  1. Well, it just says that the two new worlds are meant as a new mythology, as indeed they were. Earth is common to both the Marvel works and the DC ones, but obviously it’s not intended to be included in the same creation.
  2. That's a great point. Superman readers of today aren't reading Supes as when he was first introduced. DC never had at its basis the concept which made Marvel entirely different. The whole Crisis series was an attempt to rationalize something in that vein, but they already trashed everything almost in its entirety, especially with the last "brilliant" idea of the New 52.
  3. Deadpool hasn’t "changed significantly", he simply was a character with no background before, and what they developed has nothing to do with the Marvel continuty (and vision) which was still existence when it appeared on the New Mutants. In fact, it’s precisely around the time of these issues that Marvel started to irremediably (or so) disgregate its whole concept of continuity, and its overall vision as it was developed over 30+ years of stories. From what I get by reading some random Deadpool, the character is a sort of odd commentary on everything and nothing, with a humorous and occasionally bitter slant, which could exist everywhere, independently from the fact that is a "Marvel" character. But again, this can be said for existing characters they hacked to death as well. Too many to list…
  4. Off topic but just out of curiosity, some of the italian issues used the illustrations of the picture-frame period (the late ones) as full bleeding covers to a great effect: (Many issues remain unpublished here, and would love to pick a number of them, but magazines are darn costly to ship overseas… ).
  5. What do you mean by "pre-pressed"? They use a different cover paper stock, but not much thicker than the US one. In the U.S., U.K. and Canada panini refers to pressed and toasted sandwiches. It was a weak joke. Well, "panini" is the italian generic term for any kind of bread sandwich, pressed or not, but you won’t make the association with the surname ("Panini" is a family, they started by publishing soccer-related stickers in the 1960s and became huge – the firm, although it changed property around the "Marvel Italia" time are also from my city, so – yes, 95% of european Marvel editions are now produced in my hometown). You won’t make the association as I suppose you won’t when someone has "Green" or "Black" as a second name in english. Or "" or "Dyke", so to speak, do not imply you remember the swear words, I hope.
  6. What do you mean by "pre-pressed"? They use a different cover paper stock, but not much thicker than the US one.
  7. Why the first appearance of Deadpool is so sought after? I mean, the character was taken out of context and developed after New Mutants #98, the early apperance should not matter so much for those which read Deadpool now.
  8. Magazine-sized italian Marvel books… (That’s where I read the early stories, those were anthologic reprints of the various series: also the only occasion where the Avengers had a proper italian title, as originally they were a Thor backup feature here). Just some found pictures, not from my collection. This is the second edition of FF #1 (includes #2 and partially #3):
  9. Russians are often very good at lettering design. After all, the Cyrillic alphabet was invented by St. Cyril and St. Methodius. Isn’t 42 the publisher of those russian "super-hero" like books?
  10. I agree 800% on this. I am perfectly happy with a nice NM, for books I really care about, and I can even favor a VG over a VF if it has better centering, and above all better inside printing (a problem you can also have with Copper, printed pretty lousily compared to certain late Silver/early Bronze whose insides printing quality is great).
  11. Tim knows I agree with you for the simple fact they are signed on covers rather than on the insides. But I think it makes sense when the book is historically important, and signed by people which normally would be harder to see together, and possibly now deceased (e.g. Stan with Joe Simon, or Stan with Larry Lieber and Ayers, etc.)
  12. Wow Matt, that is beautiful – love how they carefully adapted the Hellboy logo design (original is by Kevin Nowlan). When did they publish it?
  13. I recall I read somewhere that the Jester was supposedly inspired by the Joker, but I have always found he was a fascinating villain in his own right.…
  14. Do you like my Jesters? I did not recall Gene Colan is just awesome on these…
  15. Ask and you shall receive… In Italy Daredevil was colored all Red since day one:
  16. I decided it was about time to refresh my (fond) memories of Jester, so my little Daredevil collection has two new members.
  17. That’s not a good comparision term. To read the story properly you need both Hulk #181 and #182, while Deadpool is pretty much a "post-Marvel Age" character – all on his own, and his first appearances are not so necessary for someone who likes the current stories, IMO.

  19. I have not checked the link posted by Matteo, but some eBay dealers use a ten point scale (without decimals), so it’s 1-10, and you have no 7.5 or so… Germans are precise anyway, so I guess they’ve found a way to make up for that (maybe with further descriptions?).
  20. You know well that they are being quite arbitrarily applied, Federico, so it’s a lottery anyway. BTW, there are no people in the frame of mind to properly judge a NM- and call it "Edicola", let alone "Ottimo/Edicola", which at its best is generally a VF. And when a dealer says "Ottimo" we see it pretty much covers the range from 5.5 to 8.0 – so as I said: it’s always a gamble unless you have the book in hand.
  21. Colors are the beautiful thing of these journals… often, especially in 1943-45 they vary a lot between single copies of each issue, because of the inconsistent printing conditions…
  22. Two out of three created by Jack Kirby (well, with some help from Stan, that is… ). BTW tele, did you finish the National Comics run? Forgot to ask you?
  23. As far as the terminology goes, there are generically a lot less "grade" terms. More or less: – Magazzino (this should stand for "Mint", but it’s debated) – Edicola (literally "Newsstand", means the comic is in high grade, VF to NM); – Ottimo (the equivalent of F); – Buono (a rough equivalent of GVG to VG); – Discreto (more or less a G); – Mediocre (in the FR to FRG range). Terms may vary a little, but you get the picture. I thing germans have developed a way better numeric system for grading comics.
