OMG, I just blew my chances for the contest on that Howard the Duck.
I don’t think you’re the only one. That book had issues and did not deserve that grade at all. And somebody needs to take that CSS and resubmit it. Me and a couple of my friends independently graded it at 3.5.

To me as well -- I gave it a 9.0 VF/NM.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that Book 8 (Sub-Mariner 8) will be the Round 1 & 2 book with the largest difference between the CGC grade (8.0 VF) and the mean contestant grade (as yet unknown). That distinction is currently held by Book 5 (Secret Wars #8, Dutch Edn), where the difference was ∆ = 0.7 (CGC = 6.5 vs contestant mean = 7.2). We shall see ......
I agree. Wondering if that submariner number eight is for sale for 8.0 money. The spine on that book was gorgeous

I’m willing to bet the median grade for the FF 48 was lower than what CGC gave it. That was a gift grade.

The other groups have “clubs” for various key issues. Seems that we should have at least one for modern Comics. My apologies if this thread exists elsewhere.
Post your modern “Grail*”. Something in your personal collection and not your dealer inventory.
I’ll start us off.
*note: yes, I’m using the term “Grail” loosely. If this makes you want to fight about it, you’re kind of a weeny.

I presume I’m not the only one on here who collects things outside of comic books ?
for me, I’ve a long-standing love for vinyl and as I have with comics, I’ve spent a decent amount over the years.
Now, and it’s only just hit me recently, is that if I only collected one, I’d have a much better and valuable collection than I would spreading over 2 hobbies.
Everytime I’ve bought a 3 figure record it could have been a comic and vice versa.
if I had to pick, comics are my favourite so now I’m thinking of selling the vinyl and spending the profits entirely on comics.
anybody else collect multiple things and have this dilemma / and what would you do ?
I collect Coins, currency, video games and comics. Arguably, townhouses also. I feel your pain. But this calendar year, I decided to focus on comics only. It’s going better than I could’ve hoped. By focusing, I think I found more deals and made better purchases I’ve been more in tune with what the market was doing. Maybe consider this approach?
oh, a word of advice. Never sell one kind of collectible to buy the other kind. Only buy comics with money obtained from selling comics or fresh funds from the bank. That way, when you see a comic increase in value that you used to own, you can’t kick yourself over it because you bought other comics that increased in value during the same time frame.

Your score is right based on the table in the results post. You have 4 points.Perhaps you have a different list of scores than what is presented in the table but Mike says they are correct according to the PM you sent. Double check there perhaps.
My bad. I made a last minute change that I did not record correctly. I was calling the Batman 6.5 until the moment of truth.

You're confusing yourself by using terms that Mike has never used. Scoring is not based on grade points or half-grades. It's based on grades (which all contestants should read as grade increments). For example, the difference between 1.8 GD- and 2.0 GD is one grade increment. The difference between 6.5 FN+ and 7.0 FN/VF is one grade increment. The difference between 9.8 NM/MT and 9.9 MT is one grade increment. Capiche?
Let me recheck

So what kind of score do you need to be in the hunt in this contest?
-
I do wonder what happens when 95% of the people guess that the grade is X.0 and the grade on the slab is X.5. Would that mean that the people who guessed X.5 “correctly” are right?. I presume that the sample size of the number of books is large enough to where that won’t matter, but it is an interesting question.

I’ll be set up there. Not too far from Tampa and Orlando. Smaller show, but focused on comics. 21 comic dealers on the vendor list

The low print run is a big reason, and the cover has certain assets that attract the GGA cover collectors as well.
This. You guys keep comparing this book to Spiderman 300 and NM98. There are so many copies of those books printed, graded, and for sale it’s crazy. Popularity alone carries them. Not knocking the books because I like them myself. But price is a function of supply too, not just demand.

I used to have one of those in 9.0 before the hype. After a while I decided to trade it for something else. I brought it to shows as trade bait. I just about couldn’t give that book away. Of course I traded it for peanuts right before the announcement.

Hmmm…those might actually be TOO cold TBH. I like Jessica Jones because she’s still part of a larger universe. But each of those characters seem to be in their own separate universes. No chance of bumping into Superman, but maybe Jessica will bump into the Hulk some day?
Sorry if I’m moving the goal posts.
Lol. After writing this, I began to wonder if Jessica Jones ever met the Hulk. Interestingly, this was my first Google hit: (it’s old though)

Please cover grade this Hulk 102
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

Hey guys. The back and inside of this book are nicer than the cover. The riffle on the right edge should press out nicely. No tears or hidden defects. What do you think it will grade after a press?
