bcc, the 3 comics he cracked open and regraded all looked undergraded by cgc.
DJBrady only shows the front covers on his auctions so I wonder if there's damage on the back covers. Do you remember?
I guess part of his methodology is to look over hundreds of slabs with an eye for good "front cover" appeal. To me, looking at his pics, the JIM 83 & the DD 1 look like they could actually pass for the grades he gave them (which makes me think they must have flawed back covers), the Hulk 1 he's selling doesn't come close to a 7.0, but it looks like it could be a 5.0 or 5.5 judging from the front cover.
If you have pics of the 3 comics in their CGC slabs I would love to see them, especially the back covers.
BTW.... I am SO grateful for these boards educating me about crooks like Djbrady.
I do not have ready access to scans of the books in CGC holders although I know there are some not so great pictures of them. I was sharing my booth with a friend since Wizards booth costs have gotten ridiculous (that's another story). The books were his. I will let him decide if he wants to get involved in the conversation here; not my call.
I handled the books several times and was present for the entire transaction and can state unequivocally that they are the exact same books. You can take my word for it or not.
The books looked to be graded tight but not out of whack considering CGC is in their "tight" stage right now; much like my ex-wife was in the mid 90's.
You should be able to tell the Hulk 1 that is graded at a 7.0 is ridiculously and unscrupulously overgraded. I wouldn't argue with a 4.5 but anything above that is
I will add that when I started this thread I did not know he was a "grader" for PGX, just that he was associated with them on a "friendly" level.
My feelings have now gone from "just not wanting to have anything to do with PGX books" to contempt.
