  1. Here are a few books from my first submission which arrived a short while ago. I really thought that some books would have a shot at getting above a 9.8, especially the top two square bound books on the right. They were basically perfect copies. The Darkness 9.6 has a ncb spine tick on the back cover... but that's it. The Darkchylde 9.6... beats me. Looks identical to the 9.8. But overall, I'm pretty happy (especially with the B&W books, which people said couldn't be done).
  2. I love this cover... it'll go into my sig eventually.
  3. -1 -1? What, everyone has to be okay with having signatures on their books? We take our SS books seriously in the TMNT thread Yeah, I got that impression after my light-hearted preference was shot down like that... eek!
  4. -1 -1? What, everyone has to be okay with having signatures on their books?
  5. Very nice set... congrats! But marker squiggles on such nice copies... Nooooooo...!
  6. STUNNING! Anyone would be hardpressed to find a better presenting for the grade. Congrats Ditto. An exceptional 1.0!
  7. Seriously? Because a seller ignores you and you want to nominate him/her? When a seller doesn't get back to me after a week, I would send another request and after that I wouldn't care as I saved myself money I can tell you that the nominator has/will go on the 'list' of many people who do business here. Yuuuup! So let me get this straight... because I called a guy out on his poor business practices (for a sale that just needed a price to be done, for stringing me along over the course of a few weeks, wasting my time, and pretty much making me feel like I wasn't worth a response), then in your minds, I somehow come out as the bad guy? Wow. Humanity continues to surprise me with it's utter foolishness. But if you feel that you need to block me for that, then by all means, do so. I did preface everything with "I'm not sure if this is exactly probation-list material..." Everyone seems to love ignoring that fact, even though I mentioned it at least twice. I checked the prerequisites for nomination, and it doesn't state completed transactions, which is why I wasn't sure. I even did a number of searches for the topic, but nothing relevant turned up. It was either post here, or in "comic general." This seemed like the better fit. I wanted to post what he did here so that there were some minor consequences for his actions. At the very least, it's people knowing how he handled himself. It's no different than a review of sorts. This shouldn't be hard to understand. And that's all I'll say about the subject. You asked in the right place. No worries. With some of the stuff that happens here and with ebay sales your "rude seller" is not even on the radar by comparison. You appear to be a high maintenance buyer which some sellers would rather avoid. (thumbs u Yeah, I can agree with that. I've read some of the horror stories on these boards. Actually, I'm pretty easy to deal with. Kind and courteous is always the best policy imho, for both buyer and seller. I sell books once in a while myself, so I know what sellers go through from that perspective. And if we decide to part ways without a sale, then that's fine; just don't me off.

  9. For realz? Yes. The PL serves a dual function to compel members to find a solution when a transaction has gone bad or fails to be completed once terms are agreed upon and to warn other members of nefarious characters. I stated from the beginning that I wasn't sure if this earns him PL status, but at the very least, I wanted others who may research this guy to know what sort of character they are dealing with. So I think that at the very least, this qualifies for the part in bold. Do you seriously feel someone not responding to a request to look for a book is PL worthy? Where did I say that I contacted him to look for a book for me? Would you want someone to have their reputation ruined because they became busy at work or forgot or decided to say he has better things to do than look for your book? Of course not. Did you skip parts of my post or something? That is not what happened here. I get it was rude to not respond but if you send PM after PM and they go unanswered take a hint that the guy doesn't care enough for your business. Yes, I got the hint. I gave up expecting a response about a week ago.
  10. Yep. I tried here, Ebay, and even his personal email address that he gave me. Nada. He hasn't replied to two messages via PM on the boards; the first he read and decided not to reply, the second is still unread. Also, I'm not sending him messages five times a day. I send one, wait a couple of days. Send another, wait four or five days.
