  1. I thought the same exact thing. And people were cheering on the sale that were involved in the discussions not too long ago. What was the deal with him? Are you referring to the seller, Symbiotic? Or are you referring to the cheerleader who was posting suggestions on how to shut this seller down and telling the seller in colorful terms to leave and that nobody wanted his "stuff"? Symbiotic. I didn't see all that other stuff. EDIT: I got Symbiotic confused with Solarcadet. My bad.

  3. Just received my Batman 251 in mail today, super fast considering I claimed it only last Friday! Book is amazing, looks even better than the scans! Steve's great to deal with, hope to buy from again!
  4. I heard a different sound. He heard about the early market hype already too. It's tough being an Aquaman fan, you get coming and going.
  5. *groan* Regardless of whether it's true or not, you can already hear the sound of Aquaman prices going BOOM as speculators scramble to get out ahead of this. Ah well, guess it's time to change collecting focus.
  6. These are great. I amazed how well done the Fleischer animation was. True classics. I love the Fleischer cartoons and I really want to have them on DVD. But there's been so many different releases of this and know many of them are not the best transfers or have undesirable tweeking. And since Amazon lumps all their reviews for a similar product together, it's hard to separate the good from the bad. Any recommendations on which release of the Fleischer Supermans to get?
  7. I must confess, I had nothing to do with this.
  8. Easy m'man. You're wrong here, but it's okay. Threadcrapping is real, and people do get strikes for it. If you don't see that in the rules you've been looking at, it doesn't mean it's not true. And your post, calling out a seller's prices in his sales thread, is the #1 definition of threadcrapping. You probably won't get a strike for it, but you might. Or you might get a wrist slap. But whether or not that happens, please understand that on the CGC Message Boards, questioning a seller's grades or prices in their thread is considered threadcrapping, and it's a no-no. Speedy if true then why is it not written where someone can learn the rules without having things be pointed at them? This is the written rule for buyers: Technically, it doesn't mention threadcrapping. However, the fact that it only directs how a buyer can claim an item is significant. Since these are sales threads - not discussion threads - this rule is operating under the assumption that the only thing a buyer will be posting in a sales thread is an "I'll take it". Therefore, anything beyond that is superfluous and can run the risk of veering into threadcrap territory. If a potential buyer has question about the items for sale - such as the pricing - he's certainly welcome to ask those question through PM. That way there's no danger of disrupting a member's sales thread.
  9. I didn't realize that I was threadcrapping, so I'll learn from it and move on. Not sure what constitutes threadcrapping, so I'll go looking for other rules threads. I see so much randomness posted in numerous sales threads that I'm a bit puzzled at the moment. See the bolded section. "Nudging" is allowed if the member's thread is in violation of the rules. It's already been established that this member's thread, while not ideal, was within the parameters of the rules. There was no rule violation, therefore no "nudging" should be allowed in the thread. Edit to add: To help clarify what a threadcrap may be, it's instructive to understand what a "nudge" actually is. Arch has given very specific instructions on how to nudge: you politely paste the section of rules that the member is violating without extraneous comment. None of the comments in this particular members sales thread did that. They definitely were not nudges. Another way to look at threadcrapping: ask yourself, would I appreciate someone making this comment directly in my sales thread? Or would I prefer that he PM me about it?
  10. don't want to get my message lost in the translation. I did not say that he violated a rule, but that he did not provide the necessary information to have his sales thread be more successful. Violation of the rules is the justification for posting in someone's sales thread. If there's no violation of the rules, then there shouldn't have been any comments made, helpful or otherwise. These are sales threads, not discussion threads. We can all look at someone else's sales thread and see things that we think could be done differently or better, but ultimately it's that member's sales thread and, provide they're not violating the rules, they can list however they want. The desire to be helpful is understandable and commendable, but such helpful suggestions should be made via PM, if at all.
  11. Welcome to the boards, mttemp! You may have more success at getting responses to your request for the Uncle Scrooges and Super Goofs by posting in the Want To Buy thread. It's specifically geared for such requests. Best of luck on completing your Whitman set.
  12. Yes, if he's been buying from the "big auction houses" as jop said, I would think he would be accustomed to paying for shipping with tracking. I doubt they would ship without tracking.
  13. Yes. In a perfect world, yes. However, if the buyer was responsible, he would have paid for shipping with tracking. The fact he's willing to gamble with your money (since Paypal will side with him) on untracked shipping already indicates a level of irresponsibility. You did the right thing.
