  1. Define “not much”; crappy condition copies are selling for $60 or so. Ahem. The linked 6th print -- while initially looking great, is beat up on the back cover -- sold for $225. So.. just imagine what a true high grade copy could/would bring.
  2. Bob and I live a town apart and I would always talk with him about the latest deals we found at our local stores or smaller shows. How he would specifically venture in on the days the manager bought collections so he could get an early look. Each year our store would have a 50% off sale and we were usually the first two in the door, digging through boxes, chatting with each other, showing off what we found, and even trading once the dust settled. I did not know him long (compared to others here), or outside of comics, but, to me, he was a rare "genuinely nice" person who was very passionate about the hobby. He will be missed; RIP.
  3. Maybe lay off the lifting a bit, it's impacting your comprehension and giving you a bit of a 'tude.
  4. Haha. You bought a modern comic in 1.0 condition for $40.
  5. Did that Mask 1 2.5 on eBay sell? And at what price?
  6. Presser/cleaned says tape was removed prior to him doing his work. Books were shipped from presser/cleaner back to Big D.
  7. I’m a very logical person also and the wording indicated insinuation. As opposed to simply asking “why did he use you”. Anyway no hard feelings, it’s a very charged up topic. I’m just glad I took pictures! Have a great night OK, then, I'll ask simply: Why did he use you? For books of this nature I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) there was some amount of communication between the two parties.
  8. Yes, I agree. I believe I saw @427Impaler post some of these results on a FB group I am part of before he created a topic here. His results did look very intriguing. However, he made it known from the start this was all conservation/restoration work, and is outside of /separate from the work he did for D---, so I don't know why it continues to be brought up.
  9. I suggest you be careful here, sounds like you are insinuating I do something that would be considered unethical. I do work for a few boardies and the reason people use me is good results. I have several customers on the East coast that ship to me regularly. My main focus is conservation and extending the life of comics. The only time I ever use a solvent is during tape removal and even then the final adhesive removal is done with a staedler. Careful how? I am saying if I had an alleged $60k+ book (or 2) I would not send them to be pressed/cleaned by: a). A person/entity I have never used before. b). A person/entity who's main focus is on conservation if I believe the comics I am sending are un-restored/conserved and I wish to keep them that way. c). A person/entity across the the US border, necessitating a lot of fees, paperwork, and potentially extra hands touching my expensive books. So, in summary, for me, a logical person, those are a lot of good reasons to have this work done elsewhere, which begs the question: Why did he use you? I don't think there is anything "ethical" in that question. On top of that, D--- likes to tout his own services, so why not do it in-house?
  10. Not only did they go to Canada, they went all the way to the western coast of Canada. Versus using any number of more local (NYC or US) and known entities. So there is most likely some prior relationship here (hence the carrying-the-bag posts earlier), and/or another very specific reason to use these services.
  11. I too am awaiting a reply , but what he stated is that it looked like tape was originally removed so that could be from whoever worked on it before as he stated he only dry cleaned the books. Sure, that's what he stated. As to what actually occurred, we'll never know.
  12. This is the same person who was defending Dyldo in the character label thread. Now I get it. Odd one would ship such expensive books across the border twice.
  13. And one of the AFs you worked on came back as “cover cleaned” notation?
  14. I wish I could. I was blocked for saying it was funny for him to talk about CGC’s ethics (in light of his precious antics) and asking who pressed the AFs.
  15. Maybe I’m misinterpreting, but does that mean he bought his own book? Or someone bought it — fully knowing the grade was wrong — and then returned it?
  16. He has now removed and disabled all comments on his post. I think I’ve seen this move before.
  17. Going just by his own before/after -- and attempting to ignore the drastic change in picture quality -- it looks like the presser mangled this book. Look at that giant crease at the bottom of the "after" picture.
  18. Not to mention the other AF 15 (the one not shown) came back as “cover cleaned”. But Dylan has an affadivt from this presser. Doesn’t say what is on the affidavit, just that he has one.
  19. I saw that same type of staple damage on a golden age book. I believe, in that instance, it was due to some combination of slab + handling (once in the slab).
