  1. Okay, it took me a little while, but as promised, here it is. This is a full fun of the Doctor Strange series in Strange Tales, plus his solo series run that followed: Strange Tales #110, 111, 114-168 and Doctor Strange #169-183.

I am selling this to raise money to make new comics! So your money will go to a good home, and I hope to find a good home for these comics.

The keys in this run are mostly low grade, especially the big ones at the start, which are all very rough. I have priced everything accordingly.

The price for the entire run is $2650 $2250 shipped to the U.S.

    Payment via check please.

Notes and grades on the key issues:

    110 - 1.5 - 1st Doctor Strange, 1st Nightmare

I have this at a 1.5, though an argument could be made for 1.8. Main issues are extensive tanning -- you can see in the photos there is a spot of brittleness at the bottom of the spine that has resulted in some chipping away. Otherwise the pages seem relatively supple, if tan.

There is a long tear front cover from middle bottom up about 3 inches. The bottom inch of this tear also runs through the first seven or eight pages. There are a couple other, smaller tears on the fc and bc as well.

Despite all that, both staples are firmly attached!

Low grade, well loved, an affordable classic key!

    111 - 1.5 - 1st Baron Mordo

I also have this at a 1.5. The spine is split from the bottom to the bottom staple. There's a chuck out of the fc on the right edge. There's also a pair of extra staples added. Weirdly, there are two totally unrelated date stamps on this book - the one on the front is May 8, which I think is correct. The one on the back, Sept 12 1964, doesn't make a lick of sense. Best guess is it was at a second hand distributor at that time?

    114 - 2.0 - 1st Silver Age Captain America

This one has a lot of tanning and rough edges, and a spine split at top. But the staples are still somehow firmly attached.

    115 - 3.0 - Origin Doctor Strange

    123 - 3.5 - 1st Beetle

    126 - 3.5 - 1st Clea, 1st Dormammu

    135 - 2.5 - 1st SHIELD

    138 - 4.0 - 1st Eternity

    150 - 5.0 - 1st Umar

    158 - 5.5 - 1st full Living Tribunal

    159 - 5.0 - 1st Contessa Val Fontaine

This is signed "to Scott" on the front cover by Jim Steranko

    167 - 8.0

This is a really nice copy. Slight rubbing and blunting top spine, and a slight corner crunch bottom spine. Main issue is light tanning on cover from original white. if it was still white it would be close to a 9.0. Awesome cover!

    169 - 5.5

No particular note other than that I love this book.

  2. 1.    in thread trumps PM conversations.

    2. In the case of multiple PMs, or take its, I will go by time stamp.

    3. no HoS/probation people please. I'm Crimebuster, not Crimeenabler

    4. shipping is FREE to the U.S., or $25 to Canada. Any import fees to Canada to be paid by the recipient. I wish this was easier, but they have made things real messy to ship up to Canada.

    5. Paypal for books under $1k - check for books over $1k

    6. please pay promptly, I have a crimefighting monkey sidekick to feed

    7. If there's any kind of issue with the books, let me know within one week of receiving it and we can figure out some kind of return. But I don't anticipate any issues!

  3. Flash Comics #92 comes to mind, as it has always seemed to me to be an homage of Detective Comics #38. Debatable though - Crack Comics #30 has a cover that seems like even more of an homage to Detective #38 as the hero is introducing his new sidekick. But they both may have just been using a common convention of the time rather than homaging a specific work.

There was a CBR article about this a while ago and while they offered up a lot of possibilities depending on what you think the artist was doing - swiping or homaging or recycling - one suggestion that makes some sense to me was Superman #147, where Curt Swan was homaging his own cover from Adventure Comics #247. That's a case where I think he's clearly not just re-using an idea, but purposefully referencing the original cover.

  4. Hello, everyone!

I'm going to have to push the full run of Dr. Strange Strange Tales off a little longer. I'm still pretty under the weather and I discovered that I mis-filed one issue in the run - 129, maybe the stupidest issue - so I'm going to need a while longer to figure out which insane box I accidentally put it in.

I don't want to hold up getting books out to people who are waiting, though, so I'm going to close this thread so I can get out the books that have sold. I will be returning in a week or two with the Strange Tales run though, as soon as I can find the energy to locate that one stupid missing issue.

Sorry for the tease! I'll have that run up hopefully by the end of the month though. (thumbsu And I've already found a few other things while looking for the 129 that I'll be putting up in the new thread as well, so hopefully it will be worth the wait for someone.

For everyone who has claimed something, I'll PM you shortly with payment details. Thanks!

What happened to the Strange Tales run?

I had been in some negotiations for a while over just the 110 by itself so I didn't want to post the rest of the run until that was settled.

If people are interested, I can still post the whole run. It might be another day or two though. I came down with pneumonia shortly after starting this thread and I haven't had it in me to get pictures of the rest of the books yet. Sorry for the hold up. 😷
