A little update here. In the week since we passed $1000, we've pretty much hit a full stop. I think the amount has only gone up by $26 in the last week, with just two new backers. But I had heard that's how these things go, so while it's a bit disappointing, it's not surprising. I am still occasionally getting new "followers' - these are people who have asked Kickstarter to remind them about the project when there are two days left - so it's possible some of those people will back at the end.

And the end is getting close! Just over five days left at this point. I'm still hopeful that we will at least meet the next stretch goal - we're just $58 short of adding a Squeeks solo 4-page backup story to the comic, which I am really excited about, so fingers are crossed. And if you are interested in getting the Boy Comics Variant Cover, now's your chance! There may not be many or any copies left after the campaign ends, so if this is something you're interested in, I would recommend ordering one before the camapign ends. This is even more true for the Kickstarter Exclusive legacy Number Variant, which is an homage to Flash Comics #92 - this cover is only available through Kickstarter.
Anyway! no pressure, I just know some people have expressed interest in these, so I wanted to give a reminder that time and supply are both limited.

I've written a little bit about all this stuff in my latest project update, and also added some new Add-On rewards.

thanks for all the support! I'm really looking forward to this campaign being over so I can order the comics, then send you the comics, so I can hear what people actually thin about the story! It's nice that it exists, but it's pointless if nobody ever reads it! So I am really looking forward to sending these out.

For those who might have missed it, The Crimebusters #1-3 is now live on Kickstarter! And thanks to all your support, we've hit the initial goal, so thank you. I really, truly appreciate it so much.
Still two weeks to go in the campaign, though, and I'm hoping to bring in some new readers, and bring back some old readers, so I'll be announcing the first stretch goals tomorrow.
In the meantime, I did a live launch party on YouTube. If you missed it live, you can watch the reply now!

I made a video where I show the results of all 5 variants of my comic, The Crimebusters #1, that I sent into CGC. Results were mixed! But it was a good learning experience, particularly just trying to figure out how the submission process works when you are sending in your own signed books. The answer is: it's confusing!

The Kickstarter will launch two weeks from tomorrow!

Over the next week or so, I'll be revealing the three variant covers.

Here's the first one! This is the Kickstarter Exclusive Legacy Number Variant - this will be available at the same price as the regular cover, but will only be available as a Kickstarter reward; I won't be selling any copies outside of Kickstarter. So if you like this one, get it while it's hot!

Of course, this is an homage to Flash Comics #92 by Carmine Infantino, which itself is an homage to Detective Comics #38 by Kane and Robinson. Since I'm introducing Trixie Trouble in this issue as Chuck's new partner, I thought a cover with the classic DC "smash through a paper circle" motif would be perfect. And Black Canary's solo series cover from Flash Comics #92 seemed like the obvious pick. I did borrow the text from Detective Comics #38, though.

Two covers down and two to go!

I've begun video recording my podcast episodes, and have started uploading them to the ol' YouTube, so if you missed it, here's the three-part discussion of Avengers #211-230, the Fall of Yellowjacket:

I've been a busy beaver, buying comics and making videos about those comics, so I've got a batch of new videos for you today.
First, here are two haul videos where I show off the stuff I've been picking up on ebay during the pandemic:

And then in this one, I discuss some of the my favorite storylines in comics history:

The Kickstarter has ended and I'm just waiting for the copies of The Crimebusters #1 to arrive from the printers! If anyone missed the Kickstarter and wants a copy or copies, let me know and we'll figure something out when they arrive!
In the meantime, I'm keeping busy by working on #2!
The second issue is called "The Secret of the Ghost Bride." It features Chuck and Trixie investigating a haunted house. With a twist: there might be some time travel involved, thanks to the surprise return of a Golden Age character.
It also is going to feature a backup solo story starring Trixie's roommate Vera Veritas. Vera's a science major, and an amateur astrologer, so in the fall of 1956 she's gearing up for the International Geophysical Year, which is set to start in the summer of 1957, officially kicking off the space race! And as a sci-fi geek like us, she's dreaming of the stars...
...as shown in the Kickstarter Exclusive Legacy Number Variant Cover for the second issue (#121), which is an homage to one of my favorite comic book covers, Planet Comics #71!

