Post your Garage Sale/Flea Market/Antique Mall Finds Here
manetteska replied to Shark's topic in Comics General
the ones I aforementioned I learned, probably too late, that the card from Simpsons #4, by itself, at times sells for more than the comic with the card. Different category, I suppose. -

Hero Restoration, Anyone know the latest?
manetteska replied to Cantina201's topic in Comics General
I think Susan Ciccone was doing leaf-casting on comics before Kenny, but who knows? Dry grafting is something else entirely. And I misread Mike's post. It didn't go from Purple to Blue, it stayed Purple, but he was able to get trimming removed from the label. So if a book was Purple for trimming and nothing else, conceivably it could be turned into a book that CGC would grade Blue. Seems like a game-changer. But maybe others do it as well? Is this like the early days of pressing when people were doing it and not talking about it? Has this ever been discussed over in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues? I talked to Mike about the process and was about to send him a book for similar treatment, but then Hero imploded and he went dark. So glad I didn't send him that book. Expand If a book was purple for trimming and nothing else and it had leaf casting done to add back what the trimming took off, then I would think it would still state "pieces added" on the label, and therefore still get a purple label. I have no idea the notes on the original Batman #1, the the worked-on slab has these notes. The bold may indicate trimming is no longer an issue but now there are pieces added; unsure as I don't have original notes and outside of trimming there is a lot going on with this book. Label Text Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, reinforced, cleaned, interior lightened. rader Notes cleaned color touch on cover color touch on interior interior lightened interior reinforced pieces added cover A-5 pieces added interior A-3 small stain right center of front cover soiling cover -

I received a last-minute notification I was off the wait list and had a table if I wanted one (actually, two tables as it turns out). I'm not a "regular" dealer by any stretch, and mainly sell on eBay, so none of my stock was priced but, as Hector said, this is the "big" local con in this area and I didn't want to pass it up. Thankfully, 95%+ of buyers understood they had to ask for prices, but I (tried) to make up for my unpreparedness by discounting prices a good amount. I almost always go to this con as a buyer, arriving early and leaving around noon and there was always a line waiting to pay and get in. This year 10am (full opening) rolled around and the hall was empty. Hector was saying other local cons had a low turnout but I thought this one would be different -- it was not. I can't speak to any market or buyer changes as I setup so infrequently, but even with the lower-than-expected attendance, I sold a lot in volume and price-wise. My stock for this show was not Marvel/DC/Bronze/Copper/Modern -- it was almost exclusively weird indie stuff and Star Wars. -

How has this show been in the past as a vendor? I have only setup there 3 or so times over the years and it was always a good show for selling for the area. However, I haven't done it in a while and, overall, I'm hearing sales are slowing down at the other local shows. Specifically at this show, one of the main dealers would make it his mission to hit most of the other dealers before the doors opened and make large piles of books to buy. I don't think he has done that in a while, or even shown up at this show (that spending spree alone would probably make it a good day for the majority of sellers). @jsilverjanet has been setting up at this show consistently for years; he will have more comprehensive info. -

I don't know, you think it's rough? It's got nice color, spine may look closer to a 6.0 than 7.0. Nice corners. I'd say perfect wrap, and it's very clean. Back cover is as white as a white sail on a dusky sea.......and that's really white. White pages also. It's the R H stamp on the yellow rocket I find really distracting. Hard to tell if that affected the price as there aren't many recent sales in this grade range to compare it to. There are 7 -7.0's and 5 7.5's out there. I'm waiting for a 5.0 to 6.0 to come around before I go broke buying other stuff. Let's compare these two (albeit these are low-res images and just the front cover); both are mainly black covers from the same era. -

Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay

Thank you, CGC Boards (and @littledoom ) for telling me about this. Read this thread five days ago and found a copy in a large stack last night. -
I make a lot of offers on ebay. A couple of times now they have requested payment information before I can make an offer. If it is accepted, I am billed immediately. This doesn't bother me, but is this happening to anyone else? I've been on ebay for over two decades so it isn't because I'm new or ever backed out of a deal. Yes; when I put in an offer I now have to put in a payment method. However, it's not happening to everyone, as I have had people accept offers I send them and then take 12+ hours until I'm notified they have paid. Unsure how eBay is rolling it out -- by area, feedback score, etc.

eBay either needs to require all users to have a form of payment ready to go -- and authorized to go -- or they need to look into why so many of their users get hit with "family emergencies" right when it's time to pay for an auction.
