  1. I've purchased animation cells and drawings of my kids' favorite shows when they were younger and they've enjoyed having them. They were not serious comic readers, so this is one of the closest things to OA I could think of to get them.

IMO for a show that has thousands of sketches and/or cells, key frame sketches are the ones to get. There are only a few per show and they usually have detailed notes for the animators (e.g. directions for an action sequence, head turns, etc.) and I would assume to have been 'touched' by the creator or director.

Stormwatch Volume 1 #37 features the first Jenny Sparks who was the leader and attitude of the team and Jack Hawksmoor.

Stormwatch Volume 2 #4 features the first appearances of Midnighter and Apollo. The Batman and Superman of The Authority.

Then the issues you named. Issue #1 featured the style that I believe led to what was used in the First Ultimates run. The Ultimates seemed more like the MCU Avengers , especially Captain America imo.

    Stormwatch 37-50

    Stormwatch Vol 2 1-12

    Stormwatch Aliens prestige

The Authority 1-29 were all great stuff. All written by Warren Ellis and Mark Millar. Art was by Hitch, Neary, and Frank Quitely. Sprawling story

hey Authority, you are the Authority on Authority.

You should visit this ancient store : http://www.editions-deesse.com/

Not many US OA pieces BUT if you want to discuss old US OA, you will be in VERY capable hands there.

And you could see a gem or two on the walls (almost garanteed !)

This is the piece to the left

When I visited, the owner was on a trip, so I didn’t get a chance to discuss OA.

several good comic shops in that area

Are you asking one of us to store it for free? I'm sure that could be arranged, considering we already secure our own art. A simple letter signed by both parties and notarizing the transaction (art, value, terms of storage length of term, etc) would ensure your legal right of ownership, if you felt the need to go that far.

Frankly, you could probably also make such an agreement with one of the bigger dealers, though they might ask you to pay.

I haven't considered either scenario, but it could work. Maybe I could offer art for payment hm

I suggest you make an inventory and get insurance for it, separately. Companies will insure collections. Take lots of photo's. too.

I have scans, but I am definitely taking photos and looking into insurance.

    I believe you’re right.

    doh!

Now I find it an interesting coincidence these popped up back to back.

I just looked up the eBay description. Says “blue pencils” and ink. If I didn’t know what I was buying, I would assume I’m buying the one and only original. I think this is what clouded me into thinking they were the same page. And this is why I stay away from modern art.

Maybe the seller thought they could maximize profits by selling on 2 different platforms?

Most artists and dealers are up front about what you are buying, but one definitely has to ask questions about Modern art - there are so many way to produce it now (separate pages; hand pencils, digitally inked; digitally penciled, hand inked, etc.).

The original eBay price was $300 or best offer. No takers (stages 1 through 6). It then gets shipped out to Comic Link (stage 7) which ended last night and hammers for $550 (stages 8 through 10). Someone should’ve taken the better deal when it was on eBay

Unless I'm missing something, looks like the ebay listing is for the inked page and the CLink is of the penciled page.

As an alternative to portfolios, I wanted to share my long-term OA storage solution that uses acid-free boards, custom mats and oversize mylars.  Creates a unique storage/display solution that is (1) protective against bending, dust, pests incl silverfish and even flooding to some extent; (2) cost effective ~$15 per piece compared to framing but has a similar look and feel; (3) really fun to "flip through" art like a short-box of comics and share at collector meet-ups and (4) good for wall displays similar to dealer walls or art gallery that pieces can be easily shuffled or replaced.

I do three sizes for standard (10x15), twice-up/DPS (12x18) and poster size (22x28) art for consistency.  Art can be stored this way safely in off-site climate controlled storage for decades.

For more details, you can PM me or some others storing art this way.

    Those look great!

I would love to do that to some of pieces, but I do not have time before my travels.

    (nice pieces too, BTW).

I just watched some of the CAF U video about storage. Good education on OA care that is fitting for this thread.

Quick question: has anyone used the newer Itoya PolyGlass sheets? They say “archival” compatible but any idea what they are made from?

Good question about the definition of 'archival'. I have a few pieces that are too large or awkward for portfolios and am using Museum Boxes, storing the pages or illustrations loosely, separating (some, but not all) the individual pieces with archival paper. This seems a very safe method to me, but if anyone has insight, LMK!

I'll check out the CAF videos, Thanks!

I'd be very weary of keeping anything valuable in a regular storage facility, (even climate controlled). There are always issues with pests, moisture and theft in these places, a quick google search will scare the out of you!

There’s a GC tread on storage units with photos of destroyed comics from burst pipes, etc. I definitely do not want to keep irreplaceable items in a regular storage.

  11. I'm moving abroad for a year+ and renting out my house & moving everything to a climate controlled storage unit. The one thing that has me vexed is what to do with my OA collection. I'm reluctant to store my portfolios in a storage unit, even in plastic bins, and my banks widest safety deposit box is 10 inches. Due to the nature of my traveling, I will not be able carry any portfolios with me. I am considering storing at a relative's house but that's not ideal in my case. Does anyone have any storage recommendations?

  12. I haven't seen any of the Dueling Dealers episodes and can't speak to the content, but any move towards a more professional product is a good thing for the hobby, right? One thing I like about Felix's podcast is that it's very professional and Felix is very good about keeping his guests on track when needed and letting them wander when appropriate.

  13. I think African American spending on black-centered art and historical pieces is a growing market. Anecdotally, I gave my wife (who is AA) a Frederick Douglas letter (<$1000 from a HA auction) a few years ago and of all the pieces hanging on our walls, this is the one piece her family (some who are very successful and/or getting successful) gravitates towards and asks about the most about; and they are surprised/interested to hear about historical documents auctions.

I started reading comics not a long time ago, and from all the variety I saw online, I chose The Sandman. Pretty interesting comics to read. Also, a few days ago, I came across Hawkeye, and it's also pretty exciting. I have a list of comics I want to read

Gaiman's Sandman is essential reading for the medium. Although it helps knowing the history on some of the secondary characters in the story (e.g. Constantine), you picked a great series to start.
