  1. It took me a while to start posting semi-regular again (in the OA forum) since the move to the new boards, and I have to admit that I haven't been on this thread for a long time I'm still active in the hobby irrespective of my post count going up on here or not. Was at the Lakes con in the UK this weekend and there were plenty enough TWD fans out there either brought in by the comics or the TV show. I had a chat with some that were primarily fans of the TV show and it sounded like they got drawn into the comic con thing after attending Walker Stalker con in London. Charlie was signing / sketching at the Factory Tap pub in Kendal which was a really small venue https://twitter.com/thefactorytap Just the upstairs was being used for the signing, the line was constantly busy but it wasn't crowded out as it was a 10min walk away from the rest of the con and there were too many events on to be able to attend them all (so a lot of the usual suspects were occupied elsewhere). I'm pretty sure that it was a breath of fresh air for anyone turning up for Charlie compared to the breadth and scale of any of the big conventions. You could just hang out in a local pub, drink pints, chat and get a sketch with zero hassle. The only down side is that the town it takes place in is tucked away up in the North West of England which can make it a bit of a pain to get to. Still enjoying the comic month on month, just wish I had the will power to save up several issues. I have always thought it reads a lot better across whole story arcs.
  2. Most of it was bought after 2012. IIRC James was originally drawn in by the TV show not the comic. He's a really nice guy and I wish him the best of luck with the sale, just read the Bleeding Cool article and the reason for selling doesn't surprise me... I sometimes feel that this hobby requires me to be a bit selfish with my time & money when I think about who really gets all the enjoyment out of it and what else I could be doing instead. It feels like things are coming full circle and it's due a correction. The big spikes in prices on the secondary market have eventually driven up prices at source to a point where a new / recent page with a character (first appeared in #98) putting in eyedrops chatting to a pretty insignificant support character (first appeared in #148) is being offered for $275 http://www.splashpageart.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=36248&ArtistId=84 . ...maybe that's still helps the pages that do sell but there are almost 900 pages being offered now. If I compare it to a non-superhero book to from when I was younger (and I could only think of one that I had stuck with for just as long... longer), if I am honest with myself there are only a handful of issues and moments out of that run way back when that I really remain interested in out of all of it. I have been watching TWD OA for a while and it's still delivering homework, it's going to be interesting to see what happens. I know that these ramblings aren't really that insightful or a revelation to a lot of people who have been in the hobby far too long... but those of us who haven't have to learn from somewhere I think the better pages will do ok considering the amount of exposure this is getting... but I also expect it to be a lot better value than what we are currently seeing from source or on ebay *looks* *scrolls*. Certainly worth a pop if you have enjoyed or still enjoy the book, for me it just depends on what else in my wheelhouse appears from now until then.
  3. Looks nice. However... after signing up I am left confused as to why it told me it was searching only 89 out of the available sources. I searched for something I knew to be in one of the sites you mentioned in the paragraph above and it wasn't found (perhaps not a site in one of the 89 it searched). That being said I only had 5 mins for a quick browse and haven't even looked for a FAQ. Also the results page was blank when nothing was found so I logged in via a different browser just to see if it was a problem at my end or if a blank white space beneath my search means nothing is found. When I searched for "Batman"results were shown. It's a small thing but getting the search to tell you when no results are found lets you know the search was successful e.g. Will definitely have a play with it to see how it feels. Thanks
  4. +1 Got a sig from Jamie Delano in pencil in the margin of my Hellblazer #1 page. Sparked an interesting conversation about how they started to put everything together including how they only just missed out on their first choice name of Hellraiser by a matter of weeks. If I hadn't loved Delano's work on the book so much then I probably wouldn't have gone there. I also have some other modern pages signed by the writer before shipping (wasn't even there) again because I really enjoyed their work. I have had other opportunities that I have passed on but mostly because of time constraints. It's your page do what you want with it if it makes you happy. A writer's signature tastefully done is not going to hurt the piece. There are things that will though, some people don't like personalisation on pieces and there are creators out there that are very used to doing that in books (another one to watch out for alongside the big red marker thing... if in doubt take a pencil with you).
  5. Interesting thread. I haven't been very active in the hobby for a few months due to work, holiday, etc ... I would have otherwise commented earlier. I too am a bit of a Moore fanboy who made the transition to OA, can't say that I appreciate the competition ( http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1347515 ) Congrats on getting your Moebius piece. That's really cool. If you want to connect with other OA collectors on the UK scene then Facebook has a nice invite only group if you haven't happened across it already. It's a bit like this place but with more of a bias towards conventions rather than auctions... shoot me a PM and I can invite you. Just expect the running "Alan Moore? Never heard of him." joke from the Marvel fanboys.
  6. It used to amaze me that nobody took action against some of these sellers http://www.ebay.com/sch/leadpink/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_ipg&_from&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684 but then comic book art and characters get ripped off every day on everything from toys to paper plates on ebay... you would have to spend so much money to try and fight it all.
