  1. That's Win's old book? I read that book at the 2005 Chicago Forum Dinner. Actually, NewForce picked up that copy. Ciorac's got my other restored 'Tec 1 which I bought from Geppi a while back, and it's actually a bit nicer than the one you read at the dinner (better page quality), although they're both clearly very nice (6.0 or better). I finally got a solid unrestored copy (a long-time goal of mine), so I decided to move the others. As for this thread, my primary contribution would be early King Comics (I've got #1-#12, minus #7). Without posting all of them again, here's #1 and one of my favorite covers, #4
  2. I completely understand your position CentaurMan, but the Action 1 in this contest has issues that far exceed 2 binder ring holes which are most likely thru the entire book. The other issue is the IMO false grading by CGC of Unrestored vs. Restored. This book has glue AND color touch ( should be purple label...I don't care what anyone says on this issue...to the day I die, this will be a restored book) So you really have the comparison of a low grade restored improperly labeled Action 1 to a high grade Unrestored Cap 1 I'll put it another way: There's no possible Hulk #181 that I would choose instead of a Captain America #1. In the same vein, there's no possible Captain America #1 I would choose over an Action #1. The books are incomparable. It's insulting to the Action #1 to even try and equate them, condition and restoration notwithstanding.
  3. It's unfathomable to be that people are saying this is a tough choice. Cap #1 is a downright EASY book. Yeah, yeah, high grade, whatever. No way I'm taking anything short of a 9.6 Church Cap #1 over any complete non-brittle Action #1. In fact, any of you guys who claim you'd prefer the Cap #1 had better find an Action #1 for me, because I'm gonna move Heaven and Earth to find you a nice Cap #1.
  4. I really am happy for you Rick. When I read mine the other day, a couple of the stories ended in cliffhangers! Drats! That means I have to locate the nearly impossible to find #2 to read the next chapters!!! You guys have cleaned me out of extra Tec 1's! And I've only got one of these: Let me know what cliffhangers you need resolved and I'll get right on it! Seriously, I'm glad those #1's went to good homes. I'm telling you, no GA key gives the same bang-for-the-buck when showing it off to other comic guys.
  5. I'm completely mystified by this. They were sent the same day from the same post office. I'm telling you Rick, you're gonna swoon. it gets there SOON!
  6. Ciorac What is it you do for a living? rob banks? Sweet book you gotta love those super major keys at restored prices. It didn't even cost him any cash to get it.
  7. I suppose you have already read it. Is it restored? I will read it tonight. Looking forward to it. Yes it is restored, 7.0 with off-white pages. The work was good though, and the color touch was very well done. I've seen it look bad on red books before. I am very pleased. Yes, Detective #1's red is notorious for being hard to match. That one looks very nice. Congrats!! My favorite GA key.
  8. Hey, that's a "N.D." book. I'll take that one.
  9. Nice! I'm also a Captain Marvel fan. Here's an older picture of mine. I've since sold (or traded) a number of these books, including the Whiz #1, and I've cracked all the slabs.
  10. What I have learned is that "never" is a long time. And to "never" say "never". Things happen. I have enjoyed my ride. I appreciate the feedback on some of these old books. We GA collectors have to stick together. I will post the Larson Sciences by the week-end. Jon You sound as though you are considering it? You can have whatever I don't want, ciorac. Which will end up being my current collection once I get Jon's!
  11. Yeah, it's got really strong interior work, both stories and art. Plus I love the 1930's pop culture references which always make me go straight to Google to learn more.
  12. I've always considered it kind of a Centaur, actually, as pretty much all the interior artists are the same. Here's mine, which lacks the "sacentaur's camera sheen" (not that sacentaur's camera could help it much):
  13. Here's #16, a cover with a bit more action that Flessel usually drew:
  14. You don't. You're totally screwed. A complete goner. Welcome to the club. Nice books!!!
  15. Oh yeah, all the time. I make sure to scan the books first, though, because they tend to present better pre-swim. If you're ever in Chicago let me know and I'll have you over for a dip.
  16. I got it from Metro recently, with big thanks to Stephen for knowing what I was looking for and helping me find it. Those guys deserve more credit than I usually give them. It's the Cosmic Aeroplane copy (as correctly guessed above by RHG). Full of interior marks pointing out which panels were to be drawn.
  17. Beautiful, Surfer!!! Welcome to the Centaur club!! And I can't believe it's been 3 days since a post in this thread! I'll rectify that with these:
  18. A nifty early Everett cover. Does the look of the artwork inside the near cockpit look grey tone to you, Ryan? Guess the pedigree, win a no-prize.
  19. Here's #15, with a neat mirror motif. I like the nattily attired thief.
  20. How would they restore the interior art pages? They wouldn't have to because it would be slabbed.
  21. Yeah, #18 rocks. Here's my copy. I'm still missing 11 of the first 26 issues. I don't have #s 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 20, 25, and 26. However, in many cases this is due to the desire to get value with the purchase (an added challenge with pre-Batman Detectives). I know where a number of copies are that I'm missing but I'm not sold on the price. Also, I don't like the covers to #5, #10, and #20, so I'd really need to get those cheap if I get them at all. (I also don't care for #21, which I have, but it was a great deal).
  22. Yup. Anyone know who marvelmys9 is? He got the Little Giant #1 despite my hellacious snipe. I'd like to trade him some very, very cool stuff for that book.
  23. Another of the rare Centaur digests: All black & white inside, mostly traditional comic stories with a few illustrated text features. Fun book.
  24. And here's my #8, which a lot of people just love. Personally I like a number of the other covers a lot more (like the #7 above), but it's still a nice cover.