In my latest video, I show off the first part of my complete bronze Age Wonder Woman run - this one covers the I-Ching New Look era, as well as the 12 Labors era, with issues #178-227:

Here's the next of the variant covers for the first issue of my new comic, The Crimebusters, launching on Kickstarter June 11.
Since I am planning to do a Boy Comics variant cover every issue starring Crimebuster, I thought it would only be fair to also do a variant cover every issue featuring his new partner, Trixie Trouble. So I'm going to do a variant every issue re-imagining the story as a classic young adult mystery novel. Here's the first of the Trixie Trouble Mysteries variant covers!

And a look at all the covers I've revealed so far:

The Crimebusters #3 will be launching on Kickstarter next month, but the pre-launch page is live now. So if you want to make sure you don't miss out, check it out and click the "notify me" button to make sure you don't miss it.
Thanks again for all the support! I really appreciate it.

Also, if you haven't read the first issue yet, I am giving away digital copies to anyone who signs up for my mailing list. I only update once a month (except during launches) so there's not too much spam; my October update should be going out in the next couple days, so now's the perfect time. Thanks!

Well, this has been a long, tough row to hoe, but The Crimebusters #3 is now live on Kickstarter.
I wanted to thank everyone here for all your support, I really appreciate all the kind words, and even just a simple like on one of these posts is a great bit of positive reinforcement. So, thanks, everyone! Group hug!!

    Hey there!
We're inside the last 48 hours, so I have composed another update (well, a couple really since last time I posted here).
I also just wanted to remind everyone that may be interested that this Kickstarter is going to end shortly, so if you do think this is a comic you'd be interested in, now is the time! Most of the variant covers will be printed in very small numbers, and the Kickstarter Exclusive Variant Cover in particular (which is an homage to Flash Comics #92) is going to be in short supply, since I won't be selling it outside of Kickstarter.
Here's one final share of the link to the campaign if you're interested in backing it.
And one more look at the variant covers:

    Thanks everyone!
  13. Crimebuster
Here's the final variant cover for the first issue. Of course, the whole point of this originally was to make new issues of Boy Comics, so there has to be a cover with the Boy Comics logo and numbering. And there is!

Here's a look at all four covers for this first issue. sorry for the slight blurriness, the site here automatically squeezes the image to a certain size like it or not:

Less than a week until the Kickstarter on June 11! It's been a ton of work, so I'm glad it's nearly here!
  14. Crimebuster
Just a few days left until this thing launches on Kickstarter on June 11. In my latest project blog, I discuss the printing process, getting my Kickstarter campaign ready to launch, and the big news of the day: the first copy has arrived!! It's real!

  15. Crimebuster
Cross-posting this from the main forum, because I'm just too excited to keep it to myself.
I just got this back from CGC - it's the first issue blank variant of my self-published comic The Crimebusters, which I then signed and sketched with an homage to Archie #50, starring my character Trixie Trouble.
When I learned that artists can submit signature series books and act as their own witness, I had to try it!

  16. Crimebuster
    Big news!!
The first issue is off to the printers for proofing! I'm totally stoked!

I've also been wrestling for awhile with the numbering for this first issue. I really, really want to keep the legacy numbering from Boy Comics, but at the same time, I know there are some (weird) readers who may not even give the series a try if it's got a #120 on the cover. So... I've decided to just print copies with both numbers and let people choose whichever number they want. To be honest, I'm not sure anyone will choose the #120 cover, but I want it on my own copies! I'm still thinking of this as #120, but I'm making a small concession to the masses I by going with standard numbering as well. They can pick the #1 version while I read the #120 version.

I'm actually going to have a total of four covers. The regular cover will be #1, but there will also be a (Kickstarter exclusive) legacy number variant for the same price with a #120 on the cover. Additionally, Trixie and Chuck will each have their own variant covers; Trixie's will be a #1, while Chuck's will be #120 with the Boy Comics logo. So people can pick whichever cover or number they like best.

I'll be unveiling the three variant covers over the next three weeks! But as a tease, the Legacy Number Variant with the #120 on the cover is going to be an homage to a classic Infantino cover.

You can read all about my thoughts on numbering in my latest project update:

I've got a pantload of stuff going on right now, probably too much. But here are some updates.
On the Kickstarter front, I've announced the official launch date for The Crimebusters #3 — it's next Monday, November 16! You can check out the pre-launch page now, though, and click the "notify me" button to make sure you don't miss it. This one will be running for 17 days.
I've also posted the latest episode of the Classic Comics Forum Podcast. Episode 29 is the final of three parts discussing Avengers #211-230, the Fall of Yellowjacket.
And over on YouTube, my latest haul video is all DC romance:

Plus, on Monday I'll be doing a live launch party on YouTube for The Crimebusters #3, so you can set a reminder now to make sure you don't miss it:

    Howdy, folks!

