  1. It's pretty common that the cover art is released before the book. If we are using that as a judge for 1st appearance, I see why this conversation is still going on. I'd be interested in seeing some examples of something similar to the Malibu Sun #13 - Spawn #1 comparison. But if you're just talking about cover art located on a page inside a book somewhere, then you've conveniently decided to ignore most of my post to try and prove a point. It doesn't work that way. Here. Just an ad for The Crow. A different category than the preview/ small ad preview. Cult character, full back cover http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEADWORLD-10-VARIANT-THE-CROW-1st-Appearance-RARE-Pre-Caliber-Presents-1-NM-/161301247082?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item258e4db46a I wouldn't consider that a first appearance since it doesn't have the same art, nor is it on the front cover. It's little more than a "got milk?" ad, in my opinion. Ask the forumite that spent over $4,000 for that cover because amongst hardcore Crow fans they appreciate this more than you may realize. - It is not a preview of any upcoming artwork - It is a full-page painting versus a tiny mention in a preview magazine - It never shows up in the series There are quite a few Crownuts that would love to be Comix4fun and own that piece. Well, to each their own. I know that some collectors chase ads, prototypes, or any earliest mention of a character. That's fine. What I was trying to point out is why Malibu Sun #13 could be considered an actual first appearance, as opposed to just an advertisement such as The Crow in Deadworld #10.

  4. 99.999999999% - All of us except MrWeen and the guy who just listed SA #4 on eBay for $99. I mean... it's a bit ridiculous, right? I am all for collector weirdness. If I want to collect all things Thanos, SURE I want to pick up that issue of Marvel Age, why not? I see no problem with simply pointing out weird/oddball stuff like that. Just don't try to point to, a non story, "first time the image of a character sees print" and try to call it a "first appearance". Just pointing to the literal definition of the word "first", and the word "appearance", does not an argument make. This hobby, which is built on people reading stories, is mostly interested in characters that appear, in stories. This is what a "first appearance" means, in comic collecting. There is nothing wrong with collecting the first time the image of a character appears in print. Nothing at all. If it floats your boat, buy every Malibu Sun 13 that your heart desires. Just understand what you are talking about. The first time the image of a character appears in print. NOT the first appearance of the character. Though I would never use a Thanos appearance in Marvel Age as an example when discussing oddball collectibles I can assure you that I understand what I am talking about. Go take a look at the Overstreet definition or a litany of other definitions. I have yet to see one that lists the need to be part of the story as a first appearance requirement. In fact Overstreet defines a first appearance as: Same as debut. And they define debut as the first time a character appears anywhere. Yea you read that right...anywhere. By the way it looks like the market has already spoken about Malibu 13, it regularly sells for significantly more than Spawn 1. For those who type the word market in response to my plea for historical accuracy then what say you concerning a book like Malibu 13? The point is you can't have it both ways. Hey bud I collect weirdness too! Let me be clear. You have no idea what you are talking about. Why don't you go and try this in the Golden Age, Silver Age and Bronze Age thread and see how far you go. Trust me you won't go very far. What part don't you understand that your view on first appearances is utter nonsense, No one has taken you seriously in months. To be honest, you are just wasting your time even posting on the boards. Take some time off, re-evaluate your stance on first appearances and come back when your views change or you are willing to listen. People are entitled to their opinion. Whether you agree with them or not is entirely up to you. Everyone on here can voice how they feel or what they believe.... To insult people or try and people into an arguement is immature, unproductive and doesn't do anything except start flame wars. I am not hear to start an argument or flame war. It is not a insult to MrWeen. MrWeen has been the butt of jokes for months now. Nothing new. MrWeen occassionally has some good insight but if MrWeen wants to be taken seriously that stance on first appearances has to change. MrWeen's views are just confusing the new collectors to the hobby. Malibu Sun #13 has a few things going for it (in no order of importance): 1. The size closely resembles a comic book. 2. It has practically the same cover as Spawn #1, but the eyes are red (think "prototype design"). 3. It says "SPAWN" on the front cover. 4. The back cover features Spawn. 5. It's much scarcer than the tons of Spawn #1's floating around. All of these things combine to make that book desirable to own (I do not own one). Is it a first appearance? Not in story, but it's hard to ignore the same cover art...
  5. Matteo helped me with a purchase that I couldn't do alone. I'm very grateful that he was willing to assist me as I now have a book that I've been looking for in high grade for a while. He packaged it extremely well, too! There was absolutely no chance of damage during transit. He is truly an asset to this forum.