  7. Ahhhh... so that was you who got those done. Saw them the other day via a friend on Facebook who messaged me some pics because he thought I would enjoy them Congrats they are both really cool especially seeing as you and Charlie are in there on the second one Oh... came here to say I updated my CAF with a few more Badger pages http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerydetailsearch.asp?artist=Bill+Reinhold&GCat=91382
  8. Is it me or is it getting chilly in here?
  9. Wow ... that's horrible. So sorry it happened.
  10. Breyfogle ... errr day-fogle http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1378733
  11. Bah.. need to get my account sorted. Haven't been around for a while. Anyway here's a link with the TOC https://www.comicbookdaily.com/ae-reviews/review-americas-best-comics-artists-edition/
  12. Quite. There are some really nice pieces in there.
  13. ...but it's all just pages from comic books for kids? Some bloke who puts on lycra and jumps around shooting webs out of his hands whilst walking up walls and battling man vultures and goblins is a novelty with or without words and a KAPOW effect ... or some dude who turns green, grows muscles and throws his toys out of his pram because people made him sad right? The way I see it anyone who buys modern art knows exactly what they are buying and probably has very similar reasons for buying it as you do with what you collect. Does that sound far fetched? I doubt they are going to be trying to put sequential pages or complete issues together to read on their walls. That would be a very expensive pull list. IMHO the math doesn't work from the ground up. Single issues are getting really pricey when it comes to getting value for your pocket money or loose change if you are a kid, let alone collecting multiple runs. That has to be hurting the future of the hobby a lot. I recall being able to get quite the haul on a weekend with a bit of pocket money, which got my collecting off of the ground.
  14. *barges into conversation* Gee... chance would be a fine thing. However I would settle for a few sweet pics of the stand and setup
  15. I am considering going to the Lakes festival again soon but it's a real trek to get there from where I live. Haven't done any write ups of the others I have been to recently really because in the UK the lineup and events can be strikingly similar year to year
  16. I still think the art from #1 - #48 is where it is at. At source there are over 750 new pages on offer (only bout 50 that are all Adlard) which is a vast inventory and a lot of talking heads with some nice stuff scattered inbetween. The new stuff is still all priced at IMHO what I would consider to be above what it would get on the secondary market. I don't know if anyone else thinks this, but that might well be doing what is on the secondary market a favour and giving it more room to grow. Personally what I consider to be really memorable of the new stuff is the final confrontation at the end of "All Out War". Issue: 126 Page: 04 $1200 Issue: 126 Page: 13 $650 They are nice, but looking back at sales a few months ago I would have been really torn about getting something older whilst it was up for grabs if I had been in the market (still busy ticking other boxes). #18 p.19 $1,500.00 Jul 10, 2016 Walking Dead #43 p.9 $650.00 Jul 10, 2016 It's a pretty safe bet that TWD will run for quite some time to come so it's impressive that the middle ground is still very much still holding its own. However, if you are looking for news ... well nothing dramatic has happened very recently, but as a whole it's been all over the place in 2016 if you browse a few pages back in this thread or on ebay and other sites, early splashes going for over $2K, DPS for more, the #51 cover for over $5K but other covers on Heritage for way more... along with several other interiors being outliers. The dust is far from settled, it's still baffling to look at at times. The "next Walking Dead" hasn't happened yet, it's still just TWD and it's probably too early for 2003 onwards to have had it's real time in the sun yet.
  17. Art day was a couple of weeks ago, just haven't gotten around to doing anything about it until now as I have had access to a decent scanner. Popped quite a few updates onto my CAF from both recently and also going back a while. http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerynew.asp?GCat=91382
  18. One of the best posts I have read on the OA boards. Thanks for sharing.
  19. This one took 3 separate visits to get both Tulip and Cassidy done but it was worth the wait (6 in total over the years so far and I hope that I get a few more opportunities to continue). It can be a test of your patience to go for stuff like this when an artist wants to make sure that as many fans as possible get something, Steve usually spends only 15 - 20mins per sketch and he has been really cool about this so far. The flip side to the long wait is that it also makes each visit more interesting. The same goes for sketch jams. When you have seen similar line ups at cons as the years go by it's fun if you have have little projects to chase (edit: it's not stalking honest). http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1341352
  20. Personally from what I have seen there isn't really a strong uptake in the TV show amongst the non comic fans I know. Also there are a lot of great shows already out there which means that people simply might not have the time to squeeze another one into their schedule unless it's really really good. It's probably going to be a little longer before any serious judgement can be passed on that. It's certainly not a bad time to sell. Plenty of fans buying up what they can from that era. TV has given the art a little push, there was certainly a bit of a rush on it when people got wind of the show, but I think the book does a great job of standing up on its own without a show which is what really keeps prices healthy amongst collectors.
  21. I like it but it seems like a bit of a leap that anyone would trust him considering he was responsible for the exact same stuff not too long ago.
