  1. Have a bunch of SA goodies up now in the mixed/misc forum including Amazing Spider-Man #6 CGC 5.0 SS - 1st Lizard! Avengers #54 - 1st Ultron in cameo Journey Into Fear #1 - Rare Superior horror comic. Plus lots of other stuff from different ages! Click here to check em out
  2. A few long boxes at home in storage that I don't care for other than the complete first 4 volumes of Iron Man and most of the ToS series which i'll keep until I throw out / sell the rest of the drek. Got rid of pretty much everything else and just keep a small collection of CGC issues at my place for display and maybe 50 random issues for story/art reference, reading the rest digitally (except for Prophet and the new Moon Knight series).
  3. You can upgrade my membership! I'm listed as having a RAW 1st print 'Sauce Dog (page 93) ', but it has been pressed & graded as a 5.0 Universal! Pressed and cleaned by the awesome Mike at www.herorestoration.net. Excellent job. I originally had the idea of getting all the colour breaks touched up (since they were all in the black) which would have put it in the 8.0-9.0 restored range but felt it much wiser to leave it at a universal (I personally have no problems with owning restoration, but if the resale market changes to a more positive outlook on it then this would make an excellent candidate for CT in the future)
  4. Just finished up: - The Machine by James Smythe ( a quasi-frankenstein inspired story about rebuilding a man through memory adjustments ) - Lockstep by Karl Schoroeder ( New young-adults sci-fi that I recommend. Some very interesting concepts involving space travel and colonization of distant planets ) Current reading: - Why We Believe in God(s) - A Concise Guide to the Science of Faith by J. Anderson Thomson Jr. MD - Meditations (Dover Thrift Editions) by Marcus Aurelius - The Cool War by Frederick Pohl - Behind the Mask of the Horror Actor by Doug Bradley Once i'm done a few of those then i'll start on reading the Books of Blood by Clive Barker. I've only read a few of the stories out of that collection (such as The Forbidden) and have been on a giant kick recently revisiting all his books which I read growing up (Also just finished The Thief of Always - amazing!).
  5. Just got my recent submission back from CGC, a single modern issue which I sent off to them back in January and only just got it back 3 days ago. So yeah, feel it was kinda slooooooowww???
  6. Just saw it and I absolutely loved what they did with Zola. Perfect re-imagining to the screen that retains the essence of the character and visual style! Pretty much one of the best Marvel movies to date. Though I kinda felt that Hydra 'freaked' out at the end for such a long term plan. If a known fugitive (cap) starts saying your boss is evil and not to do your job (which was capture said fugitive) there might be a little more hesitation in everyone. Hell the hydra employees could just have said "nope not true..why believe him when he is a criminal at this point" rather then immediately pull out all the guns and run around in a panic.
  7. $20 for a 7.5? Is that a key issue? I sold my late 70s/early 80s runs of X-Men raw for about a few bucks apiece about 10 years ago, and everything later than 77 or 78 had gone straight from the newsstand into a polybag, so they were all 9.4-9.8 unpressed. Well I guess it is now a key considering the movie coming out, but back when I bought it I guess it was only a 'real cool' issue Most of the cost associated with it was the fact it was already CGC graded (so $20 for it seemed like steal)
  8. This. +1 +1 from me. This is the root of the issue. This issue flopped back and forth between blue and purple so much that any claim to having set standards in detection is absolutely unbelievable. How can one trust any universal grade that isn't a modern book now?
  9. If you edited out the few shots of the turtles in it this would have seemed like a a trailer for any one of the Transformers films.
  10. Thanks - That is what I was assuming. All changes are not supposed to be undetected, as I will not sell a comic without anything less than full disclosure - same when I grade it CGC would be given a list of all work done. I figured the qualified label already took it into account, but was hoping it might warrent a .5 grade bump. At least the issue will be much more collectible now being complete.
  11. Quick question, I have an old Marvel Mystery Comics #10 which was graded at 3.5 Qualified (Staples Replaced, Incomplete - Missing Centrefold). I was recently able to get another donor copy of this book with the centrefold. If I married the donor centrefold to my book could I expect a slight grade bump or will it simply come back again as 3.5 Qualified (Staples Replaced, Married Centrefold)? I assumed at least SOME points were taken off due to the incomplete nature of my book but was not 100% sure if the qualified label covered that defect fully.
