  1. Wow, Famous Funnies 1-50, that's a hell of a goal. I thought my King Comics 1-12 was tough. Here's Feature Funnies #1, not super tough but quite early:
  2. Yeah, I love this series. People see #1 and #5 quite a bit, but the middle three issues are much scarcer. Here's #3:
  3. Here's the rarely-seen Detective Picture Stories #2:
  4. Bumping this thread (one of my favorites) with my Adventure #46. I think this is one of the tougher Sandman covers to find, but I could be wrong.
  5. Man that's a nice book. Those blues are so intense it doesn't even look like a comic.
  6. I'll take the GL. $6000 seems like a lot for either book, though. On the margin, I went for scarcity. If I ever decide to get an Archie #1, I'm going to pay up for one in better condition rather than pay $6K for that one.
  7. Generally speaking, the stories in early Fox books are pretty disappointing given the extremely high quality of the front covers. Pretty standard early GA superhero fare. Interesting for students of the genre, not so much for people looking for truly good reads. More than compensated for by the outstanding covers, though.
  8. Nice pick up! I'm telling you, these Centaurs can be addictive. And they're not that expensive, especially considering their scarcity and importance. I generally like the late Centaur covers with the sidebar, despite the picture being smaller. Here are some other examples:
  9. Holy smokes! It's taken me years to assemble my pre-Batman 'Tecs (and I'm not done yet), but you got halfway there in one shot!! Very nice!
  10. Generally speaking, whenever a DC has been matched up against a Timely of similar value, the DC has won. I'm beginning to wonder if our group is representative of the GA collector population. If so, then Timely's are relatively overvalued in the market today. I'll go with the Action here.
  11. I can tell you first hand that the #59 shows much much better than 8.5. Not atypical for Church copies. The book is gorgeous. Win, whenever we can get together for a cocktail in the near future, I'll show it to you. Congrats! I'm happy to hear that book's a good home, and you got a hell of a deal on it too. And yes, we definitely have to get some drinks. Drinks rule.
  12. So $9,200 for the Timely and only $6900 for the Action is explicable how? Did people get turned off by the 8.5 grade?
  13. That's a 4-to-1 vote in favor of the Action. Now the crazy part: The Action sold for $6900, while the Amazing sold for $9200 just a few months later.
  14. Ok, that was kind of a dud match-up. Sorry about that. I think this one could be better. A Church DC (high-demand Action war cover, but in less-than-perfect condition) vs. a Church Timely (awesome condition, but not quite as high-demand a book). Which would you choose?
  15. Ok, here are two Edgar Church Action Comics, sold three months apart for about the same price ($10,350 vs. $10,638). Which would you choose? Or have I finally picked a pair of books so similar that people will truly be ambivalent as to their choice?
  16. That's a tough book. My copy (pictured below) is the only one I've seen before that auction (which I didn't bid on, as even though my copy obviously has those binder holes, it's in solid shape).
  17. The Guide's got to be wrong then, if the books sold for the same price in the same auction from the same pedigree in the same condition? Or does the minor glue make so much of a difference that the huge disparity in Guide prices is explainable?
  18. Ok, that went pretty well, so I'll do one more Larson comparison. Both these books sold in the same auction (Nov. 2003) for about the same price ($9430 vs $9200). Which would you choose?
  19. It's restored, obviously, and don't feel too badly for ciorac, as it's not like he let me have it for free. He got a very cool book out of the deal.
  20. Don't be sad, it's in a good home. Here, I'll let you look at it whenever you want!
  21. Yeah, but it's all schmutzy down the spine. I'm torn on this one.
  22. Ok, I'm going to play for the first time. Here's my pairing: Two Larson Timelys, sold within 3 months of each other in 2002, the first for $5290, the second for $5060. Which would you choose?
  23. who me, I've met Andy at WW Chicago, don't know if he remembers or not, he's a nice guy, and I didn't mean to start anything, I genuinely apologize. Yeah, knowing the two of you, a dude/october flame war is pretty much the most random thing I can imagine. Oh yeah, Superman #1 for me.