  14. I dont think this show will do anything in terms of value to DD books quite frankly other than issue 1. I am more interested to know if they have announced actors, premise, etc to know if they are serious about making this thing work and give us a series that will last. And I hope they stay away from Kingpin and Elektra. There is a lot mote to Daredevil then that premise. I'm very fond of Daredevil, particularly the Miller run, but the Bendis and Waid run as well. One of the only characters I can honestly say I've enjoyed reading throughout the years - and can still find enjoyment in re-reading them. So initially I was a bit disappointed that DD was getting a limited TV show and not another movie. But after reflecting on it, it might be for the best. When a character gets the movie treatment, it seems like there's the pressure to make the story earth-shatteringly huge with a capital H to justify the movie treatment. I think that's one of the reasons they felt the need to cram DD's origin and the entire Elektra saga into the first movie - all of which could have been better developed over the course of three movies. But with a TV series, hopefully there's less of a need to make ever episode "epic" and stories can be more intimate and character-centric. With lots of action too. I genuinely hope this is done well. But the Agent's of SHIELD show doesn't inspire me with a lot of confidence.
  15. I've tried having sales threads in Mixed and the results were very poor. Granted, though, I'm not listing anything of the caliber that Dale is. I finally did the two separate threads thing, which was a little more work. But I sold several Silver and Bronze books that I had listed several times in Mixed without results. Didn't really sell anything in my Copper/Modern thread. I guess that stuff was holding me back.
  16. +1 New members or the uniformed need a heads up about this stuff. Then it's up to them if they want to do business. I appreciate Matt bringing up the issue here. I had no idea who he was before that. Kind of embarrassed to admit that since apparently he's been pretty influential in the hobby. I had actually looked at several items he had for sale on eBay. Most were over-graded in my opinion, but there were a couple that looked pretty close to spot-on and I was tempted. Now that I'm aware of this issue with Matt and the issues BLB has had in the past, I'll be steering completely clear of his items from now on. I know that doesn't really do anything to make Matt whole, but I'm thankful for the heads-up. Even though it sounds like BLB manages to take care of his eBay customers, I would prefer not to business with someone who has had this many issues.
  17. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this because it's a "Collecting" thread, not an "Appreciation" thread so if it's out of line I apologize. I was reading through my Showcase reprints of Aquaman and I noticed that in the mid-20s issue numbers the art style changes a bit. I mean, the pencil artwork is still clearly Cardy, but it seems like the inking style changes back and forth. Some issues the inks seem a bit crude, another issue the inks are bold and simplified, some issues they're scratchy and almost seemed rushed in some panels. (I don't think I'm doing a good job describing this) Anyway, I know creative credits can be sketchy from this period but did Cardy ink all of his work on this series and was just experimenting with different styles of inking? Or was there a series of different uncredited inkers during this time?
  18. What's the cut-off date for Bronze Age books when selling here on the boards? I've always gone by the '83-'84 date used by the Overstreet Graiding Guide and eBay. But I know some are persnickety about it ending in '79. I'm not so much worried about offending someone's sensibilities as I am about making sure I get the most eyeballs of potential buyers on stuff they might be interested in.
  19. Bought 2 CGC Daredevil books from him, they were packed very securely and were shipped promptly. Easy to communicate with on all aspects of the transaction. Thank you!
  20. This brings memories! This was the 1st OSPG I bought, still have it somewhere.. I studied it inside out and it shows .. Albeit the Disney cover this had Indie B&W boom hype written all over it! How funny! That was my first OSPG too! I'll have to get around to re-acquiring one these days for nostalgia's sake.
  21. I remember getting these as a kid and I'm almost 100% positive they had a cardboard header. Sorry I can't help out more on value. Had a ton of movie gum cards as a kid, often been tempted to collect them but never felt I had enough income/space to collect cards as well as comics. I'm pretty sure they're worth more than 2 bucks though. Shouldn't have a problem making your money back.
  22. One of the things that I think is cool about #37 is that it's one of the comics featured on the cover of Batman #199.
  23. Sorry for the poor pictures, I don't have a slab scanner. Got this last week thanks to godofthunder: There's a story beind this book: I decided about 3 weeks before the deadline for submission that I wanted to go for this. I found a nice early Aquaman issue for a decent price and ordered it. When I got the book I discovered it was restored - the cover was glued on at the top staple. The seller was good about it, took the book back no fuss, no muss. But now I only had a week before the deadline. I managed to find this book on eBay from a seller who lived in my state. Had to have the book express mailed from him and then to the facilitator, but I just made it under the wire. Actually, after all the stress, I'm very happy how this turned out. I like this Aquaman issue better than the first one I ordered, one of my favorite Cardy covers.
  24. Got this in the mail this week: I'm usually pretty leary of getting raw books off eBay, but this was a pleasant surprise. Very sharp, colors really pop!
  25. Picked these up in the last couple of weeks: This is in really tight shape and got it for a song. Don Newton's first work on Aquaman. I love Don Newton and I love Aquaman, but I must admit that the two are not the most complimentary. Newton's style was much better suited for Batman. Very happy to have this back in my collection! Love the cover on 11! The writing is dull and the art is nothing to write home about, but the covers are great and I dig the whole "the truth is out there!" tone. Kinda always procrastinated on getting this series again ever since I had to sell 1 and 2 years ago. But this was a nice NM and didn't have to pay a premium for it.
