  1. If I happen to list books while at a show there are customers who will request pics. Now while the phone will take a nice pic I'm not exactly sure how professional a website full of pics with backdrops of box tops would look. Or my desk. For consistent scans I would go for the scanner, if you are not posting a lot of books then a phone could work for you.
  2. I'm assuming Waterbury, CT since that is where Joe lives
  3. I am not sure if he has. I am posting this to help him out. We haven't talked yet so I'm not sure what steps he has taken yet. The faster this is out there the better and the boards have always been the first place I start with when stuff like this happens.
  4. I am posting this for a long time customer of mine who I'm not sure posts on the CGC boards Just got this email from him. I have not posted the scans he sent me yet but wanted to get this out there. If anybody is offered any of these I can put you in touch with Joe. 5. I had a great Torpedo Con as well as San Diego. Tired after 10 days of hard work but just to let people know John is working at making the show even better.
  6. My website doesn't turn off while I am at a show. If customers are not buying at the convention there are others that are shopping online. I don't agree that good stuff is taken and reprised, good stuff may be bought and sold to customers that I know need the books.
  7. I just finished doing the LA/SD show. I have to say I wish you 1Cool would stop thinking for me. I do a lot of business with other dealers, many of those big dog early bird buyers. I have had relationships with many of them for over 20 years. However there are lot of Wannabe's that never buy booths and frankly are a bit aggressive when it comes to pre-show buying. There are others who are a bit whiny about not getting first shot. When you don't buy a booth and are buying to resell you are cash flow positive while I am cash flow negative because I've paid to be there, you HAVEN"T. As far as you not getting a dealer badge I frankly have to say you really need to learn about building relationships with the dealers you want to compete against. There is no point giving you a badge because I am NOT IN BUSINESS TO MAKE YOU MONEY. If I get you in frankly you would get a lot more deals by bringing something to the table, split some deals with the guy who got you in. The same goes for the guy whose business model is to upgrade books. You get first shot by either spending a lot of money, taking shots on books or partnering with the guy you are upgrading books on. If you think that guy is happy to see you upgrade books on his dime over and over again you are sadly mistaken.
  8. I was looking at this copy - http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch_adv.asp%3Fall%3Dy%26TITLE%3Dtales%2Bof%2Bsuspense%26TITLEOPT%3DALL%26ISSUE%3D57%26Condition%3D%26ConditionTo%3D%26CensusRank%3D%26SearchPageQuality%3D%26Pedigree%3D%26PRICEF%3D%26PRICET%3D%26DESCRIPTION%3D%26DESCRIPTIONOPT%3DALL%26SearchRemarks%3D%26SearchCGC%3D%26EXCLUDE%3D%26CATEGORIES%3D-1%26WCATEGORIES%3D-1%26SORT%3DCATEG%26_where_forsale%3Dy%26_where_auctions%3Dy%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26where_forsale%3Dy&id=1243647 It doesn't state Curator on the label.
  9. Are you sure it is the same copy? Doesn't look like the curator
  10. 1). Do you know your business model? 2). Are you well capitalized, Most people are not and frankly have no clue on how to get access to money. 3). If you don't demonstrate to a girlfriend or wife that your comic business is profitable then it will fail. I've gotten a lot of divorce collections from lack of communication between spouses. If you don't demonstrate a profit and that means sharing $$$$ from those gains it was nice knowing you.
  11. Or you can take the path that you don't know how to grade and send it in the Standard tier (Max $1000) which is much better then sending it in Economy. Less likely to get it bumped if you don't go the grading "low ball" route.
  12. As I've posted before I live in my comic collection. While it would be nice to have my collection back I prefer the roof over my head with heat and AC.
  13. Auction or fixed price listing? If the seller isn't flexible on the price then it may never sell. Buyers seem to forget that the risk falls on the buyer to be able to sell that purchase and make money. Not as easy as one thinks. All it takes is one boat anchor to sink your wins.
  14. I generally find that people who take advantage of others get taken advantage of themselves. Kharma is what goes around comes around. It is one thing to get an atta boy because of hard work, it is another if you did it at the expense of someone else.
  15. The other thing is that a lot of times overgrading is supporting overpriced. If the sticker says $460 and no grade he might think its a lot higher then a 8.0.
  16. I wasn't at the last December show. I generally don't do 1 days shows anymore. Have never done shows on Long Island. Too much work when I can sit home and sell the same amount drinking coffee.
  17. I am out on Long Island. The only NY show I do is Reed NY. I have setup at John Paul Clifton shows in the past but only at the December show.
  18. So a seller could have a couple of books you want that are overpriced and may have great deals on others and you walk past? My prices are snapshots on when I graded/priced them. I do not constantly update pricing on the books nor do I have the time to do it. The auction that ended last week does not result in me updating my pricing online (Current inventory 40K+) . Many seem to feel that comic book pricing should work like the stock market, constant bid and asks 24X7, 7 days a week There are also books that you may feel that I'm overpriced on yet was in a deal I have long gotten my cost out of. For a simple conversation you might find a deal on a book I have no cost into. But as many of you seem to be posting you assume a lot.
  19. Rule #4 is not out of the Dealer handbook that Steve obviously didn't read.
  20. The FF #1 that was married was horribly done. First off the uncut covers were much larger and should have been trimmed. Second the person who married the FF #1 cover to the interior picked a interior that had much darker page quality then the cover. Second, he missed multiple times in lining up the cover to the staple placement. I've seen good Frankenbooks and horrible versions.
  21. There were also some pre hero atlas uncut covers that were being sold but I'm sorry I don't know what show. I have personally seen the JIM #83 uncut cover that Danny sold a customer with a spliced JIM #83 interiror, First 1/2 was a JIM #83, second 1/2 was another story.
  22. Totally agree. Relationships built have resulted in a lot more customers getting great deals then short term "wins". Word spreads very quickly on what type of buyer/seller you are. Reputations take a long time to build and a short time to destroy.
  23. Here is my morning for those contemplating the glamorous lifestyle I live. 70 year old man came to my house on last Thursday morning after I just got home from a red eye with my overstreet page torn out of the price guide. Told me that he had approx 500 books, 40's - 70's. Said that he had bought them. Set up an appointment, went there today. 80% 90's books, nothing from the 40-65, some and I mean a few late 60's stuff, no keys. From chatting with him found out they were given to him by a friend. Fastest 10 minute collection review I've ever done.
  24. More like I'll just walk around the show to think about it and never come back. Another is can you hold it for an hour, just have to check my finances. Last one is "I've been looking for this book for years". Doesn't buy it because the hunt would end. All of these generally result in no shows/no sales.