  6. Your " I'm nostradamus" attitude towards every comic that gets hot is getting quite old. Almost every single book that you talk about was hot sometime in the past. This book was hot the day it was published for the same reason its getting hot today, its a first appearance. Big whoop. " I saw this coming" Yeah me too buddy, thats why I bought 10 copies the day they were released.... 20 freaking years ago.... You're a little late bub. Considering there are what.. about a million copies of this book out there, if it continues this pricing in 9.8 it will go down after mass submissions and stabalize around $75. Simply too many copies out there in high grade. Supply in 9.8 is currently lower than it should be, that explains the price. Someone needs to say it. So it might as well be you? Sure, why not? I feel a certain way and I let it be known, im not one to hide that. Im just trying to let you know, it is honestly getting old. I truley appreciate your contributions to the forum, but your egotistical comments about how you KNEW this or that so LONG ago and trying to convey some type of superiority of picking books is laughable at first and then gets really annoying. Im just one person, maybe I'm wrong. I just felt I should say something. If I came across, or still come across as being mean or rude, I appoligize. Im not one to walk on eggshells. 1) I don't care how you feel 2) I'll say what I want and I don't see you contributing anything to the boards, never said the books I pick are going to make everyone rich, really isn't much out there to begin with 3) see #1 You not careing how I feel has no bearing on whether or not I express myself. You can claim what you want, but the fact is, you are spending a lot of time responding for someone who doesnt care. I dont believe people getting rich off your " picks" was ever a complaint I made. I beleive my post was about how unoriginal your picks are, and then claiming " you picked them first" Or " Long ago" Implying you thought of it first, when in fact all ( most?) of your picks are re-treaded, or even so obvious it's absurd. Fact is, you are right, Xmen Vol 2 # 4 is heating up on ebay in 9.8. It's been going for $65-75 and seems to be heading toward the $85-100 average, at least until more 9.8s become available. The problem I have is how you post it: I told you, I knew it, i called it, I picked it.... ages ago... long ago..i'm the man! It's annoying. I wont take away from this thread anymore, ive said all that needs to be said on this subject. Well if it's annoying then I'll keep doing it! People here seem to think what they do and say isn't annoying either? I am not "friends" here with anyone, I don't talk to anyone here, I don't like anyone here. If someone on here knows me, they get my sense of humor. You actually think for one second what I say on the boards is how I am in person? I am here to make everyone on the board miserable cause these boards are pretty useless and it's filled with overly sensitive basement dwellers who buy SS CGC comics so they can stand in line for 6 hours so they can get a head sketch by the artist they put on a pedestal cause he draws big boobs on Mary Jane / Harley Quinn or some other big breasted female character that isn't real that gets them excited. How's that? Am I being really annoying now??? Don't like it? Get off the internet and go cry about it. Just wondering... is Two-Face your favorite comic book character?
  7. My first transaction with Brock couldn't have been better! Shipped securely and in less than twenty-four hours. Besides getting a very good price for the books, he threw in a bunch of extras! These are the books that I won (auction-style): And these are the extras that were included: Thanks Brock!
  8. Yep, that didn't go well here and there. I thought it ended well enough though. From what I observed, some people on this site just don't like to support their point of view. It appears to be mostly a take it or leave it mentality... Dude, you come on strong and you know it. That's cool, but don't act like you don't. I 100% own up to that and I know it is not a popular approach. However, I am far from the worst on the site and I am definitely not mean. rfoiii, here is the best advice you'll receive with regards to conversations here: don't take this board seriously. You'll just burn yourself out trying to win an argument, and for what? If you want to make a point, state your facts and indicate any flaws in the other parties reasoning (preferably with humor). They usually give up after that. Is u true? It know u is!

  10. Received the slab safe and sound. Thanks.
  11. Just got a package from Comics America. All of the books were stacked together with the flaps taped together. Flaps are all torn now. Ouch! You would think they would know better. I really can't complain, the books they sent are flawless. Comics America? I'm surprised... I placed my first order from them late last year. They jerked me around for three weeks, had fulfillment problems, asked if I wanted to cancel my order several times, didn't reply to emails... so I finally did cancel it. Between that and their free shipping method (which really does sound like a bait and switch scheme), I was also worried about what condition the books would be in. Too bad that they were so difficult to work with. Did you ever have any of these problems, or was it just a rare occurrence? Perhaps some other people that have bought from them can comment as well...?
  12. An Onslaught 22K gold cover! That was the one book (well, technically two) I hoarded throughout the years before I came back to the hobby.
  13. I emailed CGC yesterday with my questions after doing some more research and finding that people have done this. We had a back and forth discussion, much to my dismay and growing frustration with their policy. It's pretty much as you said; the artist cannot verify the sig. I argued several points without effect. Their stance is that any books with signatures not witnessed through their service are possible forgeries. In this market, possible = probable = worse than worthless (with some exceptions). I don't want to re-hash the entire discussion, but if anyone is interested in seeing the email messages, just let me know and I'll post it. Oh, and I also inquired about books that were issued in very limited runs with sigs before going on sale. Same answer. Regarding your question about the grade going up, I asked because I read that CGC sometimes lowers the grade for a blue label book with a signature instead of putting it into a green label (which they confirmed in the emails). So naturally, if it were to be verified and upgraded to a yellow label, then that deduction should be negated (in a perfect world).
  14. A few questions regarding signatures... I have a signed (cover) raw copy of a book. If I were to take it to a comicon to get signed by the same person, and witnessed by CGC, would that work? They wouldn't sign it again, of course, just verify that it is their signature. Logically, I don't see how there could be a problem with this, but you never know. Has anyone ever done this? Furthermore, if that book was a graded 9.4 blue label, would it go up a few grades as a SS if presented with the same situation as above? Thanks.
  15. Quick question... submitting a signed book that comes with a COA results in a green label, correct? Thanks.
  16. I bought two raw books from Mike recently. He answered all of my questions and shipped the books well packaged. Accurately graded as well. Thanks again.
