years. Also lived in Bradenton, Sarasota, Ocala, Eureka and Panama City. Oh, and Apollo Beach.

These look great. I wonder if you could pack them with dryer sheets to help get out the smell, like they do with old trading cards that smell like smoke.
Thanks. Yeah, I did exactly that with them. They don't smell as bad as they did when I first got them. I think the main problem is that they are all stored in one box. I think they need to get out to breathe.

I finally got to scanning an old, fleamarket rescue from many years ago.
I was searching table to table at a fleamarket in Chiefland, Florida when I noticed a tote full of comics below one of them. I thumbed through a few, and quickly noticed that they were all golden age books! Problem was that they weren't bagged and boarded, and they also had a musty, old trailer smell. The seller/collector, a nice, older lady, told me that the trailer she lived in was old, and that the books had always been stored inside of it. If you've never been inside of an old trailer in the state of Florida, I can tell you that they can get to smelling pretty bad. My guess is that the roof must have had some leaks in it, and for a long time, too. Anywho, even though the books had a musty smell to them, I felt compelled to rescue them. I offered $50 for the lot, and then took them home, tote and all. It's been years, now, and the books still have an odor to them, but I'm glad that I decided to rescue them. I thought I'd share these scans of the hoard with those that may be interested. One can see that many of the books are moisture damaged. Shame, too. Otherwise, they would have been pretty decent books.
Sorry, but there's no Superhero or Horror/SciFi books, here . These are mainly cartoon characters. I'll post the rest of the hoard after I get them scanned. Until then, here is a taste, or should I say ... sniff?

"Since I recently finished off a run of the two EC sci-fi fi big two, I've been able to spread them out as runs. Some killer Feldstein and Wood covers on these. Contents wise a wash. Both are classic stuff. But cover wise, does anyone have a favorite of the two titles as a whole?"It's hard to pick a favorite when they're all awesome.

That's 2,500 weeks at $100 per.. I don't think I've got that many weeks left. So, no offer from me.

Only two to worry about. Going to cut a side off of each of the mylars to relieve some pressure. Should work until I get what I need.

GA books should go into GA mylars.
Had the same problem with silver age books. My record/LP mylars are the same, tight fitting. They're all Gerber mylars. I've never experienced the issue when using Mylites so I think I'll stick with using them.

Thanks, jimjum
As far as mylars go, I like E Gerber products, and I'm wondering what size bags and boards I should get to house these Dell Turoks? I hate when the fit is so tight that I have to bounce the bag on a table to get the book and board into it. Any recommendations on sizes? Maybe go with an 8X10 1/2 Mylite-4 with full back? 8 3/4X11 1/2?

I sent some (23) books back in jan ... they are still to be press ... then how many more months for grading ... 7 months down ... I am hoping to get them within the year .. when I read the turnaround times it makes me laugh .. they take nearly 2 months ( for the books i sent in may ) to acknowledge they received them ...
If you're lucky, it's likely to take a month just for the post office to get the books there.

The good news is most aren't expensive, so shouldn't be too hard for you to reassemble a collection.
Problem is that they have to grade 9.4 or higher. 9.2 or possibly 8.5 for the Dell and Four Color issues.
