  1. Doesn't the 30 day only apply if you're actually trying to nominate someone to the PL/seek resolution through the PL Discussion? It sounds like Slym wants to forgo that so he can just move on and sell his books.
  2. I read your thread and thought about commenting, but since I wasn't in the market for X-books it felt a bit hypocritical. You asked about your grading and pricing: I bought a couple of books from you awhile back. I was very pleased with your grading, and I was comfortable with the price ( though if you look at my sales thread, it's clear I tend to over-pay for stuff ) Like others have said, I think it's just an unfortunate combo of buyers demanding ultra-high grade and/or expecting bargin-box prices.
  3. That was the first Transformer I got as a kid, I remember how excited I felt when I first spotted it at Gemco. Brings back memories, thanks for sharing!
  4. link? http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6802762#Post6802762 Yeesh. He's also got the PP 3%, and prices 25% above his own quoted GPA. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6808769#Post6808769 *sigh* *shiver* I dont understand what "Please keep in mind the books are pretty much maximized." means.... that sounds like they are pressed, but then he suggests they could be improved with pressing. What does "maximized" mean? He could mean that the pictures of the books are maximized in size, therefore the obvious defects that are jumping out at everybody look worse in the pictures then they actually do in hand. I'm not defending the seller's style of listing, just taking a stab at what he means. He means "I would rather overgrade than undergrade". I went back and re-read his statement - you're right. Which is odd. If the books are "maximized"(over-graded) how do they have grade bump potential from pressing as he claims?

  6. Rodney bought some books from my sales thread. His messages were always polite and prompt, he made a very reasonable offer and paid immediately. Hope we can do business again. Thanks!
  7. I just listed some Peter David/Todd McFarlane Incredible Hulk books - issues #336 through #358 - in a thread I have in the miscellaneous section most of the books are very high grade.
  8. The OSPG is useless. The best way to gauge pricing is looking at completed e-bay sales. You can't really go off of online dealer prices because you don't know if they are actually selling books for their listed prices or not. +1 I always look at ebay sold prices and undercut it when selling here. I would qualify that by saying that eBay sales data is useful if you compile it for at least 6 months. eBay's completed auctions only go back 30 days and since sales on eBay tend to be erratic such a short period of time might not give you an accurate picture. I just saw Neil's good-bye thread in CG so I don't know if he's still reading this, but I have a current OSPG. I know the prices aren't spot-on, but I don't think it's "totally worthless" either. People may not pay those prices but at least you know they're starting point when they expect X% off. Anyway, if you want I can scan the pages you need and PM them to you. Just message me if you want that. GLWTS.
  9. Again, let me stress that I agree that this whole thing reeks. However, at the risk of beating a dead horse, let me again point out that under the current regime, "we" don't set the bar for a successfully completed transaction - the parties directly involved in the transaction set that bar. Based on the last word from the parties directly involved in the transaction, the transaction seems completed. Now, it seems that an amendment might be under consideration to change this... I understand. And I agree that as the rules stand now, ultimately it's up to Jo Seph whether he wants to take it any further. We as the community really can't force anything to happen. I think my concern is that I didn't want Jo Seph to feel obligated to accept this resolution. It sounded to me (and it's just my impression, I could have misread it) that some were saying that this was an acceptable resolution and he should be happy with it. I mean, I get it. Is some money better than no money? Yes. Is this a satisfactory outcome? In my opinion no. Should Jo Seph be happy with this outcome? I wouldn't be but that's me. I just didn't want Jo Seph to somehow feel pressured by the community to accept this outcome. My expressions about how I think this should be resolved wasn't about getting the community to force the issue but rather that if he wanted to pursue it we as the community would back him up. As things stand now, it's better than nothing. But it's definitely not satisfactory and Jo Seph is entitled to more should he decide to pursue it.
  10. You are righteous, I am flawed. If this is were we're going to set the bar for a successfully completed transaction then the Probation list is going to become about as worthless as the Kudos thread.
  11. I'm sorry but it sounds kind of flippant with other people's money. $60+ may be chump-change for you guys but that's a bit of money for me. Especially since Jo Seph lost this money just so the seller could make a quick buck - there's the principle of it. It sounds like some are quick to toss principles under the bus just because "well it wasn't a complete catastrophe and you got most of your money back so you should be happy"
  12. It's a weird situation for sure. Since he kind of had dibs first, I'd be willing to sell it to Jo Seph for what I paid for it, which was a bit more than what he paid. and here is ANOTHER issue...if BleuHawaii paid more for the book (which is what I think most of us suspected) then JoSeph is also owed the difference in price, at minimum, since it was technically Joseph's book that was sold. You beat me too it! Typing on this pad is really slow.
  13. It's a weird situation for sure. Since he kind of had dibs first, I'd be willing to sell it to Jo Seph for what I paid for it, which was a bit more than what he paid. Nice. Since the seller profited off this shenanigan he should give Jo Seph half the profit of the second sale as well as the $60+ that he's out on transaction fees. I doubt that'll happen though. I have a feeling that now that the seller has escaped the Probation list he'll probably just disappear.