  12. You've posted so many times in this topic, people might begin to think you know what you're talking about. Let's pretend you do... So please show me where I can find this bloated bubble.
  13. Also, one can rag on the copper age as much as they like but it wasn't any less silly than the golden / silver age, in fact I think it had much better stories overall. Heck, i'll take the copper age over anything from modern 90's most of the time. Regardless, it feels there are many more AF #15s available on the market then the limited TMNT first prints, so it isn't any wonder why people are interested in it (that and I don't like Spider-Man at all so no nostalgia for me - i prefer his villains)
  14. So many TMNT trades of late. I did a trade that involved my X-Men #1 for a raw low grade TMNT. It isn't about price, as I traded up much more than the TMNT was worth so he got a great deal. It is about finding the right grail to fit the collection, and if someone else gets a grail out of it as well then everyone wins. I think TMNT fans are simply realizing that with more movies coming out there isn't any slowing down, and looking at the prices of other super hero properties (such as Spider-Man) they don't want to find themselves priced out of obtaining a key grail in the future.
  15. Spot on. The main difference is the paper. The newsprint, with smudged/transfered ink really drives home the indy nature of the book and the way it was created/printed - almost a personal connection to the creators since it was produced by them in limited numbers. I never read ANY of the original TMNT comics as a kid and don't have a nostalgia associated with the printing of the comics, only the characters, so I never bought it for this tactile difference but was very pleased with the experience. I have the Free Comic Book Day version but something about it being on glossy pages didn't feel right. Story is great regardless how you read it but the experience of the older prints is something else (nothing superior, but different, don't mistake me for a stuffy old guy talking about vinyl record superiority etc...).
  16. Ah good call on the sub basically acting as authentication in this case, that part slipped my mind. I've checked it against the tell-tale signs of being a fake, but even I cannot be 100% sure. I think i'll track down a 3rd print for reading
  17. Finally! In the club of my dreams! Just read it last night and it was amazing (Looks to be a 4.0 or 4.5, but will have it cleaned up and pressed. Not submitting it since I plan to read it again in the future)
  18. What comic could be possibly be worth trading an X-Men #1 for? I think he was looking for tnmt 1 and he found it. But I could be mistaken Righto
  19. Alas I have to be removed from the club. My awesome 1.0 (pg 123) has been traded to another board member for one of my lifelong grails. woot!
  20. While I have never tried the cat-little approach which might end up cheaper, you can easily buy bags of book deodorizer from craft shops which will help. Just leave your books in a sealed tub with some of the granules and it will absorb odours as well as excess moisture.
  21. Yay, I get to be part of another club. Just picked this one up off another board member (menator) and can't wait till it arrives.
  22. Just wanted to post this here cause this is my GRAIL club - I shall have membership one day!!! For anyone that has a copy for sale, let me know as I will trade a good chunk of other keys for it as well as line your pockets with cash! Link below goes to my WTB post with a list of issues I can trade towards it. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=60&Number=6909310&Searchpage=1&Main=306934&Words=&topic=0&Search=true
  23. Hi, Just quick question but do you have an email we can direct updates for label information? I have an issue I wish to submit (Journey into Fear #1, superior comics, 1951) but all the CGC labels I see do not have artist information though it is known that artist Matt Baker did the interiors for 2 of the stories within (based on HA.com auctions this is known, and from http://www.comics.org/issue/64882/) He was a big name for that era and issues are often collected for his art alone so it would be a good idea to apply credit where credit is due. Thanks
  24. Was looking around for some EC reprints to have as readers, and then came across this lot which I bought (note: Much cheaper then what the price tags show, $50 total for the three). Love me that WEIRD SCIENCE #15 cover which was the main reason for the purchase - but getting something like Journey info Fear #1 is a very sweet bonus! Does anyone have any information on the rarity of this JoF canadian edition? Edit: AH! Found out there isn't technically a 'canadian edition' for this comic, rather it was PRINTED in Canada but for the US market. So any Canadian/US release of this issue would be the exact same comic.
