  1. Evidence? The fact that comics are being compared to shoes and stamps and there's talk about people walking away to "collect" whatever next pops up on the market as "hot" kind of sums up what I find distasteful here. I know, I know, I'm on a collector's forum but the way the financial rewards of buying comics WAY overshadows any love for the medium at all saddens me. I'm new here. I found this place when after spending too much at xmas I went to find out if any of my comics were worth anything so I could help my bank balance a little. I've stuck around because it was fascinating to me. But I'm starting to think maybe it isn't for me. I love comics. So when I hear people rejoicing at low print runs and refusing to buy a book just because it's a mini and therefore unlikely to ever be worth any money... or sometimes even not buying any book that isn't Image, I kind of despair. This is one of the most active comics forums on the internet and for me, it sucks that it is driven by money. Evidence? - Pure opinion (I have just as much right as anyone to offer it - preach). But, with the tremendous amount of people going to cons, the rise in pop culture movies and memorabilia related to comics, and shows like TWD, yeah I think comics are on the rise. And NO, not everyone up here is purely money driven. I have an extensive 'reading' pull list every month. But, you're right, this forum is a lot of speculator talk, which adds another layer to the conversation. Go over to the coin collecting society (see right panel) and see what they are talking about. Collecting means spending $$$$. Collectors also sell items and spend more $$$$$ . Welcome again. R
  2. Look at your hawl and you will feel better. (thumbs u
  3. No one says anything when someone with a huge bank roll buys a SA key for $4K (desperate seller) and lists it for $8K. Or when the same folks buy a bunch of raw keys, slab 'em, and sell 'em for 3x the $$$ It is what it is. As they say, don't hate the player hate the game.
  4. I have 'em ready to go, but haven't took the plunge yet (want to). R Do it! I want to see! If you have multiple ones holla at a brotha too. Thank goodness I was able to get a 2nd print 9.8 from Dre recently. The raw issues of the reprints that are on feebay are all beat up and have zero chance at cracking a 9.8 If I were you, I would buy 'em slabbed already. I saw a 1e for like $42 on eBay (9.8). I haven't seen too many 1c or 1d (they are scarce). I managed to put together 1 run with the a-e printings. I think they are mostly 9.8, but one could be 9.6 (it could go either way). May sub them soon, but other books take priority (ie: #4-#9 first prints).
  5. Webhead - Your sister theory makes more sense. But, I like the dialog!
  6. I have 'em ready to go, but haven't took the plunge yet (want to). R
  7. Anything collectible is bought and sold and bought and sold again. Period. Once everyone wraps their head around that, things will be better. I'm glad the issue was resolved the way it was and hope this has been a learning experience for many. Frankly, if someone offered you a book you wanted in a legitimate sale, why wouldn't you buy it? Granted there are extenuating circumstances here, but this all seemed normal until it got insane and morphed into what it became. I have never been to a con - would love to go, but alas - and I would be upset if I didn't get a book as an attendee. We can keep talking about it, but I think plenty has been said on the subject. Lessons learned. Next week, it will be forgotten (with the exception of the first one that goes for insane $$$ on eBay ) Regarding Mania Markets: Someone asked me (more than once) is this a bubble? I think - generally - more people are coming into comics of late and that is what is driving the market. Will the 'bubble' burst. Of course. When people like me and you walk away and start collecting stamps, or vintage art, or whatever kookie thing you can name. R
  8. Got a few goodies in the mail today! That #2 is 9.8 as well (flash).
  9. I think it was the one armed man, who added a zombie prosthetic. One things for sure, Sunday night will be glorious for me or an epic fail. Either way will be fun!
  10. I'm going to rewatch the last few minutes tonight... I'm almost 100% sure the governor did not expect the zombie bomb. He had a confused look on his face and then laughed in surprise. This was an unplanned event. Who else would it be...... ? Once again, I'm probably wrong but this is too much fun
  11. I may be wrong (and probably am), and I know Andrea driving the van doesn't make sense, but I would not be shocked if next week we see the driver taking off the mask and here a gasp across the world that it is her. I know it doens't make sense, but in my mind that why they would do it.
  12. Sixty seconds.... 37.2 seconds (thumbs u
  13. Yes you are. Forgive my ornery moment (and for ending the prior sentence with a preposition).
  14. Nutty. Pre-ordered mine like a month ago.
  15. Ordered it! (thumbs u Saw MIND MGMT thread and came running
  16. I thought the #1 (2nd) was the oriental archway cover... NOTE: I like this cover MUCH better than the first print
  17. Are we still talking about this... ? "I did something, but I felt bad about it, so I want to make everyone else feel bad for doing the thing I did too." Sorry my friend, but really? This whole situation was a cluster *spoon* and a lot of parties feel bad about it. I'm glad it's over and ready to move on (so the healing process can begin ) R
  18. Have to agree... Love you Kirkman, but really, no info. I guess they invite him up there for eye candy
