Picked this up from Heritage yesterday. First time I've done the live phone bidding. I think I'll be doing that from now on for their sig auctions.

And here we have the lowest grade GA I have ever bought... and I couldn't be happier about it. I've loved this cover since I first "discovered" GA (that should read: When I took my first hit off the GA Crack pipe), but assumed I would never have one. Well now I do. She's a beater (maybe I should put it in that thread ), but I haven't gotten that excited to pull a comic out of the shipping box in a seriously long time.

Question for those of you who may know... is this a book that could be restored? I know that there's a certain level that Matt says is too low to restore, but I don't know if this qualifies.

Finally finished a mini goal on my Wings run... Picked up #4 from Heritage last week to complete the #1-5 run. They're all low to mid grade, but they'll do... for now

Anyone else here hate ciorac? Embarassed to to show a comic worth more than all mine combined? How nice must a collection be for that to happen? It's just not right

Just arrived from Billy Tucci... Namora (not to be confused with Namorita). Water characters are often drawn shooting out of the water, but I love the fact that in this one she's just emerging and most of her body is still under water. I'm thinking this one would look pretty good colored. I've been thinking of getting Mason to do something

this one just proves why you always want big detailed scans if buying off ebay. The far away group shot picture makes this one look pretty good... the close up shows it's true nature... but I still love it

I've decided to start rebuilding my depleted X-Men run. This time around we're doing it CGC only and with specific grades... These fall into the 9.8 and above for anything above 120. It should only take me another 25 years to get them all

My venom is because I am tired of some posters who feel that

 

1). Books should be priced at their interpretation of "Fair".

Without GPA how do you think they would come up with a price? Overstreet? Which would be better... offers based of GPA or Overstreet?

2). The books should be priced at their buy it now price because it's not in their nature to negotiate.

You can't fault a buyer for that. We live in a society that has gotten away from haggling and as such most people only care about the actual sell price. Unfortunately comic books is a world where both sides collide and don't get along well.

3). High grade books should be sold at the minimum amount of profit. My time and my hard work isn't worth paying a profit for.

That's because people are cheap. Nobody's time is worth anything except their own. Yeah I get that in my job too.

The 75% of the collection that I'm never going to sell or schlep to shows for the next five years isn't their problem either.

It's really not. It's yours and a reason for your prices, but it's not their problem. Some people are smart enough to figure out that your overhead drives your prices, but most aren't. It's part of life. It's pointless to let those people get to you.

You have to remember that for some of us this isn't our profession. It's harder for us to know everything that is happening with sales. If not for GPA how would I know prices realized for books I'm after? I can check ebay (the last 30 days anyway), comiclink recent, and heritage. That's about it. Certainly can't use OSPG. I like to be informed about what I buy and GPA at least helps. It let's me know what a book "could" be had for. I may pay more and often have to with my GA stuff, but at least I have some kind of reference. Is your knowledge better than GPA? Of course, but not all of us have the priveledge of your years of knowledge and the time it takes to learn it (your time comes from working in the industry).

Also, I understand your passion here, but the venom in some of your posts makes it hard to want to read the rest of your post and you have good info in there. Maybe a little less?

Say it with me... "OS Guide is almost NEVER correct".

Seriously. X-Men #1 is pretty common (1105 graded copies is pretty darn common)and almost always sells for over guide. Once you get above a certain grade 200% guide is common. OS Guide is good for a list of comics, but poor for any kind of pricing.

As far as GPA... I use it to get an idea of where a comic is selling at and if it's been declining or rising in price. I've set a couple of GPA highs, but also gone well below them.

I have been working on a new goal. Wow Comics #40 - #58 in CGC 8.5 or better. I already had a #50 in 8.5. These are ones that I've picked up recently... All Crowleys. I'm not a fan of the File Copy's, but I picked them up below guide and they'll do for now until I can get other copies...

Waiting for this one to come in... My first Duck!! Thought it looked pretty good for the VG+ it's listed as (stoopid chip at the bottom). Hope it presents as well as it looks in the scans Crippen collection is kicking out some nice cheap books
