Thanks all for helping my perspective on this - I kid you not, literally this morning I found this exact issue - Wolverine 17 - in really nice condition at a nearby LCS's "back issue sale" celebrating Free Comic Book Day. Paid $2.50 for it. Also, because I never learn and I'm too impulsive, I already bought the graded 9.2 before I made this post... But the thing is, I really do like the issue, and I like how it looks slabbed.

I guess maybe my use of the word "investment" wasn't right - for books like this for me, I don't plan to sell, so I feel like if I find one in a decent enough grade and it's already slabbed, maybe it's worth it? I guess I meant "investment" in the sense that I wouldn't necessarily lose money if I bought a slabbed book for less than FMV. I'm probably just trying to justify it to myself.

One thing I've learned for certain is I could never own a comic book store, because I'd never want to sell anything!

Put that $2.50 in a quality Mylar with a thick backboard and it will challenge your perspective on how a book presents best. Books look great in slabs but the slab is a little too thick for the color to pop.  Even $30 buys a great book that looks awesome in Mylar.

  2. Hey guys,

Selling off some books that no longer fit in my narrow collection. I’ll add to this list once in a while.

Terms:  you can return the book within a few days if you find an undisclosed defect.  If you buy the book thinking it might be a 9.6 and then discover it’s more like a 9.4, that’s not a reason to return the book..Go to a show and do that kind of thing.  I always check my books to see if pages or pieces are missing that if I missed one, that is definitely a reason to return the book.

Shipping will be $10 for up to five books. I will ship them in on bendable, cardboard, folded package. Probably not in a box, but I will insure it and it will get there safely.

US sales only, but I might be convinced to sell to Canada for an additional fee

Paypal G&S unless we agree otherwise via PM

A “take” in the thread trumps an offer under negotiation.

  3. Hey guys,

So last night I was at a local comic book club meeting.  (Yeah, it's cool that we have one).  Anyway, I was discussing how I felt that the cover of Man-Thing #12 is cool because you get to see what Man-Thing's back looks like.  One of our member's expressed to me how much editors tried to discourage this type of cover because it didn't provide the recognizable features of the character, which, in-turn, could translate into loss of sales.  That makes sense to me.  I asked them if they were aware of any other "back to the reader" covers, and we could only think of a one other (A Hulk magazine).

    Care to share yours?