  11. Well, it was pretty close. If he would've given a price, I probably would've bought it. For sale? - check Condition? check Price? - ? Do you have this book? Let me check... Yes I do! Not sure about the price yet. Great! How does it look? Let me check... 9.6! I'll get you some scans by the end of the week. Great! In the meantime, any idea about an asking price? *silence* Well, I found these prices in case that helps... *silence* It's Sunday... *silence* Etc. *silence* Etc. *silence* Etc. *silence* This was over the course of a few weeks that he kept me in suspense. It's not a pleasant feeling, especially for a book that I've been searching for. And he knew it was hard to come by. As I said, BEYOND rude.
  12. Only one pitchfork? They don't make peasants like they use to. Pitchforks were shipped Media Mail. Any day now. They don't qualify for media mail! Be prepared to either not receive them, or get charged extra.
  13. Nope, no deal was made. There probably would have been had he kept his word and followed through with scans and a price, but he just stopped replying for no reason. Kept me in the dark this entire time, ignoring every message, and continues to be active on Ebay. I'd still be pissed if he'd said that he changed his mind, but this is even worse. Well, he did find the comic and told me it's a high-grade 9.6. So he wouldn't be able to say that he couldn't find the book. But if it's not PL material, then that's okay. I had to try, though.
  14. I'm not sure if this is exactly probation-list material, but here goes. I'll try and keep it brief and list only the major points. I contacted an Ebay seller by the name of "comicsareruiningmylife" on 05/21, asking him if he has a particular book for sale. He responded saying that he'll check, and it turns out that he's a member on these boards: "kvargas." We start chatting over here. He informs me that he does indeed have a copy, but he's still trying to find price data for it. He checked the book, and it's high grade. He tells me that he'll send me a scan of the book later in the week when he gets home. I asked for a price in the meantime. No response. I PM'd him some past prices that I found to see if that would help. No response. He never sent the scan of the book, so I PM'd him again on 06/08 just as a reminder. No response, and this message remains unread to this day. I proceeded to try and contact him over the next two weeks: once through Ebay, and once via his email address. No response. Now, normally I would think that perhaps he had a family emergency, is out of town, or something else happened that caused him to stop replying so abruptly (and for no reason that I can see). However, he continues to list books on Ebay, almost on a daily basis! That, in my opinion, is BEYOND rude. To string me along like that over the course of a few weeks and not even have the decency to send a quick response letting me know what's up, thereby keeping me in a state of limbo while wasting my time, shows a complete lack of respect for a fellow boardie/collector/person. Hence, this possible PL nomination.
  15. And yet... copper falls to earth when you drop it. Um...gravity and electromagnetism are two entirely different forces.... I was just offering a possibility regarding your observation. So far, gravity has not been completely proven/explained. Science is always revising what it once thought was "fact." It's easy to assume that these two things might be connected: 1. An object with a strong magnetic field pulling a specific metal to itself. 2. A large object pulling another object to itself because of a gravitational field. Perhaps Magneto can control more than just electromagnetic fields, or the EMF's are also part of the gravitational field. Just a thought.