Just a couple quick updates. Firstly, there's just under 72 hours left in the Kickstarter for the third issue of my comic book series, The Crimebusters, so if you were planning on checking it out but haven't gotten around to it yet, now's the time!

I also have a couple interviews to share with yous.
Firstly, in this video, I speak with artist Julie Oliveira, who drew the Trixie's Mysteries variant cover for The Crimebusters #3:

And then, in this video, I'm interviewed about The Crimebusters by the folks at the Go Fund Me! podcast:

And here I am talking about making comics with the folks at Story Comic:

Plus, I've also been making some videos where I show off my complete run of Boy Comics, which inspired me to make The Crimebusters in the first place!

  20. Crimebuster
I've been churning out the YouTube videos, so there's a bunch to see on my channel, but I thought I'd just highlight these two.

In this video, I spend 5x as much as I ever have for a comic and acquire one of my personal grails:

And in this one, I start a new series called Origin Stories: The Comics That Shaped Us where I interview comic book fans about their origin story as a collector, though the lens of the 10 individual comics that had the biggest impact on their life. In this first episode, I interview the person who sold me that grail book! Which is Shaxper, the founder of the Classic Comics Forum.

It's been a little while since I posted an update, because I've been too busy doing stuff to talk about the stuff I've been doing!
Since this is the CGC forum, I'll start with a video I made about the process of trying to submit my own comic, The Crimebusters, to CGC. Let's just say it's been very confusing, to the point where multiple CGC reps have seemed almost as confused as I am.
The main point of confusion seems to be that CGC has divided their services into two totally separate areas - the Signature Series books are handled by a totally different branch of the company than regula rbooks. This is fine if you're just sending one or the other, but since I am sending in both, nobody quite seemed sure how I'm supposed to submit the books.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that I am a creator acting as my own witness for the SS books, but in addition to my Artist Account, I also have a personal CGC account with $150 credit that I want applied to my submissions. It seems as though I can't get the Artist rate on SS submissions if I use my own personal account credit, which basically means I'll have to pay twice as much if I use that credit as I would if I used the Artists Account and paid that way instead.
Anyway, I eventually did my best and sent it in - 4 copies of my book for regular encapsulation, and one cover sketched and signed by myself to the Signature Series. I included a long letter explaining what I am trying to do here, but I'm expecting a phone call from them some time this week asking for clarification, because honestly. This doesn't seem like it should be so complicated!
Here's the video I made about this - when I get the books back, I'll do an unboxing so I can rant about how they aren't graded as high as they should be:

I also did a slew of other videos in the last week, but for the sake of not swamping this journal, I've just picked a few that I think you'll find most itneresting.
Here's a comparison of Marvel and DC's bicentennial treasuries:

    Here's a way-too-in-depth breakdown of Adventure Comics #427:

And here's another deep dive into a box of comics - this time they are war and horror books:

    ALSO!!!

the final two episodes of my 6-part podcast series discussing Marvel's Star Wars have both finally dropped!
Here's part 5, covering issues #81-94 and more!
    Here's part 6, covering issues #95-107!
  22. Crimebuster
Episode #28 of the Classic Comics Forum Podcast is now live, with the second part of my three-part discussion about the Fall of Yellowjacket storyline. This time around we finish talking about the infamous court martial story in Avengers #213 before moving on to discuss #214-220:

Meanwhile, on the YouTube front, I've got a couple new videos to share with you.
In the newest episode of Origin Stories, I speak with Roquefort Raider about his experiences getting into comics in Quebec in the 1970's:

And in this one, I show off some comic strip sketches that my Grandmother made in 1940:

  23. Crimebuster
Good news, I have completed the initial art for the main story for The crimebusters #2! We're still on track for a Kickstarter launch at the end of January.
I also just did my final show of the year, a three day affair last weekend. I sort of lost my shirt on my table, however, the weekend was saved from a financial perspective when I somehow found a copy of Strange Tales #110 for $10. I also met some cool creators doing their own books, and a lot of cool fans, so overall it was a good experience.
Here's the convention report I put together!

I also forgot to mention that my monthly newsletter is coming out today around 12:30 pm ET, so if you haven't signed up, now's a good time.
