  1. In this topic, https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/470841-does-grading-depend-on-what-mood-a-grader-is-in/#comments I found an Adventure Comics 332 CGC graded at 9.2 with 7 spine ticks and an iffy corner as well. The 9.2 GPA of that issue is north of 1k dollars. Dunno what the lower GPAs are worth (and therefore the size of the 'gift' the seller received from CGC as a result of that grade instead of a lower one) but with that many faults how on Earth that issue got a 9.2 is beyond me.
  2. We all have differing opinions regarding what flaws are more acceptable than others, and of their severity, so bearing that in mind, why are graders notes limited purely to CGC and the submitter of any given comic ? Surely from a buying pov, people would (imo) be more inclined to buy a comic if they knew exactly what flaws it had, or otoh less inclined to 'waste' their money on a comic that has specific issues that they wouldn't have otherwise bought it if they had known them. I have never seen 1 seller, ever, list the graders notes in a sale. Surely from the view of the transparency of the industry this needs to change.
  3. The line going down the front and back is where my scanner seems to have missed a beat. Very small tear above the A in Smallville, plus non color breaking stress lines (they aren't actually visible unless the scan is really blown up).
  4. CGC officially answered a couple of days ago regarding price stamps on UK books. A UK stamp doesn't affect grade. They consider it a natural part of the distribution process.
  5. This is the 2nd of 5 freebies I got from Mile High. Supergirl 2 Always loved this cover because I think she looks awesome here. My fav Supergirl cover. Dunno why they sent this one, as unlike the Aquaman 29, this one looks to be around vfn+ / nm- condition. (I'm sure the slight spine roll and ding on the b/c will press out)
  6. When I used to order back issues from Mile High Comics in the late 80s early 90s, they used to put a freebie or two in with the order as well. One of them was this, Aquaman 29. Not a bad freebie since this is now worth way more than any single comic I ever ordered from them. It came as is, with a kind of browning on the back cover (foxing?). I'd rate it maybe 5.0 / 6.0 what do you think ?
  7. The OCBPG only lists prices for 9.2s (and even then can be way off, as I'm aware that the last 2 sales of an Adventure Comics 332 (OCBPG 9.2 value $140) went for over 1k each As a buyer or a seller, how does someone estimate the worth of a comic that is graded 9.4, 9.6, 9.8 etc when there isn't a 'guide price'. Is it just a case of "think of a figure" ?
  8. I recently came across this, primarily because I have one of these in great condition myself, if I can find it lol, but looking at the census is literally gobsmacking, as there is only 1 known example of this particular comic in the world that has a grade of 9.2 or above. (the black cover makes this incredibly, almost non existently scarce imo) Anyone know of any other examples of SA comics having just one example of 9.2 or above left ? https://comics.gocollect.com/guide/view/122870
  9. If there was an Action Comics 1 9.8 with a name stamp on it I'm pretty sure no one would give a damn.
  10. I think the consensus seems to be that stamps don't affect the grade at all. I've seen a CGC slabbed 9.4 Adventure Comics 247 with a stamp on it.
  11. Yeah, I know for 100% fact that in England the early 90s is when comic conventions really took off. I think the incredibly popular Batman film got a huge amount of folk into collecting many titles.
  12. Issues of very popular comics in their day, and the LSH was incredibly popular in the 60s, also means that the vast majority of copies were read to death, and generally unless it's a key, aren't worth getting slabbed.
  13. Hadn't seen the thread as I'm a relative newbie on the board. Found it now though, thankyou. I have a large, very high grade SA collection of LSH issues that I'll be getting slabbed and then sold in the very near future, some of which could possibly be the single best copies on the census. If I can get those to actual fans of the series rather than people who want to buy then resell, it would ofc be awesome.
  14. Hi All Just a heads up if anyone is interested. I was at one point one of the biggest collectors of very high grade silver age LSH comics in the UK. For 30 years a large amount of raw, incredibly high grade issues have been sitting bagged and boarded in a box, until now. I've sent them all off to the USA to be cleaned/pressed, slabbed and sold (to help a very dear friend). Some of them, will quite possibly come back as being the single best on the census. According to the census, any high grade silver age comic that featured the LSH is incredibly scarce, but offhand (to list just a few of them), and all just imo of course since they haven't been graded yet Superboy 89 I actually have 2 of these, photos of the f/cs below. (Both photographed in their bags as I told the friend who I sent all the comics to, not to take any out of their bags) Superboy 93 there are no known copies higher than a 9.4, imo mine is even higher Superboy 127, imo I have a 9.4 or better Action Comics 285, imo at least an 8.5 as is, after a c&p it might get 9.0 Action Comics 287, imo a 9.2 or better Action Comics 290, there are no known copies higher than 9.4, imo mine is even higher Adventure Comics 282, imo I have a 9.0 Adventure Comics 304, imo I have at least a 9.4, only 1 known copy is higher Adventure Comics 309, imo I have at least a 9.4, only 3 known copies are higher Adventure Comics 332, imo I have at least a 9.4, only 1 known copy is higher like I said, I have far too many to list, but if anyone is interested in purchasing any (though I haven't got a clue re prices) I will list each one here as it gets slabbed. Currently, both of the 89s, a 247 (around a 4.0), the Action 285 and the Adventure 304 have all been sent out for their c&p and a slab)
  15. As a once collector of Legion of Superheroes related comics I have noticed that especially in the Silver Age, a number of DC titles and many issues of them, have such a CGC census scarcity in high grade that the number of copies of such can literally be counted on just 2 hands. Are high grade (9.2 and above copies) REALLY so scarce ? Or is it more a question of many collectors just not bothering to get their comics graded and slabbed ? The popular DC comics of the 60s were literally printed in their thousands, so somehow the hi grade scarcity of many issues seems a little off.
  16. I've had another chance to have a look at your pix, especially the back cover. On the front cover, with all the colour, it's not really possible to see much that is actually wrong with the comic, and therefore my initial assessment that a 6.5 was too low. However, examination of the back cover pic, unless I'm mistaken, shows quite a number of dents in the comic, especially along the spine and in the middle, hence the 6.5 grade. Therefore, as you have thought now yourself too, I too would also advise you to leave it as it is.
  17. Dunno if you've ever seen any, but in the 60s comics shipped to the UK got an ugly large black price stamp. I have one on an Action Comics 290 that without the stamp would easily get a 9.4. Given that according to census there are no known copies higher mine may be the highest copy out there. But it depends on how CGC will view that price stamp. Anyone got any experience regarding how much or if it all those 60s UK stamps affect a grade ? (Can't post a scan of the comic as it's currently in the USA awaiting an eventual c&p and submission but here's a pic of a comic with such a stamp)
  18. That looks a lot better than a 6.5 imo in comparison to a lot of slabs and grades I've seen.
  19. I would have said around a 5.0 from the original pix due to the heavy spine wear, creases and large spine roll, a 6.0 shows just what a c&p can do. It's the c&p that raised it imo. Shows that for the relatively very small expense that it is really worth doing. Anyone know why the c&p didn't eliminate all of the spine roll though as even afterwards I can see that it is still there but just not as bad.
  20. I have a raw one of these that would probably get a 9.4 after a press. The poster's copy, like mine, has great gloss retention. Same with my 328, also incredible gloss retention, which makes me wonder if some comics were printed with very bright inks whereas other's weren't.