  16. And yet... copper falls to earth when you drop it.
  17. It's pretty common that the cover art is released before the book. If we are using that as a judge for 1st appearance, I see why this conversation is still going on. I'd be interested in seeing some examples of something similar to the Malibu Sun #13 - Spawn #1 comparison. But if you're just talking about cover art located on a page inside a book somewhere, then you've conveniently decided to ignore most of my post to try and prove a point. It doesn't work that way. Here. Just an ad for The Crow. A different category than the preview/ small ad preview. Cult character, full back cover http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEADWORLD-10-VARIANT-THE-CROW-1st-Appearance-RARE-Pre-Caliber-Presents-1-NM-/161301247082?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item258e4db46a I wouldn't consider that a first appearance since it doesn't have the same art, nor is it on the front cover. It's little more than a "got milk?" ad, in my opinion. Ask the forumite that spent over $4,000 for that cover because amongst hardcore Crow fans they appreciate this more than you may realize. - It is not a preview of any upcoming artwork - It is a full-page painting versus a tiny mention in a preview magazine - It never shows up in the series There are quite a few Crownuts that would love to be Comix4fun and own that piece. Well, to each their own. I know that some collectors chase ads, prototypes, or any earliest mention of a character. That's fine. What I was trying to point out is why Malibu Sun #13 could be considered an actual first appearance, as opposed to just an advertisement such as The Crow in Deadworld #10. That "ad" was Caliber launching their entire company with their first new character in a series that already had people buzzing long before it hit shelves. It's the first time the character ever appeared in publication. It's not a "mention" or "prototype" is was specifically crafted to launch the company and the series. They had a lot of eggs in the Crow basket and this piece was a launching point for all of it. When you've got a character that exploded the way The Crow did, and continues to be in print, and developed for Movies/TV 25 years later, the launching point for all of it, the exact point of origin, is pretty important. But it's still just an ad. On the back of a comic that I've never heard of until today. Whether the title and/or company succeeded or flopped has no bearing on the relevance of the appearance (regarding the points as I previously described). Malibu Sun #13 comes closer to an actual first appearance because it combines a lot of factors. I never said that your OA or the back cover ad of Deadworld #10 wasn't important. I only stated that I didn't think it should be considered a "first appearance" resembling a cameo in comics, for reasons previously stated. Eh. Nice artwork, but I can think of better ways to spend 4 grand. It's just not my cup of... milk? I have a feeling the art market would blow your hair back if you flinch at $4k for the first time anyone ever saw a character in print that went on to 4 feature films, a TV series, a fifth feature film in the works, and endless millions in merchandising along with 25 consecutive years in publication. Someone paid over $650k for a McFarlane cover with Spider-man nut-punching the Hulk. There aren't a lot better ways to spend $4k in comic art. Why are you taking this so personally? I know that you own the OA and like The Crow and all, but relax. I'm not attacking you or your art. I wasn't even the one to bring it up in the first place. Bosco showed me a picture, so I said that "I" could think of better ways to spend 4k. I even said that it's not something I'd care to collect. I am aware of what some OA fetches at auctions. It just doesn't interest me much. I never said that spending 4 grand would be limited to comic OA, now did I? (And when did I "flinch?") We were just having a fun debate. I only joined the conversation because I find the case of Malibu Sun #13 and Spawn #1 intriguing. Okay? Oh, I'm not taking it personally. If I were taking it personally all the angry smileys would come out. It's just that I've got about 25 years into the whole OA thing, and I've seen it all. It sounded like a dismissal of the piece and it's place in Caliber/Comic history. That's where I felt I had to fill in with some info. It's not his "1st appearance" in a story sense, it's just the first time anyone, anywhere, saw this character in print. So it's a hair split. In this case, I just knew the history of the company and this was their launch vehicle and it wound up being wildly successful and incredibly resilient over time. It's rare to be able to trace all that success to the first image every published. So it's important but it's not a story page. Okay, good. Because then I might have to start taking it personally. And then neither one of us would stop and the thread would go poof!. But seriously, I didn't intend for the comment to be interpreted in a negative way. I thought that adding "it's just not my cup of... milk?" would've assured that. Let's consider it a misunderstanding. I also didn't realize how important the piece is. That being said, I still wouldn't spend $4k on it (unless I intended to resell it). The artwork is pretty good, though. Nice piece. (thumbs u

  19. BINGO! Yep, we've been dancing around that point for a while now...
  20. But... I didn't bring it up as an example. Lonzilla did. I only used his example to show that it wasn't apples to apples with MS13, as Bronty mentioned.

As artwork, the first published crow art is very cool. But as a comic book, the first published crow image on a back cover is less impressive. It depends on what you appreciate and admire that helps determine what you want to collect. Of course the 1st full appearance is Caliber Presents 1. But for a fan of the character, and this being a unique piece which is not a preview of the same artwork that is coming up, Crow fans love it and cherish it. Now as far as that preview book for Spawn, is that really an appearance as well? Or is that more an apple you like to take a bite out of? We've passed the line of "splitting hairs territory" some time back. But I consider MS13 more than just an advertisement, yet less than a storyline appearance/cameo. I think there's enough material to make it a first appearance prior to Spawn #1, but it really comes down to each individual's preferences.