  14. It's a very odd situation. Even if he made things right with both buyers (refund to one, book to the other), it just feels like a swarmy engagement. If it hadn't come up here, would there have been a third buyer? Being that he DID make things right with both buyer and seller, then everything else is conjecture. Did he make everything right? The first buyer didn't get his book and won't get his book because it was sold to someone else. He is apparently also out $30 in PayPal fees. I've seen these situations go a heck of a lot wronger. Often there's no actual comic at all, and no refund either. So then everything's cool?
  15. I appreciate your efforts to be reasonable and a "glass half full" kind of guy. But if the seller is going to unilaterally decide to cancel the sale with you to sell the book to someone else, you sould receive a full and complete refund, including the WU fees since that's the payment method he insisted on. I know the seller isn't making any money on the Paypal fees, but it's his responsibility to refund in a way that doesn't incurr a loss to you The fact that the seller sold the book to someone else without making sure a refund was on it's way to you first is really bad behavior and he needs to go the extra mile to make it right.
  16. I believe that was Picasso wasn't it?
  17. I've always thought the same thing about Showcase #30 and Aquaman #1, but I guess that's a bit off-topic.
  18. Batman #62, that's my rosebud. Back in '88 when I was about 16/17 I was on this kick for Conan comics, #1 was my current grail at the time. My LCS had finally posted a copy of #1 and #2 on the wall and I actually had them at the register, but was debating because I was a condition freak and they weren't quit as nearminty as I would have liked. The sales person suggested 'you know, if you're going to invest that kind of money, you might want to consider this Batman #62" She pulled it off the wall and it was a very nice, old book. Figured, yeah I like Batman, why not? Paid $70 for it. It was a sweet copy, probably at least a VF/VF+. The problem was that at that age and point in my collecting experience, I didn't fully appreciate what I had: a double digit issue of Batman, a pre-code issue, origin of a popular villain, rare high-grade condition. When I got out of comics around '92 the value had more than quadrupled. I traded it to a friend of mine for a couple of minty carded Mego Star Trek figures. After I got back into collecting comics again around 2000, for a long time that loss dogged me. I mean, at this point an identical copy is hopelessly beyond my reach. I often found myself trying to duplicate that kind of acquisition, but finally had to come to terms with the fact that nothing like that's gonna happen again. I just have to comfort myself with the fact that while it's a really cool, valuable key, I really didn't have any sentimental attachment to it. Still, I think about it every once in awhile and kick myself all over again. As an aside: I know longer have the Trek figures that I traded for either, and while I do love those Megos, they can be easily had for half of what I traded for.
  19. I have my books that are in Gold/Silver Mylites + Gold Archives in a magazine box now, but I don't care for it because there's too much extra room. I was hoping I could find a comic box that would be a better fit for these. I e-mailed Hot Flips not too long ago and asked them what the inside dimensions of their comic short box was. They responded that it's 13 3/4 x 10 1/4 x 8". If those measurements are accurate that should be big enough to accommodate Gold/Silver Mylites. I'm planning on ordering more bags/boards from them soon, think I'll try one of these short boxes. If it's not big enough, I guess I'll have an extra ready for my regular size comics. I'll post my results.
  20. Ok, fixed. (thumbs u Well, here's a couple of books from this title I actually DO own, my nostalgic favorites of the series. Like most kids growing up in the 70's, my first exposure to comic characters was through cartoons, TV shows and toys. Because of the Marvel Star Wars comic adaptation, I thought super hero comics were the spin-offs, not the other way around. On one of our trips to the library when I was 6 or 7 I discovered Bring On the Bad Guys. I don't know how I found it because it was in the art book section. Anyway, at the time I had just seen Creature of the Black Lagoon on TV so the Abomination made a HUGE impression on me. Bring On, Son of Origins, and Batman/Superman 30's - 70's were my first clue that comics had a history that went beyond the current TV shows and merchandise. When I started collecting comics as a teen, I searched through the OSPG notations for the Incredible Hulk looking for the 1st appearance of the Abomination and, of course, never found it. When I started collecting again a few years ago, I checked out Bring On from the library again and this time actually read Stan's commentary (as a kid, I was only interested in the comics) and discovered that the story was reprinted from TTA. These issues are what really got me turned onto super hero comics as a kid, nice to have them back in my collection.
  21. Forgive me for diverting the thread with a newbie question, but it just occurred to me: Is it bad form to post pictures of books you don't own in an appreciation thread? I mean, the pictures I posted are of books that most likely belong to someone on the boards. They really deserve the bragging rights to these books.
  22. My focus is on collecting the TTA that have the Hulk, but I'm beginning to appreciate more and more the pre-hero issues. Wish I had the discretionary funds to afford nice copies of those books. The examples in this thread are really stunning. I really like #8 (love mummy covers!) but I'm especially partial to #34. When I was about 10, I found a copy of Monsters on the Prowl #29 at a swap meet and thought it was super-cool. While I prefer the Hulk covers to the Sub-Mariners, I really like #71 and especially #78.
  23. Just sold 3 books to him. Followed all my rules, good communication, and paid promptly. Hope I can sell to him again! Thanks again! Matt
